You look Roman 👍
Bro looks like a Targaryen overlord
Lmao he really does 😂
I was thinking the Witcher
looks like Khaleesi and Julian Assange did a fusion dance.
I'm very surprised lol
Don't be that surprised! Some nerds are gorgeous!!

Hahahahahahaa
My guess as to why the late Roman period is underrated. It's like seeing a car crash in slow motion. A very special car that we'll never see again.
yeah or similar to how some of us don't like reflecting on world war II and its aftermath either
Yes, some topics fascinate but hurt. Glory days are easy to digest.
I was the kid rooting for the Romans in the Asterix comic books. The fascination only grew as an adult. I love all you creators of history videos, especially the Roman ones! Thank you for teaching me and letting me dream!
The history of Rome is like a party. 1. Monarchy and the beginning of the Republic - brainstorming various ideas on how to plan a party. 2. Julius Caesar and Augustus - the start of the party when everyone arrives in their best attire, smiling and happy. 3. The Five Good Emperors - the peak of the party. The right moment to leave the party, taking the best moments with you and avoiding any incidents or problems. Knowing when to leave is key. 4. From the Dominate to the fall of the West - a few drunken guests, some even intoxicated with other substances, and many peculiar characters - outsiders, but very interesting if you take the time to talk to them. 5. Byzantine period - 3/4 days of hangover after the party that you could have avoided if you had left the party on time and refrained from taking certain substances.
I’ve been interested in European history since I was a child, when I started reading historical fiction. That quickly led to reading real history. I’m also a scientist, a geologist, but we can love history, too!
If you're still interested in Roman fiction.. Adrian Goldsworthy is a Roman historian who wrote the Vindolanda series. 3 books about a Roman centurion stationed near the Hadrian wall. You'll learn a lot of little details of life back then, and the story is exciting!
@@celsus7979or Worms of the Earth by Robert E Howard
You have earned it, very accurate and detailed information. You told me so much about the late Roman empire that I did not know before, and your statement about the collapse of the Western Empire in line with my idea of the collapse, keep up you are good and your voice is suitable for this kind of videos
Sebastian! Congratulations to a most deserving channel founder, video producer and KZhead creator. "Maiorianus" is one of a hundred or so channels I watch casually, but only one of three which I respect academically, admire ethically and support financially. You deserve this milestone, and don't be embarrassing about "Gladiator!" It was a truly compelling movie, with a soul-wrenching story and music guaranteed to fill a Roman Aqueduct with Romanophile tears.
Kinda shows that even these highly flawed movies serve an important purpose. They make unknowing people interested in a whole New World of things, and some of them will be the next historians complaining about all the flaws in the movies :D
Congratulations! Your videos are super enjoyable, and as you say, this is a very interesting period of Roman history that is criminally underappreciated. We are talking about some 250 years from the beginning of the Crisis of the third century to the fall of Romulus Augustulus. Thats nearly as much time as the early days of Augustus to the fall of the Nerva-Antonines, thats a LONG time. I'll be congratulating you again when you reach 1 Million, which will not take that long, considering how good your content is! :)
Isn't it poetic that the empire fell when a guy was in charge who was named after the founder of Rome and the first emperor.. In him we have a representation of the start, the peak and the end.
the Roman Empire ended on 29MAY1453 with the fall of NOVA ROMA@@celsus7979
The late Roman Empire didn't finish with Romolus Augustulus, but went on for about another Millenium! 476 was not the end... and Romulus Augustulus was not the last emperor of the Roman Empire. I recommend to watch more videos of this channel! ;-)
The east was Roman in name only. The language was greek, the culture greek and christian. Even during the Roman empire the east was never Romanized like the west was. Greek culture remained dominant in every way. No Latin, no Roman gods, no senate, no anything Roman apart from a name
@@celsus7979 I guess this dispute is worthwhile a video... As far as know, Justinian (527-565) was possibly the last Roman emperor to speak Latin as a first language (see Wikipedia). I have coins of that period in Latin (not Greek). But yes, Greek was dominant in the East. Under the rule of Emperor Heraclius in 610, Greek became the official language of the Eastern Roman Empire. Still, the inhabitants considered themself as Romaioi, and the last Eastern Roman Emperor Constantine XI (1449-1453) was named after the Roman Emperor Constantine I (306-337). So it was a Roman Empire up to the end. And I hope there will be also videos of the later periods one day!
