On September 13th, 2012, Valve received another mysterious crate from WETA Workshop. Inside was a full-scale, articulated Portal turret, complete with a motion sensor. Once again, WETA Workshop's gone far, far beyond our expectations to deliver something truly amazing. Thank you, WETA Workshop!

  • Oh, God. Can you imagine putting this in someone's room? Especially someone who has already played Portal? Like, have the room be completely dark, and then they hear "Target. Acquired.", see their eye lighting up, and then hear the sound of gunfire?! I would probably have a heart attack then and there.

  • Wow they got everything right on it. Even down to the rate speed at which the arms extend and retract, and how they soften near the end. Absolutely perfect. I would pay large amounts of money for one of these haha.

    • Last year I made an airsoft automatic sentry gun with a raspberry pi and a 5€ usb webcam. It's scary that technology and real firearm are cheap and disponible for everyone.

  • I remember watching a tour of the Valve headquarters and while they were showing this, the tour guide was like "It came with a built-in voice but we had to turn that off. Because at first it's cool, but after day 17 of constantly hearing 'I see you' when you walk by, it gets old fast" XD

  • This could actually be good house security. If we could configure it so that it only scans unfamiliar faces, it will say "Target Acquired" to alert you that a robber/killer/unfamiliar face is in your house. It would also be nice if it could take a direct picture of the suspect or record a short video.
