My oldest cat lived to be 22; I got her when I was 7 and she died when I was 28. Throughout her life my dad would quietly grump and complain about her, asking when she was gonna kick the bucket and we could stop wasting money feeding her. Every night though while he watched t.v, she would come and snuggle and rub her face on his feet and he would give her little bits of whatever he was eating. The day she died, I caught him in his shop sobbing as he built what would become her little casket and a cross for her grave. I've never seen my dad cry like he did that day and probably never will again. He still doesn't like to talk about her as he starts to tear up. Dad's always act tough because they think they need to, but a lot of them really are softies at heart ❤

When I was in my late teens, I lived in a basement suite with my parents, an elderly cat, and 2 dogs. The landlords' cat had kittens, and they gave me one for my birthday. My dad said no, and my mom stayed out of it. I started buying things fir when kitty was old enough to leave his mother, but I was secretly afraid my dad would put his foot down. Once when I brought the kitten in for a visit (I started doing that, very briefly at first, when he was about 3 weeks) I had to go get something and left him with my dad. When I came back in the room, my dad didn't hear me, and I caught him talking baby talk to the kitten, and referring to himself as daddy. Fast forward a few years, this kitten was the only pet left. I got a promotion at work and got my own apartment. I originally looked at places that didn't allow pets, but my dad didn't like any of them. Not that it mattered, but I didn't want an unsafe neighbourhood either...anyhow, he also started in on how it wasn't fair to my cat for it to be home alone all day. And if I insisted on moving, the cat could stay. I found an apartment that didn't allow pets, and that my dad was fine with, shocker. So my cat stayed with them the rest of his life. I told people I lost the custody battle.

For those of you who are actually confused, dads love dogs. Dads want dogs. What dads hate is we are the ones who have to pick up the poop, fix them when they are hurt and put them down when the time comes. We love deep and care too much. Dads do what needs to get done. Dads do what no one else will do. That’s why we “don’t want” new doggy’s. A new puppy reminds us of the old ones. It reminds us of how fragile life is. Respect fatherhood!

Seriously though, who hugs their parents after they reach 15? Not many people. It's just not done, unless it's at the airport or graduation or something. I mean, there are the touchy-feely types that hug too often in general but when you are an adult you show love in different ways. Washing the dishes at your parents' house without being told, offering a ride to the doctor, asking after their wellbeing. Remembering their birthdays. Dogs are different though as they are eternal kids and you can hug them whenever you want without feeling awkward.

I can only speak for myself, but a big part of why I am one of these dads is because you feel a tremendous amount of responsibility to protect and nurture another life , whether man or pet. Im not sure how a lot of households are but my children’s and wife’s pets somehow are only taken care of by me and it just takes a toll on you. I love all our dogs (black shepherd, husky and dauchsand) but sometimes I just don’t have the energy for them after work house life and more. Thank you letting me vent

One other thing I learned is Hispanic dad's who "don't want dogs" go out of their way to show so much love and do extra things (like build a dog house or steps) for their dogs. I never believe any Hispanic person who says they don't like dogs. Yes you do! Why are you lying? You are going to show that animal more love than anyone else.

So true, I’ve agreed with a heavy heart that it would be best if I don’t have another cat as my sister can’t bear the pain and is afraid for my health, she sees me when they have to be put to sleep. This is my brother. My sister wanted a little dog so we found a lady that needed to rehome her shitzu Maltese mix. My sister turns out she really doesn’t like dogs. We already knew she didn’t like dogs, cause we have one already, but it’s really annoying cause she doesn’t want the dog near her even though she was the one who wanted the dog in the first place, but my brother who just doesn’t really like animals in general LOVES that dog. This reminds me of my bonus father (my mom's husband); he didn't want to get a puppy either. However, that all changed when he and my mom decided to go and "just have a look" at some shih tzu havanese mix puppies. The tiniest puppy, or runt of the litter, really caught their eye. He was quiet, sweet and well-behaved, and made them fall head-over-heels in love with him (BTW that little runt tricked them; his cheeky personality came out after he came home *lol*). They bought him right then and there - keep in mind, they were just going to LOOK... we had nothing at home for a dog. I still laugh to myself sometimes when I think about the near 2 meter tall, broad shouldered man who absolutely didn't want a dog, is now a doting dog dad, who loves that little dog like a son. I hope to do this to/with my boyfriend in the future... wish me luck