Physics? ... I study physics, and I read history to relax in the final of the day. I have a lot of questions about the evolution of Britain. The Romans went away, and we didn't know any about it until 3-5 centuries later.
Congratulations. Keep the historically accurate information flowing !
I had never even given late Roman history a thought before I found your channel; now I can't wait to learn more! Congratulations, and keep up the good work!!😀😃😄
I had no idea you were self-taught in Roman history. You definitely command your material like a scholar. Congratulations!
Sebastian be looking like an AI generated person! Jokes aside. Love your content, dude. Late antiquity is absolutely the coolest. Prelude to the age of Arthurian legend.
Wow, 100K! Congratulations! Thank you for all that you do
Congrats man, we need more videos on the Medieval Romans as well. Ioannes Tzmiskies, Basil II, Alexios Komnenos for example
Felicitări, frate!!!
You deserve it! I absolutely love your videos and enjoy every single one
Thanks a lot :) I am extremely happy to hear that, this is really heartwarming that so many people are interested in late Roman history.
I have been for many years now and I had a two week vacation in November in Italy, visited Naples and Rome and it was just amazing @@Maiorianus_Sebastian
I understand your intense interest in Roman history my friend my first introduction to Rome started in 1956 with Caesar's Conquests ( Classics Illustrated). Have been at it ever since.
I love your channel. I hope you can do videos about the Eastern Roman Empire as well. I appreciate how you bring that lost Roman world alive visually.
Congratulations! That is no easy accomplishment. Bravo!
Well-deserved. I have also been studying Roman history for around 20 years. I confess that I was somewhat indifferent when I first heard about Ancient Rome in school. Then I saw the film Gladiator and I have not been able to shake off the obsession ever since! My uncle gave me his personal library of some 50+ books and took me to Hadrian's Wall, the thermae at Bath, Colchester castle (Camulodunum), Vindolanda, etc. Your channel has opened my mind to new questions and theories about Rome, for which I am heartily grateful.
Congrats, man!!! Your channel is really cool. Also, your look is very cool!!!
Congratulations! I want to thank you for producing these wonderful and informative videos. I am especially interested in videos of Dalmatia during the time of the late Roman Empire.
I read that Dalmatia supplied more Roman emperors than any other region. Interesting if true!
It was an honor, Dominus. You’re the only Patreon I support
Congratulations! I feel similarly! Keep up the good work!
I was always curious because history is taught so categorized, as in 476 Rome fell to homeless barbarians and the next day everything was knights, kings, peasants and castles. I watched the movie King Arthur when it came out and wondered why the soldiers looked the same as in movies set 300 Years earlier. Despite this oversight, the movie served in peaking my interest in the details of that time period, of making me seek answers to other curiosities around that time period. Im so grateful for finding this channel. It was like "you're not the only one, here is everything you ever wanted to know and much much more". Keep up the good work Sebastián, I'm elated to see it paying off for you, you deserve it!
wow Sebastian looks like Geralt of Rivia lmao ( just kidding i love you so much for what you're doing )
U r so cool 🤍🤍🤍 all your videos are gems !💎 Thank you so much ,is a pleasure to listen to you ! And i don t have a problem with AI ,this is the charm ! ❤
It has been quite the journey! I remember like it was yesterday when I talked about AI in discord and you tried having it imagine Majorian or just roman emperor and the results were meh. It seemed like you'd give up on it but the technology has evolved a lot since, which is great, it makes awesome thumbnails. Keep up the good work!
