    • @@mrv9597 No they don't. In 1963 or there abouts, the government started to reduce the silver content in coinage so that a coin was not worth its precious metal content. Under Nixon the U.S. was taken off of the gold standard, making currency not linked to anything of value, just a promise that it had value. As a result, there is no specific value to the dollar. It varies depending upon the confidence of the holder. The result of this is that a quarter from the pre 1960 days is worth about $5. An ounce of gold in the 70' cost about $400, today $2,400. From the time of Roosevelt to the 1960's the value of the dollar was reasonably stable.

    • @davidsandy5917: The US Mint used an alloy of 90% silver & 10% copper for the common 10¢, 25¢, 50¢, and 1$ coins for general circulation up until 1964. From 1965, the Mint produced 10¢ and 25¢ coins using a clad copper-nickel alloy. The 50¢ coin used a 40% silver alloy from 1965 to 1970, and the copper-nickel alloy after that. The $1 coin was last produced for general circulation in 1935. When it was revived in 1971, it had the copper-nickel alloy. Since 1965, the Mint has produced various special collectors' coins in uncirculated and proof finishes, and in the copper-nickel alloy, and in some years, 40%, 90%, and even 99.9% silver. These aren't meant for general circulation.

  • The Democrats have never learned. Raising the minimum wage does nothing but raise prices which in turn require bigger minimum wage increases. The solution to the problem is getting a better education, trade school, technical school and a higher paying job. Fast food jobs were once meant for kids to earn some money towrds school, not making a full time living on. Burgers once cost 39 cence, now ... eight bucks and most of that was from raising the minimum wage.

Raising the minimum wage, simply raises the first rung making it difficult to get that needed start. There should be no minimum wage. The exchange of your effort for renumeration should be your choice, not the government's. If the wage is too low, then no one will take the job, thus the wage will increase. • CEO's create the jobs in the first place. Without them there would be no workers to worry about. Further, CEO's take all the risk and usually personally fund the start of their businesses. Most do not even take a salary for the first few years. Likewise, when you quote a 300 to 400 % increase, I ask based on what? Never quote a statistic without a source. Further, many CEO's are just keeping their heads above water. What CEO's are you referring to, Musk, Bezos, those guys? How many people do they employ? How about the vast majority that earn only in the five-figure range? My company's best year had revenues less than $70k. It was not my sole source of income but would not have been self-sustaining if it was. The basic message here is stop complaining about what someone else is accomplishing and accomplish something for yourself.

  • Negative isn't the problem. It's that it is an artificial increase not driven by market needs. Just because government waives a wand doesn't mean that businesses have the funds to comply. When that happens the always real minimum wage becomes evident. $0.00. A business can't hire or keep an employee that doesn't produce more than they are paid.

The issue with Ukraine is that Russia wants to avoid having Ukraine become part of NATO. Good we should not want it part of NATO. It is not to anyone's advantage. Frankly speaking why is the U.S. part of NATO? Are we now Europe's guardian? Why is not Russia part of NATO? They are a major European with a huge economy. It is always better to be inclusive, don't they say. It would be better for the world, as a whole, if all of the European countries were under the same umbrella and if the America's were not part of that umbrella. Why are American politicians trying to make war? Wars are not started by the people, they are started by the politicians.

It's meant for people who are just entering the workforce, kids and students. And for older folks who are looking for supplemental income. It was NEVER intended to be a "livable" wage. The idea that people think that a person working at McD's, who can't remember to "hold the pickles" should make 60k a year is beyond stupid. Zero industrial skils, zero life skills, underachievers (if its a career choice) expecting to make bank on companies who sell $5 products is ridiculous. Young People, STAY EMPLOYABLE... Keep the tats under control. you aren't a billboard. Keep the piercing's tasteful. If you can set off a metal detector from 30ft away, it's a bit much. Stay off the meds!!!!!! Moderation people, moderation. Like I said, be employable. Do these things, maybe get a trade and you wont have to complain about minimum wage, you'll see that there's MORE available to you. And for the LOVE OF GOD, stop with the victimhood excuses, the rest of us DO NOT care about that, we just shrug you off like we do a bum on the street (lost cause).

    • @davidsandy5917 correct, however the difference between an employee and an independent contractor is the key word...."independent". Are you siding with big business and corporations or the independence of a worker getting fewer benefits and increased risk and expenses???

      @leetjohnson@leetjohnson22 күн бұрын
    • @davidsandy5917 it's fairly cut and dry actually....if you tell someone how, when and where to do the work, on a repeated basis, without the contractor having other clients, they are an employee.

  • Minimum wage was supposed to be a base pay to help limit underpaying people for work performed. Normally paid to the unskilled as way to get your foot in the door. It was never intended to be a living wage. We used to be able to pay people more for experience. That was the incentive to work hard and get paid for it. Now minimum wage has been turned into a living wage. So experience might land you the job but you will not be paid for it. Kills the incentive to work hard if everyone makes the same. Everything goes up every time minimum wage is increased. The only one that benefits is the government from receiving more tax dollars. 26 years in retail management and I have seen the drastic change in the work force over the last decade do to this issue

That's a massive jump from the four decades prior to the pandemic, when profits drove just 11% of price growth.Jan 20, 2024

    • Unrealistic thinking. Companies are in business for one thing, to make money. They are NOT charities and they will pass every single expense to us. They're interested in keeping stockholders happy, not you. We will pay every DIME, every time they raise minimum wage. EVERY TIME! Stop supporting politicians that push this crap.
