✨Don't miss the new video "27 more Forgotten RPG Games" - kzhead.info/sun/qNKAaNllanyolI0/bejne.html
Is there a reason you're saying the word 'Game' twice in all these titles?
I'll go to the ATM machine and input my PIN number to buy a new RPG game.
This is to make the video easier to find in a youtube search@@Qedhup
I still want Arx Fatalis to be updated and remastered for modern consoles. Hell, they already remastered Enclave for PS4 and Xbox One and soon for the PS5. A very underrated hidden rpg gem indeed.
Get a microphone and stop using computer generated voices.
As someone who loves anything RPG, this was a treasure trove of forgotten and underrated gems. Thank you for sharing them with us. I haven't even heard of most of them, and they all look unique and quirky, so I'm going to play them all one by one. Thanks again for your hard work. You got another sub.
What are you favorite rpgs? :3
@@DieEineMieze So far? It might surprise you. Radiata Stories, Skyrim and Witcher 2.
Death Spank and Rune are the best of the games shown above. I remember playing both after they were released. Just a month ago I replayed Rune and realized just how well made it actually is. Its not just nostalgia, its the whole setting, the difficulty, the grit, the story, the fantasy and puzzle elements .... Everything fits together perfectly. And Deathspank is just such a silly, comedic game, you have to love it. 🙂 Also played Enclave, Arx Fatalis, Drakensang (also really good), Silverfall, The Cursed Crusade and LotR War in the North.
From RPGs, Betrayal at Krondor and Ultima VIII: Pagan - are two of the greatest games of all time. Too old to remember, too great to understand... Dig in.
Damn Betrayal at Krondor definitely takes me back.. Thanks for the reminder!
I LOVED Betrayal at Krondor back in the day.. Fantastic RPG for its time!
Ultima VIII is the second worst in the series though
Ultima VII FTW
Pagan is worth playing once you have played through at least Ultima 6, 7, 7 part 2, and both Ultima Underworlds. Pagan is unfinished and problematic for sure.
Thank you so much for the list, always craving for more good stories in a game, so much forgotten and hidden gems
I really liked Drakensang. It was different than any other rpg I'd played; completely different rule set. It had its problems and I found it difficult, but I really enjoyed my time with it. And Arx Fatalis, what can you say. A real early masterpiece.
It's based on the pen & paper RPG "The Dark Eye", which is the biggest RPG from Germany. Drakensangs art direction is inspired by romantic art (especially Caspar David Friedrich), which seems to combine nicely with the setting and makes for a fairly unique atmosphere. Also, the music is done by the same composer who also made the soundtrack from Spellforce, both soundtracks are really good.
I was loving Arx Fatalis and then my save corrupted and I never touched the game again. Just don't feel like starting over
Arx Fatalis originally was planned as Ultima Underworld 3, but EA denied the license to the arcane studios so they moved it into its own universe, but the similarities to the Underworlds can be found left and right! Imho EAs biggest gaming sin, to simply let Ultima die as franchise, it had the possibility to become as big as Elder Scrolls but EAs beancounters really f*** it up!
You've got to give the sequel a try then! It's an improvement in pretty much every respect, especially story & characters.
I had war in the north at one time. while annoyingly linear and with zero character customization, it was incredibly fun to play. It truly felt like a LotR story as well, despite not being aggravatingly long as the books are.
This two Drakensang games are totally underrated, they are awesome! Many games of this list like Rune, Enclave, Hunted etc are no RPG games.
RPG is a very poorly defined genre so you can't really say they aren't RPG's.
The very first thing you research in E.Y.E. is a health pack... that can occasionally kill you. You gain Brozoufs. Your legs are okay. God, I love that game.
Nice to see Ghost of a tale here, one of the few RPG where combat is not an option and you're supposed to stealth or bluff you way through guards. Also exploration is about finding every nook and cranny of a modestly sized area that you will know like the back of your hand by the end, instead of the usual giant open world where maybe 5% has something other then scenery. Which can be good or bad depending on your tastes I suppose.