I became fascinated with the Roman Empire from the times my dad took me and my brothers to visit Hadrian's Wall. I am interested in the end of things - I remember years ago bingeing on Wikipedia reading how various empires collapsed. I think what I get most out of your channel was how close to the end the Western Roman Empire almost bounced back. If I can make a request - Can you please make a video on the bagaudae / bacaudae? Maybe video on the late 'Roman' Scotland and the confusing situation of a potential Scottish province of Valentia late into the empire? Or the Notitia Dignitatum?
Congratulations and all the best, Maiorianus!
I've always been enjoying your videos. Keep it up my friend 🎉
Congratulations! Yours is one of my top three favourite Ancient History channels, and I really appreciate the focus on much-neglected late Roman history - you've really opened my eyes to how different it was to earlier Roman eras. I don't mind the occasional use of AI images to illustrate your points as long as it doesn't become excessive and they stay within the bounds of historical accuracy - I just wish that these images weren't always of such unfeasibly attractive people but I guess that's just how AI works...
Congratulations, Sebastian! I really enjoy your content and I'm honored to support your channel as a member.
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate your kind words and your support, it really means a lot to me :)
When I learned about Majorian I was fascinated, I was even more when I saw that your channel was talking about him and the late roman empire, my favorite period, a period of how a dying empire can still be powerfull even on its last legs, Majorian would show that the Western Roman Empire was still a empire to be feared
Your channel is great congratulations. For me my first love of the Roman empire was when i was in 5th grade when I first saw the Roman world on a map! My love and passion never died.
Ave!
For me, it started playing Civilization V years many ago, the scenario called Fall of Rome. I wondered how such a huge empire could become so debilitated to the point of fearing these smaller tribes.
Same yo
Espero que hagas mas videos de los emperadores romanos bizantinos antes, durante y después del emperador Justiniano, osea durante los siglos 5,6 y 7,esas épocas tambien son poco conocidas y sería muy interesante ver tus videos de estos temas. Saludos!
I got into late Roman history via a Syfy-historical novel Less Darkness Fall by L. Sprague De Camp, first published in 1940. I bought a copy of it 25 years later in 1965 one of my favorite books.
Congratulations on reaching 100K. Keep up the great work. Peace ✌🏻 and Merry Christmas. 🎄👍 P.S. Looking well, Prince of House Targaryen.
Hello and thanks a lot for your kind words :) I also wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best.
I really appreciate your interest in late roman history and sharing your knowledge on this topic. I think a video on the kingdom of Odacar and the Gothic kingdom of Italy both of which were nominally federated with the Eastern Roman Empire... and then the reconquest of italy by the Romans during the Gothic wars of the 530s would be a great segway for the second fall of the Western Empire with the Lombard invasion...?
One of my hobbys is creating an alternative timeline of Roman History from Gordian the Thirds Reign onwards. Currently I am in the late 7th Century, and your channel has been a great help in creating this timeline. Before I started that hobby i knew very little about the late Roman Empire, now after One and a half Years of working with the topic, it is my favourite era of History. Thank you for your Videos, absolute quality content!
Thank you for your channel, Sebastian "Maioranus" 🙏 🦅 SPQR
Let’s gooo!!!!£ congratulations man! You deserve it! Hope you 200.000 soon !
Thanks so much :)
Ah ! The lack of interest for the late Roman Empire. You struck my inner being there ! I've always been a supa dupa military history nerd to the point I did 10 years in the army in part so I could relate to these tales from the past with my own experience. And being a super nerd of Roman history, I wrote a 540 page novel set in the 250's and the lack of interest in the period is such, I've never found anyone to read to give me feedbacks. It was supposed to be a 4 books series but I stalled at the beginning of part 2... When I was young, I thought everyone had an interest in the past. The older I grow, the lonelier I become in my passions. On a daily basis, for me, only internet can give a sence of not being the only one on earth to care about our roots. Thanks maiorianus ❤
Upload it, I'll give it a chance!