@@patheticmortal373 Well, in Denmark we have different ways of addressing our parents' partners; step-parent, bonus parent, or parent's partner. There's really no right or wrong way to say it, it all depends on what the individual feels most comfortable using. Personally, I don't like calling my parents' partners for step-parent, because it kinda makes it sound like they "take the place of my actual parent" - it also doesn't help that it kinda has an "evil" ring to it.

He doesn't like doggy kisses, but he has a multi step feeding routine they go through (pup performs different commands, and if DH is sick and just plops the food down, poor dog is like 'Wah?'). He has long chats with our pup while the duggo gives him back up on his house & yard chores and most importantly, DH was the one who immediately told the Vet we will do everything possible for our boy to live a long, healthy life when he was diagnosed with diabetes & Cushings a few months ago. Most times, it's not that they don't like dogs. It's that they don't like the thought of having to take care of it.
A hidden truth is that inside many of the "I don't want a dog" opinions, there was once the pain of having to say goodbye to one.
Beautifully said.

Abandonment issues
I was like that when my dogs died. It hurts I miss them but I know they are in a happy place.
I fully believe that one of these dads has an office job and if the kids ever visit they’ll see framed pictures of the dog he “didn’t want”. No pictures of the kids. Just the dog.
That’s my dad, three pictures of the dog not a one of his two kids. But I probably would have done the same.

Behind a "I don't want a dog", there is generally a furry friend who is no longer there and a gap that is very difficult to fill (So many do not want to go through the same with a new loss)
So true. The pain of losing a furry friend is really unbearable.🥺
True, it happened with my brother. He was so against the idea of me and my mom getting a Puppy because of how hard it was for him the lost of our previous lovely girl (R. I. P Lola) but we got the puppy behind his back and he met him and now he is the happiest puppy uncle ever, he gave the puff in his room for our puppy to sleep, even bought him toys
Exactly, I'm one of those, but now I adopted a dog... My God, I'm going to suffer bad when this pal passes away.
I know my cat spike passed a year or two ago my mom ask own why don’t you get another, he was a great black cat who gave me 14 good years I took him for granted lots and he spent he’s last few days with me on my bedroom😇🥲 love you spike.
This is why my mom wouldn't let me have a pet growing up. She had lost so many pets she was heartbroken. I didnt get my first pet until I was 25. She still wont get a pet even though she is retired and lives alone now.
"Mom,dad, can I have a dog?" "No" *2 months later* "We bough nuggets for Spike, not you" lol
Are we siblings? Parents treat the pet they didn't want like their actual grandchild lol
My parents are more likely to say bye to the dog than to me when they leave the house lmao
My mom nearly had me convinced she didn't like my dog. That is until the afternoon while she was driving she stopped at the drive thru, because there wasn't enough time to eat, ordered a "puppy patty" and small fry, paid, and then pulled far enough forward so they could hand the food directly to my dog. I was dumbfounded. She looked me in the face and said "Bailey wanted a small snack."
4 years ago my grandpa said he didn't want a dog. Now he has2 Siberian Huskies. 😭
Lol tell me about it, same here when we got the dog my mum "didn't want". One time we were out shopping and she bought bed sheets and I was like oh thanks mum thinking it was for me, then she was like no that's for Sky not you 😂😂
Dad: NO DOG!!! Dad after 1 week: YOUR DOG!!! Dad after 1 month: Our dog. Dad after 2 months: My dog.
Reminds me of a buddy of mine when we went to a party, a small dog tried getting his attention. His first reaction was, quite verbally, "Go away dog, you're not my friend". About 10 minutes later the dog was in his lap receiving maximum petting.
The dog knew who needed him the most.
Lol. I love dogs so if I had to get one I would love it...but I don't actually want to take care of a dog if I don't have to.
There has to be a psychological reason why virtually everybody, even renowned Mass murderers and serial killers, all had a dog they loved.
@@emzkoe3904 EXACTLY my feeling. I guess we're stuck living out our fantasy through videos like this.