I played Venetica back in the day, a great story and amazings graphics and action game play for its time period. It wasn't completely linear either and it DID have two endings. Granted, most of the plot is fairly linear and the conversations in which you can pick different answers that express more selfless benign or powerhungry brutal intentions seem to be mostly for fluff, but they do have impact on the ending and you can also join two dfferent factions, which does change quite a bit in the mid game. In the end, you confront your evil half-brother who ursurped death's powers to rule over Venice as a tyrant and get the "we aren't so different" villain speach from him, in which he lists the more questionable things you did in the game and the number of people you killed to get to him (depending on your actual playthrough, which I totally didn't expect in that kind of game). After you defeat him, you look at his throne pensively for a moment - and then either pass by it and walk away or sit down on it and take his place, dpending on how you behaved during your playthrough.
Cool vid, great narrative and games.
You should look at kingdoms of amalur. It's great, love the fae ballads there.
I see you are also a man of culture.
Niiiiiiiicccceeeeee
Man, a few weeks ago those rumors started flying that Amalur 2 was finally going to be announced - still nothing though. I put so many hours in Amalur, at least 5 or 6 full play throughs now, and 2 more with that re-release from a few years ago. Shame what happened to the studio and the game.
oh damn! thank you! i was thinking of that game since like 3 yerars and every time my brain was like "hey! you remember that ***************** game? yeah, id like to play it but you know.. xD" i genuinely tried for 3 hrs to find it xDD
Thanks for this video!!!!
Thank you so much for this TOP 😍
thank you for pointing out the game e.y.e divine cyberdermancy. I love this game and have spent many hours playing it.
Another forgotten RPG I got a lot of mileage out of...Two Worlds II. Developed by Polish studio Reality Pump, published by TopWare Interactive and released in US in 2011. It had one of the most intricate and interesting spell crafting systems I have ever engaged with.
The entire internet is laughing at you.
Two Worlds and Two Worlds 2 were totally absolutelly great game...thanks for remember me, i almost forgot them
Two Worlds 2 was great
Drakensang 😍, I played, replayed and re-replayed that like crazy when I was younger. Good video btw!
I played, replayed and re-replayed the Resident Evil classic games when I was younger.
Great video, the images online don't give these games any justice, but your clips show them off quite well.
again these those one I have....good job
Great video 😊
Rune is probably the best game to play with friends that I have ever tried. It`s so good!
very intresting list thank you played some of these and never heard of most!
Role playing game game. Good video I liked it!
Really good list!
"Evil Islands" and "Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader" are very cool old games too. My favorite ones from childhood.
Evil Islands is basically Rage of Mages 3. I loved the 1st 2 games so much, I made cursors out of the weapons in the shop.
@@alexandrupatru2892 it is. I played only 2-nd one but I haven't value it very properly since I accidently completed it when I was 6 years old) In case of Evil Islands I understood it much more because I played it after 8 and replayed it many times.
@@Sargatas The opposite for Me. I never got past the tutorial of Evil Islands, it seemed alien in its presentation compared to the 1st 2 and the camera and sneak mechanics were just too much. Maybe worth another try.
@@alexandrupatru2892 I didn't use stealth 99% of time...I played either with nuclear spells or with immortal warrior. Both don't give a damn how much enemies they confront and how strong they are: dead anyway. Actually I play this way almost in all games. If game allows me to solve all my problems by making immortal all-powerful one-man-army I take it...because I hate puzzles, stealth, billions of talking options and hours long roundabout quests that lead to the same point. I thought this way when I was 6 and now I'm almost 24 and nothing has changed)
Dungeon crawlers like Legend of Grimrock 2 is what we call a "blobber", and I still enjoy playing it from time to time. Surprised by the list though. I had forgotten some of these yet played a couple of the others named off, and never heard of the rest!
Can't help but agree, these games are special. Full of soul and an obviously passion projects refined to a masterpiece. 💞✌😊👍
That was interesting !