I'm similar. I spend most of my time online reading about the past and watching videos. To anyone who mentions Romans and novels in the same sentence i reply: Adrian Goldsworthy - Vindolanda 3 novels about a centurion stationed near Hadrian's wall. Every lover of Roman history who likes a good story should read them!
@@celsus7979 thanks however..... ... its in french
Merde! I suggest you find a french site to publish it. For your own satisfaction as well as for the people who may enjoy it. Even if only one person enjoys it, that's a difference you will have made to that person's life! Don't let your work go to waste!
Maybe a french history blog site?
Way to go, mate!
Late Roman history? It's medium Roman history. There's still a thousand years after. Hope the channel stays strong. Nothing wrong with being inspired by a fantasy movie.
Congratulations, well done
Loved your collaboration with history time
Amazing that you have done everything without any history background. You're videos are always so well researched and well balanced.
Congratulations Sebastian! Love your channel, looking forward to upcoming videos. Keep up the good work!
Congrats my friend! I absolutely love to see your channel continuing to grow.

I highly appreciate your channel, Ive learned so much and late antiquity is now my favorite time period. Thanks for your hard work and your passion is surely contagious
Congratulations, your KZhead channel is amazing! 🙂🙂🙂
I like the creator's style, work ethic, passion and cool sounding voice. I've been watching for a while and will continue to learn about the Late Roman Empire, awesome channel, much appreciated!
Thank you Sébastien. I have always been fascinated with late Roman history. Especially since it parallels what's going on now in the world and with the American empire. I especially enjoyed the video you made showing the similarities. I hope we can learn from Roman mistakes but... Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for your extremely kind words and your generous support! It is highly appreciated.
Congrats clarissimus! .. and now .. eagerly awaiting for the 200k subscribers! 😎
I love your videos man. Late Roman history is often neglected. And it is extremely pertinent to the times of today. Keep up the good work, Maiorianus.
Congratulations. I've learned a lot from you. Thank you.
There is lots and lots of history and we know and understand so little of it
Sebastianus ❤
I've been fascinated by the ancient Roman empire since I was a kid and through KZhead realize a lot of guys also shared this interest.
Just wanted to say that i was one of your first subscribers back when you were at 20k and even though i rarely subscribe to stuff, I was amazed at your attention to detail in your documentaries and despite what you said about not being a historian by trade you sure done a lot better work in helping someone really understand the period better than any other documentary out there. The one thing I would like for you to change in your channel if you can, is to make all your videos differently. Don't put ads mid video only at the start or at the end of a video. Otherwise its very disorientating especially on some where you go into deep and complicated stuff. Thanks for teaching me so much stuff about the period.
Wow, that was unexpected, but welcome! Thank you for giving us all these videos about late rome, thanky to you - and total war attila in the beginning - i learned to apprecheate the late Empire times more than i did before or compared to the eastern roman era. Would hope you take vidoe suggestions? I would like to know more about the late roman army: What where their battle formations? Why did they have so many sub-groups of comitatenses, like Batavii, Cornutii and so on, why did they have sub-groups (seniores and iuniores?) Why did many of them wear crests, while others in their cohort did not? Did they symbolize rank or standing? What is the meaning of crest colors? - I am going to stop now, but there are so many questions i have about the late roman army and I hope you could answer them - even it is only in the far future :D Thank you for making these videos! Thank you for all your work here!
For information about the military i recommend Adrian Goldsworthy. He specializes in the military of the Romans, wrote several excellent books like 'The Complete Roman Army' He has a youtube channel too. At the moment he is giving a lecture on the Romans in a series of videos that might become 30 hours long, or more. Part 2 just came out.
@@celsus7979 Always good to have people around who know their chanles, thank you very much!

My very favorite channel. It made me aware how society has focused solely on much the earlier history. Learning about the late Roman Empire has opened my mind with a link to understanding the world we live in today. So glad your fans have made you so happy! Congrats on the 100K!
