A #PorscheCayman has long been the benchmark for which all other sports cars are measured, however in 2017 Porsche replaced the Cayman with the #718Cayman and many enthusiasts weren't sold on the new turbocharged F-4 engines. That opened up an opportunity for other brands to take the crown away from Porsche and for 2020, the long-awaited revival of the #ToyotaSupra is here and it stays true to its lineage with a turbocharged straight 6-cylinder under the hood, a unique design that turns heads everywhere, and a noise from the exhaust that will surely embarrass the Cayman at your local car meet. It also happens to undercut the Porsche by as much as $50,000 depending on options.
Happy Friday guys, hope you all are staying safe and well out there. To help curb the boredom of being at home, we've spent some extra time trying new things for the long awaited Supra Vs Cayman comparison test so we hope you all enjoy the slightly altered content. Also, keep in mind, we filmed this before VA issued the "Stay Home" order. Hope you all enjoy!
Great review as always, but I'm curious if you've had a chance to drive the Supra with the windows down. I saw a guy who was driving one a few weeks ago and he said the buffeting inside the cabin with one or both windows down makes it extremely uncomfortable to do so. Given the absence of a sunroof or t-tops, it seems like the Supra's buffeting issue could turn people off, especially those who drive in areas where the climate is warmer year round.
I'm agree with the porsche cayman 718 cayman gts has launched control but the Toyota Supra GR Exhaust Sound really good with the crackles and pop
I was hoping this was a comparison between the Supra and 718 Cayman GTS 4.0.
The only thing that car carry is the badge name Toyota nothing more.
I thought you had sold your Porsche 718 Cayman GTS. What happened that you did not sell it?
The rear end of the Supra is literally the best part lmfao, can’t believe you think it’s the weakest
The Cayman rear end is ugly. Porsche had to hit it with an ugly bat so not everyone buys it over the 911. Supra looks much better.
well said
It's weak because the engine isn't there
@@romeundernero No, i love the Cayman rear, it's looks exotic
Don't like the Supra rear end. Not a fan of the Porsche rear end either (ever), but at least it's timeless (same as 911s forever). I don't know about other people but I would never buy a Supra over a Porsche. The problem with the Supra is the cabin (and interior) is too small compared to the body (flared fenders/ rear quarter panels). The wing is too small also. The Supra is fast and nimble to be sure, but the cost (overall price to performance and features) is way to high compared to other cars you can buy for the same money.
I’ve always liked Porsches but their pricing has gotten ridiculous on the Cayman/Boxster.
Leveraged that’s what made them desirable. You wouldn’t want them anymore if you see one in every driveway
You get what you pay for... buy a Toyota an get that shitty plastic interior...
Yup. you get what you pay for.. luxury + reliability... its usually either or lol
Porsche any day of the week.
One Kxng Supra is 90% BMW so you’re not getting reliability
I don’t understand all these comments over manual transmissions. All these warriors here state they love stick and will sit on one to get there hands on it but yet sales report says no one buys them. I remember a cop tell me one time how he will only buy a mustang with a stick shift. So when I asked him if he drove stick, he shook his head and told me he doesn’t know how to drive stick. Confused.
I've never driven manual. With what Porsche is doing, there's no benefit to manual.
@@JohnFromAccounting There's no benefit period. Automatic transmissions have been superior for the past like 15 years
I bought a manual 124 spider in the last few years. my brother, though, even though I raised him to drive manual sports cars, now drives automatic luxury SUVs, lol.
@@abaddon3735 manual transmissions are cheaper to manufacture and should lower the cost of a new car - even though at many dealerships that might not be the case, lol.

Hi Sofyan, been a big fan of yours for quite awhile! hope you keep up the good work.
The production of this video is top tier yowza!! Amazing commentary and super fun video to watch
That intro was great. From a theatrical stand point it was marvelous. Great shots of the cars, mold humor, and interesting question at the end to leave the audience wondering. Perfect!
Great editing, especially during the driving sections!
I feel like everyone is hating on the Supra for straying away from it's predecessor however this car is still really good. Even though the car may have BMW components, its still impressive to see a non performance brand create a car that can go against a Porsche.
I really like the Supra, don't get me wrong, but it's just about ALL BMW
It’s a Porsche vs a BMW with Toyota badges.
They didnt create it, its all made at a BMW factory in Australia, it just has the badges
The previous Z4 coupe and roadster has always competed against the Boxster and Cayman. The only reason why the GR Supra benchmarked the Cayman was because that's what BMW wanted. The Supra is a good car but not what most enthusiasts probably wanted. I'd rather have a Cayman or used Cayman S/GTS.
I know, after all that talk about BMW being the Ultimate Driving Machine
Great video! So much good content I might watch it again!
Great comparison! Thanks for fun, informative and entertaining content. Stay safe guys.