Very informative video. I got to play the following in this interesting list... Hunted Demon's Forge Drakensang the Dark Eye Sudeki Venetica Bound By Flame Lord of the Rings War in the North Might give Jason Rise of the Argonauts & Raven's Cry another look.
I played through Jason Rise of the Argonauts earlier this year, it was a fairly entertaining, if standard experience. It's very linear, but truthfully sometimes that's nice. With so many open world games these days, it's nice to just go back to a game you can play straight from start to finish, enjoy the story and characters, and not have to stress too much about potentially missing collectibles or quests. Worth a playthrough if you're into these sort of games.
Lol made me remember "dungeon seige", Imagine that with modern graphics in 1st person, i showed my 3 yr old son how to play his first pc game, 20 years on he's still an avid gamer
Funny I was trying to remember that game watching this. Graphics weren’t bad for the time. Definitely a classic
Great list I have about half of these, time to go shopping lol
I played Sudeki decades ago and atm i wanted to find the name of this game and you did it. Sudeki is the best from this list, it's just old graphic
I can personally recommend Venetica, Ghost of a Tale, E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy and Arx Fatalis. I have beat them all!
Arx Fatalis other strong selling points is that you have a lot of player autonomy. You can resolve quests and problems in different ways making you truly feel like you had your own adventure than a scripted one. Gothic 1 follows this same thing. Also Venetica had 3 guilds you can join each having a different look for your character and having different subplots
I've seen a couple of these types of channels that compile "forgotten" or "hidden gem" type games, but I'm also disappointed by the depth of their coverage. When you started off with Ghost of a Tale, I legitimately thought, "Oh yeah - I *DID* forget that," lol. You sure do know a lot more than many video game channels on KZhead; definitely subbing! Love discovering - or being _reminded of_ - stuff like many of the games on this list!
I see you....
From the ones listed here that I have played: Arx Fatalis is amazing, even by modern standards. Played it recently, for the first time, and while it did have 1-2 hiccups, it is great. Enclave is equally fantastic, but with no flaws to it. It's a more arcade experience though. Both are dirt-cheap on Kinguin, for anyone interested. Hunted Demon's Forge is basically Gears of War with a hot elf and a hot ghost-lady. It's fine, just don't expect to be blown away. Faery Legends of Avalon is a turn-based RPG. The really cool part (apart from the 360 movement of the flying fairies) is how much you can customize your fairy with various insect parts, through the gear you gather. You start with the typical girly fantasy fairy with the butterfly wings and end up with an insect Frankenstein's monster. Other than that though, it's pretty indifferent. LOTR War in the North: I forgot I had even played that until I saw it on my steal library.
I just purchased Faery: Legends of Avalon after watching this video. I will have to give an update on what I think of it once I play through it! Only $0.75 on Steam so no big loss if I don't like it!
I played Drakensang, enjoyed it very very much :)
"players can only move forward, backward, and to the side, there are no diagonal movements" - he spoke this as though it were a feature and not poor game design. it was very impressive.
Oh jeez, Deathspank. I recall playing a demo of it years ago, and almost immediately forgot all about it. Lol That said, I vaguely remember it being fun and funny.
The original PC Deus Ex was friggin decades ahead of its time. If they modernized some mechanics and remade it in Unreal 5 it would be a mega hit.
Man I just love Role Playing Game Games.
Drakensang was a brilliant game, faithfully recreating the pen and paper original. This game should have really attracted more attention.
I guess it was more popular in the German market than international, similar to the pen and paper rpg. It did a great job at replicating the DSA game mechanics and the feel of the game world. Drakensang is to DSA (The Dark Eye rpg system) what the classic Baldurs gate and Neverwinter Nights games are to D&D.
@@chrisrudolf9839 Not really, not compared to the Nordland-trilogy. Drakensang is more about the atmosphere than the rules. Magic especially works out very differently, beause your magic power regenerates instantly. (I also miss some fluff here: Why don't I get a magic staff that can be further developed with additional enchantments?)
Deathspank is awesome. I have the best memories playing it with my younger brother.
Many great games but forgotten overtime ❤.
