How to bend rebar into chain links

My 'State of the Art' for bending rebar into rings...These rings are so neat... after the huge response to my How To Bend Rebar into Rings, Fast, I decided to try making chain. So I needed a tighter circle, and went for steel pipe as the pillar to bend it around. So simple - only need a strong vise, a six inch length of pipe for the pillar and a three foot one for the lever....

  • You need to respect a man who metal works in a sports jacket.😁

  • You can never get enough of that KIWI knowledge. The accent doesn't hurt.

  • Can you imagine the kids nowadays replacing gentlemen like this? And if they did would they be wearing a suit jacket? Different times ahead for sure! Props to you Sir!

  • How interesting. I would have thought you would need to get the rebar hot, but no, it bent easily & made a lovely chain. Thanks for sharing!

  • Watching you bend the rings to meet let's one know you know just the tention and distance only known to someone in tune with his craft. No doubt this goes into all areas of the medium that you've chosen. Don't let go. Some watch and even less act.

  • Very nice. I think it would go a little easier if you keep the lever-pipe a little further out on the rebar, so it's not riding on the vertical fulcrum-pipe.

    • Yes perhaps, it's just that too far out and it tends to make a bigger diameter coil... I think!