Sofyan do you remember which overlook on Skyline Drive you filmed the intro monologue section at? Thanks.

In Australia we are looking at about $100k for the Supra and about 200k for the GTS - I’m a Porsche guy, but I’d take Supra for that price anyday!
Even a similar spec 2.0ltr cayman is like 140k drive away. The Porsche mark-ups here make the Supra great value.
Ouch
Here in Europe uses Toyota Supra is crazy expencive 40.000 US $ and up, often they cost more used then they did when new... Porche is half to 1/4 the price.
Have been watching the channel from infancy (yours not mine). The production level has steadily but dramatically increased. Now, it is definitely class-leading. Keep up the awesome work.
Hey man, saw your cayman up for sale on facebook. Why are you selling and what are you moving to replace it with?
Nice review, good photography too. One point though is comparing the pricing of the higher end Cayman while there are less trim levels for the Supra. While the Cayman is more expensive at any trim level, the GTS being the higher end of the line widens the price gap leaving the S a more level comparison to the Supra. The Supra is far to much BMW for me despite some reasonably good looks.
Thanks to this video, I purchased a Supra just two days ago lol I know the 2021 is coming out in June but dealerships will price gouge those like crazy and I don’t really need the extra horsepower since I don’t really race or go track. Dealers right now are desperate due to the COVID-19 and got a great deal on a brand new Supra which only has 5 miles on the tach. MSRP was $57K and got it down to to $50K with $10K trade-in and $4K cash deposit. At the end of the day, got the car for $41K after tax, tag and titles with 8yrs/100,000 mile warranty included. It was a great day to say the least and have been enjoying the car immensely.
Thank you for sharing!! I might just go with the Supra right now as well with that price
@@fmendoza1994 not sure where you are located but there's one near me who is selling a red Supra for $46K. Check out heritagetoyotacatonsville.com

Great video, thank you so much redline!!
when the better engine comes out do you think the price will drop on the current model? also how did they increase the power? can you do the same to the current model modifying it? nice video.
$96,000 for a 4 cylinder Cayman? That's guna be a no for me dawg

Excellent review as usual! 👍
The 2020 Toyota Supra GR Exhaust Sound really good with the crackle and pop.
Malik McIntosh yeah bmw did a good job on that car
@@yamen16 Does the bmw z4 sound like the supra?
ricky sanchez They sound similar if you really focus hard on it but the Supra screams a lot more than the Z4. I definitely feel like the Supra sings in the mid range and high rpms and is totally more dramatic in terms of sound than the BMW is. Frankly, other cars that have the B58 engine sound nothing like the Supra (or even the Z4) because of them riding on a unique platform.
@@nf1369 So if I threw some aftermarket exhausts on a z4, could it sound like the Supra?
@@ricky-sanchez I've already heard a Z4 with aftermarket exhaust for some reason it does have a slight different tone to it. I guess Toyota did tune the B58 in the Supra.
i love about 30 min from skyline drive , great place to show off these cars
I loved that intro so much!
With the Cayman CarPlay, have you tried plugging the iPhone into the USB port inside the center arm rest with a OEM Apple cable? The USB port in the glove box won't do CarPlay.
The B58 has proven itself to be a tuning beast both in reliability and gains even with simple mods like a downpipe and ECU flash. And more extreme changes have netted over 600+ WHP and it has only gone up mere months after its launch.
800whp. There were some already touching over the 700whp territory and barely a month after one broke the record of 822whp on stock internals but with the fear that the rods would twist if they went any higher.
For those hating on Toyota they actually designed the cup holders on the Supra...Lol speed is overrated with this car. Get me an original car.
I'll take the Porsche over the BMW.
Great video showing the pluses and negatives of both cars. For the price difference -- gosh, I think I'll get the Supra (oh wait, already own one....;-) and its a blast to drive).