It's pretty old now ,but I will always enjoy "Shadowrun" on the old Sega genesis. For the limits of the system ,it was a great play. Not perfect ,but great fun. Too bad we never got another one.
There is a new Shadowrun trilogy on modern systems
@@delfrickintree775 really?! I'll have to look in on that.
A few others of note: Two Worlds: Short, linear main questline with tons of side quests and exploration. Merge-based equipment upgrading along with Diablo-like gems, as well as foraging and alchemy. Geneforge: OS CRPG where you create monsters to fight by your side. Your decisions change how you are seen, and will change the ending depending on the faction you most align with. Cythera: Summoned by the king (like Ultima), you never fully know if he is good or sane, as the entire population is suffering from a mind altering pandemic, and your guide might be just as crazy. Tons... I mean absolute TONS of spells, and a fair amount of NPCs you can recruit to follow you that you can only hire once it's revealed within their dialog. All followers have different skills, and depending on which ones you've chosen, have different banter between them. An assassin and a guard, for instance... is a tenuous relationship at best... There's also a DOS RPG based inventory system, and all the GUIs are in movable windows.
Lotr war in the north is such a gem, it’s a shame it got ridiculed by reviewers at the time due to Skyrim releasing the same year, idk why steam removed the game so if anyone’s looking to buy it you can get it off sites like CD keys or you can pick up a physical copy if you have a disk drive for your PC :)
Pretty sure it because Warner Bros license rights expired meaning they couldn't make and sell any new copies.
Most of these, I've never heard of. But I had Sudeki when I had an x-box. Finished the game and loved it. Bought the game again for PC just to have. I would like to add 2 games I felt a similar love for. Jade Empire Rogue Galaxy
I played and finished Enclave back in my Uni days, really fun game. Never got to finish Archangel back then, now I can't seem to find the game anywhere. I got Venetica, Numen, Faery, Hunted: Demon's Forge, Sudeki, Silverfall, Arx Fatalis and Bound by Flame in my Steam Library, never got to finish them. Time to finish my backlog, starting with these games. :) Dungeon Siege 1 and 2, Dungeon Lords, FATE series and Hellgate: London are also some of my favorites and now seems to be forgotten.
good list of games I've played a few of them
Omg, I never thought anyone would remember Silverfall. I spent so many hours in that game.
Sad to say I own about half of these, but many I've never played, some I've only played part-way, and there's only a few I've finished. There was a couple titles in here that I hadn't heard of before though, and some I have but just don't own..Cursed Crusade looks right up my street though (shame about the weapon durability), crazy how I missed that one, will have to check that out at some point.
more in my gaming library!
these games are nice! I'll give some of them a try I've played some of those old games like, drakensang, cursed crusade, and sudeki and rune and they're awesome in their time. I bet games like tyranny, age of decadence, and pillars of eternity were forgotten as well, but they're good actually.
Gotta love those role playing games games
Crusaders of Might and Magic. That was a good forgotten game
I have the entire deathspank series and it was a blast Xp "JUST GET IN THE BAG FUTURE CRIMINAL!"
I can recommend Drakensang and Sudeki, although the descriptions given focus on totally random unimportant facts about the games. If this wasn't written using AI then it might as well have been. Arx Fatalis is good too, although with modern hardware it is difficult to get the spells to work properly because the game does not read the mouse inputs very well.
I was just thinking that too. The voice sounds like it might be ai generated as well
There is a source code version of Arx Fatalis that has made the hand gestures more precise.
You guy's did a great job on this video. It would be nice to compliment you with a first name only even if you put it in the very beginning of the video. So thank you ... for the upload.
I feel like Two Worlds deserves a spot on this list. Underrated/passed-over game.
Hunted: Demon's Forge, i still have it! I remember playing this with my friend and it really was meant for co-op play. If you didn't try to work together the fights could get difficult.
I thought I knew video games, but I only knew maybe Three of these only one of which I've actually played. So I'm hunting them down and adding them to my steam library, most are pretty cheap as well. Some I could not find however, maybe not on steam and some like the dark souls type ones I'm not interested in. But I've got Arx downloaded now, and it was only 3.99 so I'm off to try it out cheers for filling me in.
