    • Matthew Burger i don’t think so. Of course, they weren’t great, but they werent a disaster, especially because there was so much effort and hard work put into it that you can notice the greatness within the movie. The reason no remake/reboot will work is probably because the Hobbit movies are part of the universe of the Lord of the Rings movies. And since those movies then are naturally held together by the same vision of Peter Jackson, its gonna be hard to get those movies made with success. Not to mention copy right problems.

  • I am also quite sad that when discussing Thranduil's badassery no one mentioned the fact that he's the only Elven ruler that does not possess a ring. That's why he's KING and not some Lord. He's held off the darkness on the Greenwood for so long with only his own resources and no fancy rings that can make magical river borders that sweep off your enemies when you will it.

  • Somebody needs to make a movie about Thranduil's early years, quick while Lee Pace is still young.

    @Katya_Lastochka@Katya_Lastochka3 жыл бұрын
    • Well Thranduil will be in the Amazon show, although how much of him we see depends on what they consider important. After that, the obvious next adaptations would be either a movie/show about the fall of Arnor (which they’ve apparently decided Thranduil was an active part of), or the Children of Húrin. The latter movie would show us young Thranduil, albeit with none of the self-assured sophistication that we see in The Hobbit movies. To connect the audience to the story more easily though, I could perhaps see them also having Thranduil be the narrator: telling the story to a very young Legolas. After all, Legolas in LotR is similar in many ways to Beleg Cúthalion: one of the heroes of The Children of Húrin. His father would have actually known Beleg and Túrin, and perhaps even witnessed much of the story. Certainly in any case, he would know the story well: because it was Daeron, the minstrel of Doriath, who wrote the story.

      @bres9458@bres94583 жыл бұрын
    • Except for the fact that he's not actually single. Elves don't actually "die" in the sense that humans do. When they are killed in Middle Earth, they are reborn in the Undying Lands beyond the western sea. It's why elves don't take second partners, because there's always the chance of one day being reunited with them, even if they have to wait thousands of years for that to happen. And here's what this also means. At the beginning of the Fourth Age, when all the elves, including Thranduil, eventually leave Middle Earth by sailing across the western sea, they all get to be reunited with their fallen loved ones who reside in Valinor. So basically, Thranduil gets to be with his wife again, and they can all live there happily until the end of days. How do I know all of this? Well, my mother is a fan of Tolkiens works. She's also read The Silmarillion, so she's familiar with all the lore behind the elves, and she's told me about it before. But yeah, I guess my point is... sorry ladies, Thranduil is still a taken man. And a faithful one at that.

  • I was so disappointed that the real reasons for Thranduil's obsession with the gems never really came through in the movie because of all the cutting they did. Not one mention of his wife in association with the gems came up in the movie. As a result, many people of the audience thought he went to war because he was so materialistic.

    @cuthigh1917@cuthigh19178 жыл бұрын
    • yup..me too..i was very disappointed with the deleted scenes about his wife's gems.

      @chelee6828@chelee68288 жыл бұрын
    • +Kalkidan Woldetsadik I didn't really think that he went to war because of being materialistic but because just like the dwarves he wanted to regain something that carried a great importance to him and his people. He does state that and we do see that he really cares for his realm (or at I felt so) so it seemed to me an honorable thing to do even though I failed to see how these gems could be of any benefit to him. But even that reason felt quite, as Thranduil would put it, "prosaic", and besides being so struck with his persona, I really wasn't able to appreciate his motivation. I'd heard that his wife was never mentioned in the books so I obviously couldn't imagine they had intended to give him such a backstory. It was only after I watched this video and realized that something else, far purer and personal, was meant to be the driving force behind his actions, I could finally connect with this character.

    • @Elleth Andoiel It's such an amazing expert setup, that much is obvious. It's so realistic that I actually nearly thought that the long white hair was also the actors "REAL" hair, in real life. :p And the same with Legolas actor too. I nearly thought it was also his actual, real hair in real life. :p It's just because it's so clever again..... such a professional setup with the costumes e.t.c that makes everything look so realistic, and in this way, it has a tendency to fool and surprise the mind. (at least mine) Another element of surprise I feel, is the use of *"Green Screen."* You can see it in the background here at "9:30." I almost forgot that they still used these things in films. Again, it's so amazing.... such a professional setup. I actually thought these actors were ACTUALLY.... REALLY... in these ACTUAL PLACES. :p I didn't realize before that all/ most of the scenes were acted out in a studio. (hence the green screen) But the other thing that covers this up so amazingly well, (in a filming studio) is the clever use of artificial lighting and outdoor items like bushes, trees and rocks e.t.c. It is truly amazing, all these ideas they come up with. So clever indeed. :)

  • I was quite surprised to see Lee Pace is actually so down to earth and he was building props for the movie. He did such an amazing job as Thranduil being so fabulous and so arrogant that it comes as a shock to see how completely different he is. Love his caterpillar eyebrows!!! and definitely this time, the dad is hotter than the son. BTW I was extremely shocked that many many people HATE the addition of Taurel to the movies, since she doesn't exist in the book. They also hate one of my favorite parts of the movie, where Thranduil tells her that it hurt so much because her love was real. I mean, how can you hate that? that's mho.