@@Ultreras I'm glad to hear it, have you made any mods or are you keeping it stock?
Great comparison job!
Could you do a comparison between the Supra 2.0 and the base Cayman 718?
The Porsche is really nice but it's hard to get past the fact that I could get the 2021 Supra (more power) and a new Tacoma 4x4 to park right next to it for about the same price.
Not here, Supra is crazy expensive used, they go up in price when used and cost more then the new price...
The Supra sound pissed off like Porsche hold my drink loll
Nice comparison. As someone that has test driven GR Supra your cabin description was very accurate, although nice felt very small and cramped. Agree Toyota should have added their steering wheel as they did with Tac. Some are the arm rest and boot plastic is Toyota as far as I’m aware and suspension and gear tuning and Chasis.
Awesome video great comparison
Just a few notes > That Cayman GTS has Sports Exhaust & will crackle & pop. He forgot to turn it on during the comparison at the beginning. That being said, I think both sound great in person. The Cayman has the better interior & seating position. The Cayman has a better transmission, hands down. That big ugly head unit on the Supra is stuck on top of the dash like a Prius, while the Cayman is integrated into the dash. The Cayman GTS has 4 modes: Sport, Sport Plus, Individual & Normal. Also, a 30 second Boost Button. The Supra has 2 modes. The Supra has fake vents everywhere & is overstyled. the Cayman has all functional styling. The Supra weighs 400lbs more than the Cayman. Cayman 0-60 is 3.6, Supra 0-60 is 4.1 even though it has more hp & torque. The Toyota is a BMW, the Porsche is a Porsche. Result, the Cayman is the better performer, better handling, faster car, but at a cost premium. If you have the money, go for the Cayman. Otherwise, the Supra is a great choice.
Or buy a used Cayman, here the Cayman cost 1/3 to 1/4 as much as a used Supra as the used Supra is crazy expensive...
Great job Sofyan! The Cayman has such pedigree but the noise, looks, and drive dynamics of the Supra are just as good if not better than the Cayman. The Toyota may be all BMW but it's one of the best BMW vehicles I've driven! The PDK & material quality are far better with the Stuttgart brand but for more money, it should be. Hope you are staying healthy out here man! Also, are you getting a Model Y?
Forrest's Auto Reviews Thanks Forrest! Saw your Supra video too, loved the burnouts and drifting ;) we’ll be announcing what we’re replacing the Cayman with this week. Stay well out there and hope to see you soon!
Really good vid boyz -- enjoyed it. I definitely like the new Supra but I'll take a used Porsche Cayman.
Where you making the cars reviews.. i mean to say which country and cities
The Cayman makes more sense as a Certified Pre-Owned. You can get a lightly used Cayman for about the same price as the new Supra and I think it makes the Cayman a much stronger choice. Then again, I am biased because that's exactly the route I went. Regardless, thanks for the comparison. I would definitely be interested to drive a new Supra at some point!
I got Porsche slightly used 50k mileage , can’t even compare it to Supra . Also I’m biased hah so far so happy with the Porsche
Slightly used to me means less than 15k miles with most of the warranty intact. Can't find a used Cayman that's costs in the 50 grand range with those things
@@anishpatel6014 Pre-Covid you could fairly easily but it’s a whole different world now in terms of pricing and availability.
Less than 15k mileage in my country a cayman you would get for around 7000-7500 US dollar. Best of luck for finding one
@@Adelextube you can't find one cheap here either..which is why it should be better than a supra and it is better. But for what a supra costs it's a great car too.
I would take a GTS 4.0 with a manual (probably as a Boxster since I love a roadster) or M2 Competition 6MT over the Supra while still not "breaking the bank" (only ~$5k more). I've driven the Supra and like the way it drives, its very good, but for a sports car, I need that third pedal and extra engagement, and the buffeting in the Supra is horrendous and I love to drive with the windows down so that ruins it for me as well.
The buffeting is terrible - but - for less than $50 you can buy little wedges that mount by the mirrors eliminating the problem. Same kind of thing they’ve used on Porsche’s
Lol it not 5k more
only 5K more ??? my ass

wait. I thought you were selling your Cayman last yr? decided to keep till your lease end?
Those are two nice German cars.
One of the 2 cars has better badge engineering.
Dead 🤣😂
-_- The Supra's engine, chassis and transmission were co-developed by Toyota AND BMW. Not just BMW. After that both manufacturers split off to make the rest of the cars. (I get the joke though)
Toyota 86 the engine was not “co-produced” with Toyota. That is a BMW engine which went through Toyota’s rigorous QandC process before putting it in the Supra. There are also BMW stamps in the engine bay and the engine itself. Please do your research before typing
Clicked like before i even watched the video.
I test drove the previous generation 981 for about an hour. I had that feeling that although I loved the flat 6 sound the handling was quite tame, refined and boring. I definitely don't think I want the flat 4 GTS and you thought that was expensive - the GTS 4.0 is astronomical. I think i'll have more fun in the tail happy supra. What other cars would you recommend that have this kind of fun, tail happy nature? How does the GR86 compare?
Gr86 is just a lot slower
He laughs harder in the Supra...I think that tells us what we need to know