I only play 1 game on this list and i really enjoy it for its time "Rise of Argonauts"
DeathSpank was one of the funniest dang things I ever played. Portal 2 never made me laugh as much as DeathSpank did. Uproarious fun.
Irre, alle Spiele die ich liebe waren dabei, und ich dachte nur ich mag Argeangel oder Rune oder das tolle Sudeki🎉
ghost of a tale is one of my fav games :)
I want sequel of this game.
I had Rune. Pretty solid game. It was kind of gritty, an dark.
Who remembers the Legaia saga? First one sure was ugly but had so much mystery with that fog-ridden world.
Unepic is so freaking good -- multiplayer with friends is the best
I hear Raven's Cry had a good reason for being "forgotten". I like Ventica a lot. Very clunky movement and weaponplay but and I think the sound was kind of all over the place but it definitely has a charm to it. Wouldn't mind a sequel. Hunted, sadly couldn't really keep my attention for long. Bound by Flame scared the crap outta me with some of its enemy designs, and coupled with the outdated feel I didn't stay on that one for long, either. Liking the concept, though. War of the North is awesome, at least to the extent it ties into the actual journey of the Ring, which will be apparent as you reach various parts of the game.
some of those were forgotten for good reasons :D
If you give "Drakensang" a chance, consider also taking a look at the successor "Drakensang: The River of Time". Narrational, it is a prequel to the original... technically, everything the first was, just better.
I definitely get what you mean, but I'd say that the first game lets you visit some pretty cool environments (obviously subjective) which is less so the case with River of Time.
@@burningsheep4473Subjective, of course it is. I liked the enviroments in both games... there are some lovely settings, and the style and graphics are adorable (and have aged quite well). Personally, I liked the story in the second one so much more. It was just a classic RPG adventure, while I found the disconnect between the setup and the "main quest" in the first one very jarring. But the second part sports a number of QOL improvements, that the developers took from player suggestions. I like that sort of dedication.
Drakensang was really cool :)
Good luck finding Deathspank. Been searching for a few months and is a hard title to find.
Venetica actually has two endings, not just one. The typical "Good" ending, and the "Evil" ending.
Cant believe Gothic 1 and 2 isnt on the list :D
They are more remembered by people, maybe it´s the reason. Granted, that series deserve even more praise.
@@sofiar.r.9063 Yep, pretty much this. They're probably not on the list because the Gothic series hasn't been forgotten about by any RPG enthusiast. We all know about them, even if chances are good most people will only have played one of the more recent entries in the series, if any at all. Point is they've not been forgotten about.
bound by flame dude good game :)
Ви там тримайтеся, в харковській областіі. Гарний контент. Приємно бачити чудовий український канал про ігри.
Arx fatalis is masterpiece
Oh yes, it is! Me no talking to stinkin human!
Arx Fatalis, Enclave & Sudeki were also released on Xbox.
Legit! Haven't heard of most of these which is saying something
Ive never heard of most of these. I was playing Grimrock 2 and thought: this game stimulates my imagination. Many of these arent on Steam. Some must be truly bad and grindy arpgs from old. But the background story of many sounds very interesting.
Today, will be awesome play this games on phones
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is 1 of best game im played im suggest all people to try.
One point: On Raven's cry you say pirate's are depicted closer to the historical truth - they're dark and ruthless villains. Most were historically former naval officers that became disillusioned with serving and dying for king & and country while taking all the risks, and getting shafted on payments for their troubles. Many were profiteers, but the majority had some background in the navy before deciding to go into business for themselves. Which made them profiteers. "Evil" was not necessarily what they were. Out for themselves, or eventually more concerned with their own survival and profit rather than bleeding and dying for some rich king or queen who wouldn't know them from Adam, is a more apt description of most "pirates."