    @preciousthing101@preciousthing1013 жыл бұрын
    • People hate that scene because they consider the relationship between Tauriel and Killi an impossible travesty so to them, the idea that a character like Thranduil, who had a long-term "legitimate/books accurate" relationship, could relate to Tauriel, who fell for someone she "in the book universe" never would and whom she knew only a few weeks/ a month top, is ridiculous and preposterous. Not my opinion but hey, quite popular. But, I was also surprised how much many people hate Tauriel because honestly, her inclusion makes a lot of sense, after all, it's not the 90's anymore and unlike the dwarrowdam, she-elves aren't rare so having one as a background character is 100% realistic and one would have thought people like realism when it comes to fictional worlds. Now, I get many were bothered by her relationship with Killi and also the romantic tension with Legolas, I can see that if she'd been just Legolas' friend/Thranduil's protégé she might've been more well-liked but, that still didn't warrant all the hate and people asking for cutting her character completely.

      @baseliacaliga425@baseliacaliga4253 жыл бұрын
    • @@baseliacaliga425 I really wish people wouldn't get so bent out of shape by fan fiction ... And the impossible relationship just was well done ... especially if you've seen some of the silliness in the appendices with the dwarf character. It's not canon, but it's not entirely out of the realm of strange things happen in times of change. And that scene between Thranduil and Tauriel after she'd confronted him earlier ... It hurts. And it's perfect.

      @omegatired@omegatired Жыл бұрын
    • The people in this thread are absolutely deranged for liking her character and the absurdity of her liking Kili. Not to mention the ridiculousness of her wanting that dwarf over Legolas, a most handsome son of a king who adores her. The actress herself (Evangeline) was pissed off by the love triangle trope. When she accepted the part, she made them promise that they weren’t going to insert a love triangle with her character, yet sure enough the studio execs ended up demanding just that. Not to mention that it was clearly done to replicate the Aragorn/Eowyn/Arwen love triangle in the LOTR trilogy, but that one was at least well done, because Arwen was willing to give up her immortality for a heroic king that she had known for a long time (Aragorn was raised in Rivendell for some time because he was orphaned), and Aragorn would never even consider giving Eowyn the time of day because his heart was only for Arwen. Moreover, Aragorn loved Arwen so much that he was willing to give her up because he didn’t want her to lose her precious immortality. That’s legit love. The character of Tauriel is utterly ridiculous, and the writing of her and Kili was beyond cringe, shallow, baseless, and gross. Absolutely terrible writing, and terrible lines.

I had such a damn crush on him, yet hoping one day to get over him, otherwise I might get burnt. Guess what? I never did. Sassy. Alluring. Tasty. Too f*ckin good to be real. Such an inspiration... This perfect creature holds me gracefully in his strong arms... only in my dreams. Too sad I can never have him...

As they did with Legolas, they'll make up some new story with Thranduil/Lee Pace 'cause he's got so many fangirls. I just hope they won't come up with some other bs like that Tauriel/Kili thing. And they better hurry up since the guy is not getting younger. 😜

  • one of the things i liked about five armies is seeing the real Thranduil, this broken Elven King who lost the love of his life and became so obsessed with the white gems that he utterly destroyed not only his own life but his son by pushing him away. the utter shock when Gandalf mentions to Thranduil that his wife left another gift, gift of a son and ask what Thranduil would cherish most the Elven King gives Gandalf this look of horror almost like saying that how dare you accuse me of not loving my son and that was when Thranduil realized what he had become, he had become just as greedy and arrogant as the dwarves who in the end most were actually just normal people trying to live their lives

His character development is the best. How he changes a lot but yet is still the same intimidating, fabulous king from before. He, like Loki, needs a movie all to himself.

      @Razshagaul@Razshagaul7 жыл бұрын
    • Actually as a sword enthusiast, dual wielding is not practical. This is my time to show how fun I am at parties. It looks cool but you are better with just one sword. Sword and shield is the best combination for sword fighting. The only way dual wielding is practical is if you have a sword and a dagger, you use your dagger to parry and your sword to riposte. Longer than a dagger it gets in your way. Capes or cloaks are also good if you know how to use them. You grab your cloak with your off hand and try to catch your opponent with it. If you have your cloak just hanging without grabbing it then it can get on your way. Here is an example of cloak being used in combat /watch?v=EOJW-F2BKZo
