  • We originally wanted to go to Paris and London this summer, but with the Olympics in June, everything in Paris was booked or super expensive. Plan B, what kind of vacation do we want? Adventure! So now we're going to Costa Rica in June and planning a multi-country Europe trip for summer of '25. Next step is to watch all your videos! We love the information and consistency. The videos were helpful in planning our Italy trip in '22, so we know we're in good hands for future travel! Thanks for all you do!

    • These days? Price. The end. Unfortunately. Like everything else, travel has become significantly more expensive post-pandemic.

  • My wife and I have our 10 year anniversary in 2026 and want to start saving for a big trip. Looking into Portugal, Italy, and even something like the Cotswolds in the UK. I think we would like a mix of chill while having the ability to experience some culture and sight seeing (natural and man made).

  • I moved to Korea nearly 15 years ago. When it came time for a vacation, I realized that I had new places a lot closer than when I live in the US. I just stood in front of a map and looked for somewhere that looked interesting. When I found Malaysia, it looked exotic, so I went there. But I stayed in the city for a whole week. A few years later, I wanted to go off the beaten path, so I went to Mongolia. I was lucky enough to have a homestay experience, and since then, I have tried to get out of the city for at least a little bit while traveling to new countries. I want to see the country as it is, and not as it appears in travel brochures.

    • You just need to pick a place and commit to booking and figuring out what to do and if it is not working out then you can move onto the next.

  • Now that we’re getting older, I’ve started looking at my list of future travel and starting to move things up the list that I think will be more strenuous (ie Portugal has moved up the list since Porto and Lisbon are so hilly).

  • My travel interests has changed as I gotten older. Today I prefer places with as few tourists as possible and even places where there are not too many people. USA is still my favorite goal.

    @wncjan@wncjanАй бұрын
    • If you're going to the USA and don't like a lot of people, I recommend the South, where I'm from, or the West, where I've been. Depending on the location, there's tons of culture and beauty. Generally, in Tennessee and Kentucky, people are extremely friendly, especially in Tennessee, and there's Celtic music and dancing, and the Appalachian Mountains. Texas has a lot of different stuff, though I haven't been there a lot. Virginia and DC have the mountains, the beach, history, museums and, except for summer, moderate climate. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia have culture. I used to live on the outskirts of Chicago. There's good pizza around there. I saw Niagara Falls in upstate New York. I live in Indiana now, and have seen one of The Great Lakes and the big dunes. Colorado in the mountains is awe-inspiring. We're regional, so where I live is a German area. In Virginia, it's a Scottish and Irish area. Texas is an Irish and German area. It depends what you want! In the West, there's a cowboy vibe in certain places. Please come and enjoy!

      @MarkBH70@MarkBH70Ай бұрын
    • Plus, you actually might want to go to New England. Someone said it's like the South, with, generally, polite and friendly people. I'd like to go one day, but I want to see it all, at least once. We Americans haven't seen everything.

  • Budget, how and how long you want to travel are important as well. A low budget limits your destinations off course. But also, do you want to fly, drive or go by train or bus to your destination and how long do you want to travel to get to your destination. Are you okay with an entire day of travelling or is two hours long enough? For how long are you going, just a weekend or a couple of weeks? And how would you like to get around at your destination?

  • I'll come with an advice coming from experience. Please my dear US friends, don't visit Europe seeking your heritage roots and claim you're 22% German/Polish/Scottish, thus you are German or whatnot. Especially if you don't speak the language and don't know the customs or know ones that are expat-exclusive. Not only will the locals just ignore you, but also you will bring a poor rep to the US citizens who actually care to do a bit of research prior to the amazing journey of finding their roots.
