  • I was a teenager in the USA and I had an Apple //gs. When my grandfather came to visit, he bought my younger brother an Amiga 500 (from the bargain bin!). While I loved my //gs, I was just amazed what a great computer the Amiga was - and the game collection was just huge. My //gs had a modem, and I spent a lot of time downloading games for Amiga, transferring (some times splitting them) them to MSDOS disks, then using the Amiga to unpack them to Amiga formatted disks and play the games. The Amiga demos were the best. I loved the european cracking and demo scene and dreamed of attending an Amiga party in Europe. You could say the amiga inspired me to move to europe. European coders were just amazing.

  • It was great to meet you and quickly show you my Uzebox. If I'd got there earlier I probably would've made it into this video. Ah well! I will make it down to the Cave soon and we can do some Uzebox content then. The Uzebox is best open source console IMO, its the only one thats managed to maintain a active user base for 15+ years so I was surprised that no-one at Kickstart had heard of it. I can't think of a more fun way to learn eletronics than build your own console and writing a Uzebox game is a great way to learn C. It's nice that you can write games in C for it as most of the 8bit (and 16bit) consoles required you write games in assembly. I look forward to Kickstart 02!

  • The Amiga was such a generational leap from anything before it. I was so fortunate to have an A500 and loved it. It was very hard for my Mother to afford such a device on instalments at the time. But I appreciated it at the time and a lot more so now, looking back. She also worked in an arcade as a book keeper back in the day. "Edmonton Machines" in north London. They supplied London and the surrounding counties. All service by a guy nicknamed "brains".

    @davidbanner9001@davidbanner900110 ай бұрын
    • Amiga was obsoleted literally in its second year. It failed as a productivity machine because it was designed around NTSC TVs with their non-existing resolutions, it failed as a game machine, because it had no RAM to speak of, the only reasonable usage for it was for music because it had a surplus 70s synthesizer chip.

  • I gave my Amiga away years ago and regret it now. I spent hours and hours on it - writing AMOS games, playing games, drawing in Deluxe Paint, playing around with Sound Tracker, etc. I guess the problem is that I've spent a lot of years since using Windows PC's and I remember just before giving away my Amiga I played a few games on it.. and it was looking very primitive. I have glanced at the emulators.. but I got bored with those quite quick. As I say the problem is - I've just got too used to modern technology. I'm glad that people are keeping the Amiga alive though.

    @jaseman@jaseman10 ай бұрын

Sadly, for my wallets’ sake I’m now looking to find an old Amiga 1200 that needs some TLC as a project to rebuild. Thanks to everyone involved putting it on and I can’t wait for next year which will be hopefully bigger and better. Oh, one last thing. • I've been watching old Computer Chronicles episodes, and something I really lament is the loss of trade shows and retail computer stores. I was on the "buy all the things from the Internet" bandwagon like everyone else, but like he said in the Checkmate interview -- you can't get across what it's like to use a product through a video. I really miss this stuff. With the DIY cottage industry that has sprung up, we're literally coming full circle, with vendors creating products that those early Comdex and CES shows would've killed for -- and they're still lustworthy today. Obsolete is a lie. Good products are good forever. Bring back the trade show! :-D

  • Those joysticks are rad. He needs to do custom arcade one sticks! That's a cool mod market.

  • This looks great. I miss my user group days and running CWCCC (Coventry and Warwickshire Commodore Computer Club) with my friends. We had lots of good times :) when it was in its heyday. The user groups are so important to have, and events like this seem excellent. I'll keep an eye out for the next one ;)

  • The clear Amiga case is awesome. I would love to know more about it in particular as well as the disk back up service. I will be trying to make contact for this great service.