All the lives I led I had pets and a lot of them but each and everyone of them recognized me and knew all their names. What a very vivid dream.

I have all my animals ashes in the lounge with me now.
Quick get another to heal your heart.
The guy who made a step for his dog, then showed him how to use it is so cute. Because dogs kinda see us as part of their "pack," and will often mimick us to learn. So he really was like, "Oh, like this?"
Right 😻😻😻 it was the cutest 😺😺😺❤️❤️❤️❤️
The last guy was just like my dad. Didn't want a dog, had lost his dog years ago. I had this tiny, weird, grossly obese dog waddle into my college building one day. (We suspect an elderly owner who's family tossed him out) After posting his pic at Wal-Mart and at all the shelters with no callers, I plotted with my mom for them to visit. He took one look at the dog and beelined to him. They were inseparable for the next 12 years.
What a beautiful story 😍

Cats and dogs deserve to live up to 30 years and nothing less
Malteser are kind of rats, aren’t they?
That's the reason I don't want another dog and got alittle upset when my wife decided I do want another one and like c'mon man if we get another dog you think I'm gonna not love it to bits but still it hurts man
My dad: If you're getting a dog, it's sleeping outside. Also my dad (seeing her sleeping in her bed, in my room, where she's slept since day one, never outside): You sure she has enough blankets?
"Lemme run to the pet store tomorrow morning, maybe we can find a warmer one." 😂😂😂 I get it.
As a 16 year old boy, I completely understand these dads. I recently lost my best friend (he’s was a golden retriever) and I couldn’t stop thinking about him. The pain was too much that I couldn’t stop crying and grieving for a week (I feel a lot better now but not completely healed). Getting a dog means you have to be prepared to eventually say goodbye to your old friend. This kind of pain is something not even grown men could handle.
Wise words young man!!! Well said.....

With everything going on in the world, it's so refreshing to see grown men laughing, smiling and loving their small animal. Sweet.
Dad’s tend to be more afraid of loving something so much and then having to say goodbye to it. My dad has had 5 dogs in his life and I know he took each loss hard. He wrote a lovely 2 page poem after our 12 year old dog died 2 years ago. Never said anything out loud but he was devastated.

@@kevinvera1540 its the walking and other chores as well i imagine. I would rather throw myself of a mountain then get an dog just cause i know the hassle of having to take care of one from growing up.