We see the face of the legend!!! Great work bro!!! Loved your channel since your first video! Keep up the great work!!!

Congrats for the miliestone👏👏👏
Congrats on the milestone! Appreciate your passion and style
We should be thanking you for all the hard, informative work you do for us, so: THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR US!
Question: When did the LATE Roman Empire actually begin? 235? Or did it start to go downhill after 180AD; during the reign of Commodus? It would make sense, since Sebastian started this channel because of the movie Gladiator. ;-)
bravo M
Congratulations Sebastian! 100,000 "C" subs.Thank you for the great content, and you do look the part!

Thank you for all you do. Thanks also for acknowledging those who helped you along the way no matter how small or how seemingly inconsequential. Maiorianus is a passion project, that can be seen in this video's honest discussion mapping out what you want to do and why you want to do it. Rome in it's entirety through all of it's ages has captivated my imagination my whole life. I was skeptical of the channel at first, but it only took two videos and I was subscribed. I've only been on board since January, but the volume of content and it's quality are ridiculously high. This channel is a great source of inspiration and stimulates the imagination. Congratulations on the 100,000th subscribe and congratulations on what you have done and continue to talk about Roman history, which is really interesting.
A milestone. Love this channel!
Well done
Congratulations and much deserved! Your content is always informative and enjoyable. And no shame in Gladiator sparking your interest. That's what historical entertainment should be about. It should be compelling, interesting and invite you to dig deeper. On the same note, they were going to launch the Juno probe to Jupiter without a standard camera. There wasn't any scientific value to be gained. It was all about conducting precise research with instruments and payload space is at a premium, but some folks fought, with good cause, to get a camera on the probe. Even though it may not contribute much to the science directly, it sparks the interest and fascinates the public that we count on to fund this research, and to inspire another generation to get involved with the space program. So I'm a fan of any entertainment that inspires people to seek and learn and I'm thankful for the movie Gladiator, if for no other reason than it brought you here with us today. Cheers mate!
You know what I love about your videos was how you mentioned the aftermath of the WRE because nobody ever mentioned what happened after the fall of the WRE.
I always liked his accent. It sounds Austrian to me. Very excellent and informative channel with beautiful artwork.
I have a question: If Rome remained a republic and not an empire, does it have what it takes to survive the Crises of the Third Century and the Fifth Century? P.S: Congratulations for reaching 100k subscribers!
My theory is that: Republican traditions played major role in romes success, even when republic fell princiat reteined it's functions, only when it completely faded without traditional monarchy culture, it was doomed to have great crisis
As i understand it, the old Republican system crumbled under the weight of the complexity of the empire. An example is the invasion of Italy by Hannibal. The consuls ruled for only 1 year. In their desperate desire to be the one to defeat Hannibal they became reckless. Army after army was lost until one consul was brave enough to stop the madness of confronting Hannibal with inexperienced troops. He shadowed Hannibal's armies, harassing them in a guerrilla style. This was seen as cowardly in Rome, but when it worked it was accepted as the way forward. Ironically, the guy had to brave Rome's elite to be a 'coward' in battle. An emperor, the good ones anyway, provided much needed stability and a single focused answer to problems. The senate on the contrary, became overwhelmed by the problems the empire threw at them.
Congratulations to Sebastian and this community. I began watching this channel and also your channel about space exploration a few years ago and it's nice to see how much it has grown since then. Space happens to be another one of my passions along with Roman history, but I think it was good that you made the commitment to focus on this channel and passed off operation of the space channel to someone else, because your passion and research is most valuable here covering this rare but important subject. Hopefully this community will continue to grow and share the fascination of late Roman history with the world. P.S. One thing I would like to see more on this channel in the future are collaborations with other Roman history channels when possible, both for cross promotion to different audiences and also because there are some other good related channels here on YT.
