Martina Navratilova says Lia Thomas shouldn't swim against women | NewsNation Prime

The day before University of Pennsylvania’s transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, 22, is set to compete in the NCAA women’s swimming and diving championships, tennis star Martina Navratilova said the rules allowing her to compete need to change.
“Its not about excluding transgender women from winning, ever,” Navratilova told NewsNation’s Rich McHugh in an exclusive interview. “But it is about not allowing them to win when they were not anywhere near winning as men. You try to keep it as close as possible to what it would have been had you been born in the female biological body in the first place.”

    • I've said from the beginning... all we need to do is look at all Transgender competitors in the sport. In each case of a Male to Female transition, has any competitor EVER done worse in the ratings after they switched divisions? Has any Female to Male transition (not that there is many ) EVER done better after they switched divisions? If the answer to both those questions is 'No'... then that tells you without a doubt, there is a problem with the current situation. I would wager a year's salary that every single transgender woman, now competing in the women's division, has ROCKETTED up the ratings. Anyone who looks at those statistics and still says there is no difference with the biology, is being willfully delusional.

Just because he’s taken HRT for 2 years doesn’t change the fact that his hands and feet are way larger than those of his female counterparts. HRT may reduce his testosterone but his limbs and extremities dont shrink-they stay the size of a full grown adult males.

I think anyone who identify as a man or as a woman can compete with that social gender as long as their chromosome match it as well so there’s no unfair advantages.

      @sganet_@sganet_2 жыл бұрын
    • Some (not all) women are so funny! when it fits them they claim that men and women are "equal"... (for instance when it comes to promiscuity they claim that both genders are "equal" so they argue that women being promiscuous is the same as men being promiscuous even though women are the ones who get pregnant and the ones more likely to catch a STD) but when it comes to sports or fighting wars they claim that men and women aren't equal...!! Similarly when it comes to aborting kids some of them are liberal but when it comes to proposing marriage they are "traditional".. How about deciding once and for all whether you're liberal or traditional? it's absurd to claim to be liberal or traditional only when it suits you. Also some liberals whine about how male athletes are paid better than female athletes.. ( I have never understood why women's sports have such poor ratings when lots of liberals care so much about how female athletes are "underpaid" if those liberals actually supported women's sports then female athletes would get paid as much as male athletes! ) well... if we got rid of men's and women's sports and both genders competed together then female athletes wouldn't be able to complain anymore about being underpaid because they would obviously get paid as much as their male counterparts if they competed together.

I think if the other athletes feel strongly about this, they should boycott competition. It's sad because I don't think most college athletes are transphobic, but that's how they will be painted.

      @markrichards6863@markrichards68632 жыл бұрын
    • It’s not insane but there may not be enough data to support the current rules or just enough to make themm seem plausible when they may not be. Muscle strength and tone reduces for trans women after treatment putting them well within the range of CIS women (the difference may be greater for people who got puberty blockers… girls are often bigger than boys before puberty), but that might not take into account some other differences than might provide an advantage in some sports. Research is needed to show where and when this may or may not make sense. If it didn’t make sense in some areas (e.g., shooting), then to make a distinction wouldn’t be fair either. Then, there’s another can of worms. I sort of doubt that much research exists if at all about women from birth who have XY chromosomes. We likely have no idea how many women athletes have that genetic difference and there are other biological differences (e.g., cellular and hormonal on the development of sex characteristics) that also effect one’s gender and they’re not as rare as you might think. It’s actually more common than most would think. What doesn’t help the discussion or motivate research is people acting like it’s outlandish that trans women might compete fairly. There many be many ares where they could. We need to make sure universities have the funds and the will to do the research and that reasonable voices are heard in the meantime. People making comments like he’s a she or she’s a he are not helping matters nor are people trying to ban all trans women from women’s spaces. Having trans friends when trans women were barred from attending in the past, I didn’t attend. The nastiness spreads out to all sorts of masculine women-straight and gay-getting untoward comments in bathrooms. Witch hunts work in neither direction.

    • @@IExpectedBSJustNotThisMuchBS Short answer: it's complicated. Greater height and reach are a competitive advantage in many sports. • I'm transgender and I totally agree with Martina. This is the most toxic issue in the trans community. Nobody knows better than a trans woman the effects of testosterone. We spend our lives trying to undo what testosterone has done to us by masculinising our faces & bodies. Many of us have multiple surgeries to "feminize", so that we can "pass" as female better. While we can have FFS (female feminization surgery) to remove our masculine features externally , which we developed due to testosterone exposure, there is no such surgery to remove the masculinity from our bodies. You can't make shoulders smaller, or a person shorter, or wrists thinner and hands less thick, or lungs and heart smaller, rib cages slimmer, etc... Most trans women have body issues with the size of our hands, feet, shoulders and general height being too big to "pass" as a cis gender female. We know that we're different - that's why we are "transitioning" for god's sake!!!! It's appaling that so many of us conveniently forget all this when it comes to the trans women competing in womens sport. Absolutely ridiculous argument which history will look back on with astonishment.

