I'm not saying no one on the oilers is going to try and hit the guy, just that it won't be the same as this series. On top of that Oilers dnt really play that style, they can match Hughes with talent and speed. They dnt need to put a bounty on the guys head.

  • Makar is basically the same size as Hughes, doesn't have this issue, and his team can't compensate with a huge ass blue line like Vancouver's can.. I think it really just boils down to speed and the fact that Makar has WAY more postseason experience than his counterpart. Hughes is uber-talented and I would guess that (just like his Avs counterpart) as he gets more and more playoff exposure, he'll eventually learn how to play and think faster to avoid this kind of punishment. Excellent video!

    • It boils down to the fact that more money is generated for the league if an American team goes deep in the playoffs over a Canadian one, the game is called completely differently for Makar and Hughes.

  • I think a lot of the guys haven't been taking the chances created by the amount of attention and personel drawn by Quinn. Guys like Petterson have looked reticent to take shots and push the tempo when Nashville heavy commits 1-2 people to finishing the checks on Quinn. This wasn't a huge issue in the regular season even against the best teams when they matched up. I think its a lot of nerves with this team's core not having a series under their belt, as well as huge expectations upon them. They look like they're playing not to loose a lot of the time, where they were more loose and free with their attack and play otherwise. It also could be that with Demko in net they felt more comfortable being aggressive and potentially giving up more shots in order to facilitate a quicker offense. With Silovs/DeSmith they don't have as much of a buffer on d as well as more importantly the confidence to allow them to take those risky agressive plays that they did throughout the season and made them the offensive juggernaut they are.

Coaching staff need to consider pairing Huges with Zadorov. Sure, not his strong side but capable. I'd like to see: Hughes Zadorov Myers Hronek Soucy Cole

    @Xyy2387@Xyy238719 күн бұрын

It’s heavy and he’s shown it time and again in the playoffs the past three years. It’s almost guaranteed he shows it again at some point this year. Also, honest question. Does Hughes even do reverse hits? I don’t remember seeing them when I’ve caught the occasional canucks game.

  • Comparing Hughes to Makar is not close. Hughes has more giveaways to takeaways at a -12, he commits more penalties then draws, he doesn't block shots, barely plays on the pk, and he cant single handlely take over a game like Cale can which hes shown on many occasions now. Plus hes smaller, slower, and a worse skater then Makar. And this isn't to hate on Hughes because hes shown massive improvement this season and is a huge part to Canucks success but he isn't in the same class as Cale. Tired of all the fan boying over this player anytime hes mentioned. The eye test says it all too. If Hughes wins the Norris its a pity award because he had 2 more points then Makar on the season but all the other intangibles should matter and Cale beats him in everything else a defensemen is suppose to do.

  • Personally even though Vancouver has the talent to go on a deep run, having hard times in scoring against a wildcard team says otherwise. Not to mention the lack of dictation of play as Nashville purely dictates that. And really they should be down in the series based on the way the play and the Lucky comeback in game 4. This series goes 7 Nsh wins in OT.
