Raiden is smacking him around one second, but the minute he tells his dream he suddenly manhandles Raiden like it's nothing. The pure power of passion towards his goals turns Armstrong from a politician to a weapon that can surpass metal gear.

This is why Raiden loses to Sam at the beginning of the game, but once he admits to himself that he kills his enemies simply because he enjoys it and not because of his shaky belief in “justice” or “protecting the weak”, he starts mopping the floor with Desperado and Armstrong.

Really, I think he was mainly thinking of anyone who needs a social safety net in order to survive. While he never said anything explicitly bigoted, or began preaching the prosperity gospel, it really felt like he was going to do at least one of either at any moment, because this general Contempt For The Weak felt all too familiar to me. • Well, in the context of MGR Technically Raiden and Armstrong's ideologies are similar for the most part. It's their definition of the weak that arguably causes the most issues when it comes to Armstrong's plan. Raiden is "The protector of the Weak" Who believes in protecting those who can't defend themselves or don't have any means to from those stronger than them. Armstrong's idea of the weak are people who never earned anything and were given most of what they possess (most notably politicians) and he believes that the Strong are those who have fought and survived to earn their keep not strictly the physically strong. This is why Armstrong does want Raiden on his side as he sees Raiden being his textbook definition of a strong individual as he put it "Through sheer force of will and with your own two hands, you took back your life". Raiden's misunderstanding of Armstrong's definition of the weak caused the conflict. And of course the abduction of poor children to use their brains to make soldiers, but that's a whole other topic.

    • @@i_i8924 Not actually. When Armstrong refers to killing for what they believe in he doesn't mean it like that. He means that no American will have to fight a dishonest war. Less Vietnam wars and more just ones likes WW2. American soldiers wont die and bleed so that some corporation can access oil reserves. They'll willingly risk death because that country attacked America first clearly and aggressively. The weak that would be purged are those same people who bow down to international corporations and put profit before morality. Armstrong wants the morally strong to thrive, not the physically. He wants politicians to enact laws because they genuinely think they're good, not because some corporation donated to his campaign. He wants to end PMCs because he believes that people should only kill if they believe its morally right. Not because they want money. In his new America, Morality would trump profit, and real politics would be decried as an excuse for their lack of will.