He can make all sense bottomline is his entire existence doesn't make sense. I am not pro this whole trans stuff, but its simple society either accept it as a whole of not. • To me, the interesting question that transgender people's participation in sports brings up is why is there a gendered division within most sports to begin with? If there was a reason for having men's and women's sports separately, maintaining the consistency of that reason should lead to rational decision making regarding trans participation. If there is no good reason to separate genders, we can have all sports be co-ed and see how that works.

    • True Thomas didn't break the rules. Rather he (I don't respect those who don't respect others) CHOSE to take advantage of those rules for selfish reasons. So he is still responsible for his actions. Therefore, he can still carry blame for those actions. Just as the NCAA can be blamed for choosing to allow that to happen. But blame isn't important. What's important is making changes to correct the problem which is women are meant to compete in women's only sports. If they want to compete against men, fine. But they wanna know that going into the training which takes practically a lifetime. No one trains a lifetime to automatically be in the low ranking simply because it's impossible to win against biological nature. That's why they have handicapped Olympics. Would it be fair to have everyone (male, female, amputees, transgender, etc.) compete together? Possibly. But it sure would make it disappointing for most of the competitors. Why would they bother then? Having them separate gives people the option to not only enjoy the sports they like but compete with others they have a chance of succeeding against.

Trans gals will NOT need to have pap smears, nor are they at a risk of ovarian or uterine cancer. Doctors need to know this because someone can dress like a woman, appear like one, but NOT REALLY be a female, biologically. Also, a 'trans guy' (biological female) will need to indicate that to the doctor so that the BIOLOGICAL FEMALE can have the proper medical care and test for ovarian or uterine cancer, or other conditions related to their BIOLOGICAL SEX. Note that hormones alter the SECONDARY sexual characteristics, and not the PRIMARY sexual characteristics, which is the sex itself. Sex cannot be changed, though it can be surgically removed, or altered with hormones. The presence of the Y chromosome in every single cell of a biological male's body cannot be removed either, nor can a Y chromosome be added into the cells of a biological female. Now, because of transgender issues, one is forced to add the adjective 'biological' to male or female to distinguish REAL males and females, rightly so, from those who CHOOSE to take hormones and/or remove their genitals to look like those of the opposite sex. Without the hormone supplements and the genital removal procedure, those individuals would not naturally 'trans' into anything. They would simply remain on the OUTSIDE what their BIOLOGICAL SEX is on the inside of each and every cell: MALE or FEMALE.

If you get married, there are gains and there are losses. When you have children you gain the joy of children, but lose freedoms you had before having kids. Lia Thomas is not an innocent bystander. She wants everything ... all gain, and no sacrifice ... and she has zero consideration for any of her female teammates. Indeed, consideration of others is the basis of giving up certain freedoms/rights when you make life decisions. • Spot on! You are absolutely right! What Martina was doing here is called "deflection" which is a form of intellectual dishonesty. You see what she was doing is absorbing Lia Thomas of his moral responsibility because he is associated with the same community which she represents (the LGBT). Therefore holding him accountable too would result in backlash from within the community. If the NCAA decides to exclude transwomen from women's sport the LGBTQ community and all its ambassadors (which Martina is one of them) would be first to voice their rage and call for the officials of the NCCA to be canceled for being "transphobic". The LGBTQ is notoriously and excellently manipulative. Ever wonder why the LGBT community isn't vocal about this issue of transwomen competing in WOMEN's sports? As in, why they will never come out under the umbrella of the 'LGBTQ' movement and push against it? The LGBT community is a religious cult of its own, they are intentional in everything and that is why they are the best at lobbying their ideologies into policies even when it defies science or religion. It is nothing to do with fairness and equality, it is solely about POWER. Just like the BLM, nothing to do about black lives, it is about power to "do as thou will" (that's why BLM never speak about the unprecedented killings from gang violence or the heartbreaking rate of homicides even in Chicago alone, but that's another topic of its own). Those 2 organizations; LGBTQ and BLM are the devil's vessels.

  • I can’t fathom how Lia can feel good about winning and competing against biological women. If no one competes against Lia, then this injustice would quickly go away. If you’re a competitor boycott any competitions were men pretending to be women are competing.

    • @@stygianjack9017 that’s what I mean! Women are drowning in shame, that’s what we are taught to feel shame and guilt and responsibility for everyone. This person is clearly not a woman- the lack of shame and the entitlement are all male attributes.

    • The problem there (I am speaking as a competitive female athlete) is that if athletes don’t compete, they are the ones who suffer by not getting points, money, rankings etc. When you’ve worked your whole life to get to that level, to not compete is heartbreaking. It is not so easy as an individual to simply boycott, despite the fact it might help the situation otherwise.

  • I was a swimmer in high school. 100YD butterfly and 500 YD freestyle were my specialty events. Lea is a male. The muscles, bigger feet and bigger hands enables HIM to move more water than a woman can. UNFAIR.