@@mikshinee87 i am 33 and hug often my mom.
@@Alina-pf3ob A touchy-feely type. That's okay.
This is the type of videos that you must watch when your sad or had a rough day. Makes you smile and happy.
Yeah true! Do you own any adorable too?
@@richiegraham8599 I own a jack Russell-poodle mix
Animals are Angels, Healers. We must protect and love them ❤
5:03 His face before he even closed the bag, he knew it was about to go down. 😭🤣
Watching full grown men transform back into little kids has me tearing up 🥺
Its very easy to transform western effeminate men into everything tbh
"Dad we put a deposit on a puppy" the dad's reaction with this puppy had me laughing out loud. Needed this!
I imagine most dads who don't want a pup just understand the heartbreak from losing them
The things people don’t realize about these dads is they understand the responsibility and dedication it takes to take care of a dog and they feel at times they have too much on their plates to take that on atm. But once they lose the argument and the dog arrives they just instantly put the dedication and responsibility into it and when ya do that you truly fall in love with the dog because dogs truly reciprocate that love as well.
1:14 who can resist such loving eyes???
That fight was soooooooooo funny.he tried to take the snack bag from his dad
And he won! Pop corn galore!
I found it disturbing. Both the human and the dog need training.
@@schisandra I mean.. did you want the human to let the dog eat the plastic wrap too? And too many snacks aren't healthy for the doggie either.
@Lorem Ipsum quit being so damn dramatic. Disturbing? Really? Doesn't take much to get peoples nuts in a twist these days does it?🤦🏻♂️
@@williams268 you feel me .. damn I thought it was harmless fun
It's hard NOT TO LOVE THEM. Dogs deserve all the loving they can get. Cats too!
I never saw my dad cry growing up. He was adopted and had a very tough childhood himself. Late in his career, he had a stroke and was forced to retire from work. I bought him a cat. He gripped and complained about taking care of a pet. Unexpectedly, the cat developed cancer and we had to put it down. I drive my dad to the Veterinarian. He cried the entire road trip. I was shocked.
I really appreciate what dogs do to help guys express their loving and caring ways. A preventive anti depressant. Animals in general! ❤️😊
I'm literally crying over how small that last dog was as a puppy
me too. what kind of dog was that? do you know?
@@titan619 it's a dashund,my dashund was sizes of palm when she was pupp
Men can’t help falling in love with a dog. They may not have realized it but it’s the perfect companion for them. Doesn’t talk or make them do things, always happy to see them, excited by outdoors stuff, obsessed with food. A match made in heaven.
there is nothing stronger than the bond between Dads and the "dog they didnt want"
If a dog don't touch your heart something is wrong with you... This unconditional love is so deep and honest until their last breath in good and bad times 💝💝💝💝💝
We seriously need to think of renaming the adage of "man's best friend" to "Dad's best friend"
In 2017, my cat I had for 20 years passed away. I was devastated, he was like my son. I was kind of resentful when my roommate went and got a Chihuahua two weeks later. But she grew on me over time. I had never been a dog person. But then, she had a litter of puppies. And one just stood out. Now I have a little Chihuahua/Maltipoo named Lucy. And she's the best dog ever.
Maybe the dads claiming they don't want a pet are scared of being overly and emotionally attached to something, but it's worth the love in the end.
This is simply too pure for this planet 😭😭
Nah, it IS this planet! The media couldn’t put their negative spin on this pure video
Dad's say no to dogs to avoid a battle of attention between the wife and puppy 😂😂😂 puppy always wins🐾
My dad acted like he hated dogs for SEVENTEEN YEARS until I got my terrier mix. Now he’s saying he doesn’t want her to leave with me when I move out! I’m honestly really proud of him for loosening up enough to love this puppy.
I find it so heartwarming to see big strong men with fragile little puppies ❤
This actually made me tear up I’m so surprised!!! The pups and the big “manly” guys loving on them was such a sweet thing to see! 😅😅
These dads are very handsome. Such beautiful human beings inside and out.
This is my dad after every cat we’ve gotten, for some reason kittens just love him and even tho he starts off by saying “get away from me” they climb up him and sleep on his chest then he loves them lol. I’m surprised there not scared of him since he’s 6’6 with a Pretty demanding presence. These ones we Acctualy rescued from a bad rain storm so Maby they knew he helped them? Idk but it’s cute seeing a huge guy with little animals
So true, I’ve agreed with a heavy heart that it would be best if I don’t have another cat as my sister can’t bear the pain and is afraid for my health, she sees me when they have to be put to sleep. The last one I couldn’t get out of bed for two days or eat. But that still doesn’t stop me from wanting another one.