Yes.
The supra is really sick looking and aggressive, while the porsche is like a handsome looking athlete
Add a big rear wing, a front lip and some side skirts and it is even more aggressive looking then the Supra, top it of by puting on a wide body kit on and it looks just amazing and totally different ... Do the same on the Supra and then it is even more badass lol ;) I do love how the Supra look with wide body kit and full styling...

Were you in Massanutten? We have a time share there. Skyline Drive is an amazing road!
One is a true sports car built on a sports car platform and offers a manual transmission. The other is a grand tourer (the Supra is not a sports car), has no heritage compared to the Mark 4 Supra, and is nothing more than a hard top BMW Z4, and only comes in an automatic. You can get the same thing for a cheaper price while being more practical by getting a BMW M240i Coupe. At least that car isn't fake vents galore.
See. People put the mk4 up as a sportscar so Toyota made the mk5 a sportscar for that reason. Plus the mk4 is just a rebodied SC300 with a engine from a aristo so u might aswell get a SC for way less than a mk4.

great video, and some may think its a major negative that it has a bmw everything but toyota knew their reputation was on the line with this one but had confidence in that b58. Im really hoping to own one in next year or so.
I wouldn't get one until toyota pushes the HP past 400, which they will do eventually. But it will drastically drop the price of the old ones, which is good.

James Barnicoat and it can’t be tuned as well
@@jamesbarnicoat4504 why is not as good fit daily driving???
Supra looks ok but still wish they went with the ft1 concept look
KiraOnii Chan They can’t. The most obvious reason is the different chassis (dimensions), but the more, less known reason (unless you know a thing or two about engineering), is that there are many regulations a vehicle must meet in so many different countries/states. One example is the the fender has to sit over the wheel. Another example is that the headlights have to be a certain height. The FT1 headlights are too low. If they redid the headlights, it would affect how the car looks, creating a domino effect on the rest of the look and destroying the aerodynamics. This is why the production cars never keep the concept cars’ look. Concept cars are sculpted with complete freedom and the stylists go to town with them (stylists do not study the regulations). Bottom line: once everyone in the company gets their 2¢ in, including air bags (smart air bags are regulated by the USA now), bumper beams, and door height requirements, the car looks completely different once it’s made “federal.”
Can you review the 2020 Kia Optima?
I disagree with the supra interior comments. It looks way more modern/ well designed than the cayman and the screen/ ac is more sleek/ easy to use. Also the audio system is very good and I’ve had no problems with audio issues after owning my own for a year. And it’s 50k cheaper. I’m biased tho.
Makes sense that the interior feels and looks cheap since it is designed for the budget market compared to the luxury badged iconic sports car that's definitely not designed with budget in mind. Supra may have luxury sport tuned innards but it was still for the 50k ish market.

I actually like the cayman 718 turbo engine with a bit high pitch unified sound there instead of cheap low popping sound that you can hear from some modded Civic in the Supra. Just my own opinion.
The trunk release situation is the same for both the Cayman and the Supra... Key fob or interior switch...
Wished toyota would add their own touches to the interior. Toyota puts their JBL sound system. Goes on to say it sounds terrible....
Tbf I don't see it working either way since Toyota already gets criticized for having old interiors in certain cars would make it any better in this.
I actually can tell you why it sounds bad. BMW pumps in a bit of engine noise through the speakers and doesn’t do the Toyota/Lexus strategy where they take the noise directly from the engine bay/intake itself. Since this car was codeveloped with the Z4, it shares that BMW quality too. If you actually disable the engine noises through the speakers, the speaker sound improves ten-fold.

Nice simulation of drone footage with what I'm assuming is a monopod. For those who don't know, it's pretty slick because if you actually use a drone, you can't speak or have any sound unless you record it after because drones are so noisy.
Except the sound you're telling us the Porsche makes everything better, but in the end "the Supra easily wins". What? And you're saying "the Porsche is almost double the price" again and again which.. 1. it isn't, because 112k are quite different to 95k and 2. you forgot to say that you can get a base 718 Cayman with some good options for 60k to 70k. So all in all I think this comparison is misleading and not thought through.