I did forget about the deathspank franchise those are really fun games remember that to tell everybody that you got felt by Fred It was a funny series, and then the Lord of the rings war of the North I actually didn't forget about that game that one was a good one too
Found Silverfall on sale for $0.99! Looks interesting. Also tried to find Legend:Hand of God but it looks like it's abandoned and unplayable on modern machines.
Grimrock II is the best RPG game ever made. It is not forgotten by any means. Rune, Enclave, Hunted and Cursed Crusade - are pure action-slasher games, not an RPG. Especially Rune, it's a very basic, pure traditional hack-n-slash. (not saying it's a bad thing) Hunted is more like oldschool Golden Axe, - only darker, 3D and with a megaton of secrets. Enclave is a very pretty (for its time and beyond) hack-n-slash that requires some strategy. Cursed Crusade - is a hack-n-slash with a gimmick that was popular around the ~mid 2000s and is built around a blade-ballet choreographic eye candy and crusaders-knights-Templars theme. If that appeals to you, then this is best game available with such theme. Provided, you like hack-n-slash. Cause that's exactly what this game is. The RPG statement is a lie. It is very similar to 2004 "Conan", - only prettier, more advanced and with European knights. Knights of the Temple II - was indeed an RPG game, and a pretty damn good one at that (sans the ending). The first part of it, just like "The Last Templar" and Cursed Crusade - are purely hack-n-slash games.
Honorable mention: vampire the Masquerade redemption/ bloodlines .
LOTR is fun ! Cooperative too
If we're going for games by Spiders Studio ("Bound by Flame" and "Faery: Legends of Avalon" that you mentioned), I'd also highly recommend "Technomancer" and "Mars: War Logs". They're all admittedly a bit rough around the edges, but I really enjoyed the post apocalyptic setting, mature story and characters in both of them, and as a bonus, they both happen in the same world and their stories happen in parallel to each other. Of course, perhaps the best and most polished game by Spiders thus far is "Greedfall" and gladly not yet forgotten. And if we're going for games like "The Cursed Crusade", I'd also recommend "The First Templar". A very similar setting happening during the crusades and about the fall of the Knights Templar order. Similar style skill progression where we spend exp points to learn new skills and get stronger.
The two Templar games are not similar. They only have a bare minimum of common traits. Namely - the genre, the theme and the two-player shtick. Other than that, The Cursed Crusade is a far, far more advanced game in every respect. But what stands out the most - is art direction and fight choreography. First Templar is almost cartoonish and bland, while The Cursed Crusade is highly detailed with a lot of architectural and artistic eye candy. Fighting-wise, Cursed Crusade looks amazing with a huge number of finely choreographed attacks, combos and fatalities that it's almost impossible to remember them all by heart. The First Templar has a single 3-swings combo that you will be doing over and over again for hours of the entire campaign. If anything, Knights of the Temple II would be a worthy recommendation. It looks good, it plays good and it actually is an RPG game, unlike any other 3rd-person Templar-inspired title.
@@HexenStar Well, First Templar also has fatalities, and as you learn new skills over the course of the game, you learn new combos and abilities. Of course combat system in The Cursed Crusade is better as it's more visceral and also varied as you can use many different weapons. But First Templar is not just centered on fighting. It has many levels which are stealthy or have you solving puzzles in dungeons. I enjoyed both games for what they are.
Thank you for the video! Can you include The First Templar in one such video?
I talked about The First Templar in part 2 of the video. If you're interested, here's the link - kzhead.info/sun/qNKAaNllanyolI0/bejne.html
@@Image_Game Oh, sorry. I have not watched it. I am new to the channel. Will check it out soon. Thank you!
Bound by Flame - decent game as is but IMO best main menu theme of all time.
I actually still have my copy of Arx Fatalis on pc :D
i remember play E.Y.E divine cybermancy with my home girl years ago its fun single player but nest with a friend
I'm surprised that Ultima and Fable did not make your list.
MIssed a few I thought surely would have been named. But it does not look like we go back far enough in time.
Este video me ha costado 6€ me he pillado dos de los que enseñas en el mismo, ahora queda probarlos, en steam estén en "muy positivas" así que me fio del criterio de la gente ;D