It’s really weird. She’s the only animal he likes.
hope she can find it within her to be a better and more responsible animal parent at the very least. happy she has people to love on her tho
@@soupafleye my sister is an okay animal parent… for cats- she’s a cat mom and will raise her cats wonderfully. Any other animal though…
I've had dogs my entire life. Hand fed and raised two litters due to mastitis and found homes for every single pup I raised for no cost. Worth every penny I spent to keep them happy and healthy. Dogs awaken the generosity in people who think they don't have it.
I was gifted a dog after I came back from Iraq... he saved my life every day. It hurt so much to say goodbye to him. Its been 3 years now and it hurts just as bad
It was never the dog they didn't want, it was the extra responsibility, but afterwards they realised it was worth every walk and poop scoop.
My dad never said no to any animal that we brought home. My mom (unfortunately) had the final say. So far he’s built two ramps for his own dog to have an easier time getting on his bed and the couch.
My dad have tears in his eyes, when we talk about my Rottweiler that passed away 8 years ago. You will never find more loyalty than from a dog. All animals are great.
1:19 is so cute I want to cry, look at how that doggy looks at his Dad omg!!
this melts my heart. Dogs and cats are like angels from above come to warm up old people and children's hearts.
This makes me miss taking naps with my Datsun. Her taking deeps breaths before she would get comfortable on my chest. No matter what shit i got from that day or my family she made me fill ok.
My pitbull, Kaiser would fall Asleep on me. Waking up to him on me is the best and most comforting feeling in the world. I saw him born. 13.5 years. Best memories ever.
@@emilyscales4507 Oh wow! Our boy is 11. Got him at 9mths after he survived parvo. That's so amazing! Long time for a big guy. We lost our first to bone cancer. Tore us up. Such sweet babies. You had a Datsun??! Did you ever consider that it might be a "Nissan" in disguise?!?🙄🙄🙄😃😃😆😆😆😂
Napping with a car sounds uncomfortable
All's I can say is, sometimes you don't know what's missing in life until you experience it!! 🐕🐈🐩😻
Awww... this is so sweet! Dads and dogs are always best friends, aren't they ? ❤🐶
Awwwww the dad who showed the pupper how to use the step stool was so cute! ❤️❤️❤️
🥰 They can’t say NO to pure unconditional Love 😄
Watching this reminds me of my dad who passed away last year , I remember when we were kids he never liked dogs , but we got one a mixed Maltese , he was the one who cleaned the dog , bathe her and feed her and it was so funny since he was not a dog lover but a good human and a great dad .
Heartwarming. Also I love that you called him your "bonus dad" lol
I was blessed growing up and having pets. Now I have been married 40 years and have always had 🐕 dogs and 🐈 cats. I love 💘 them like my own.
The Dad that made a stool for the dog to climb up the bed and crawled up to show the dog knocked me out. God bless their sweet hearts
Proof that dogs have the mighty ability to melt any heart.
This happened with my dad he’s pretty grumpy but as soon as I got a teacup apple head he fell in love at first sight and our puppy did too now she’s always in arms it’s like his baby😭❤️
Dads don't want the dog, because they know they have love it more than anything
I think all dads are hearwarming showing their soft side, but the one mexican dad who laid down in the lawn to be at same level as the dog and smiled so softly: this isnt just a human being, this is a pure soul. 🕊🧡🕊
Fr. A gentle boy inside.
This just warms my heart...Nothing can compare to the love of a dog
I loved these short videos! Heart warming!

The guy showing the dog how to use a stepper, that was 🔥😂
There's something so incredibly wholesome about dads and pets x) My dad is exactly the same haha
The love of an animal is sooo great! And the smiles of these man who loves their dogs so much are also sooo great! Adopt and do not shop because many animals are lost and deserve a good home!
😂 the one where he was fighting with the dog over the bag of chips haha 😆
I like that the dad who built the wooden step for his dog to get into bed used a sander to make sure there weren't any splinters.
I absolutely loved this video - thank you for posting. Animals are just the best aren't they? So many in this video made me laugh and also touched my heart.
Aw its lovely to see these guys loving the fur babies.
🙂 Very adorable. All so heartfelt to see. My hubby didn't want a cat......now he talks in baby talk to the cat whilst snuggling.
1:20 that’s unconditional love.
Ok, my mood has been lifted. I can go in with my day now 🥺❤️
Such a great video! My DH is a cat guy, and he has claimed in the decade we've had our Yorkie poodle mix that he still is. He only likes *our* dog. lol. That meant EVERYTHING!
Most times, it's not that they don't like dogs. It's that they don't like the thought of having to take care of it.
