  • DRAFTING exemplified completely. He's literally being pulled by the draft created by the wind deflector

    Joyce MyersJoyce Myers15 күн бұрын
    • @Paul Stemmet the point of the “funnel” is to negate the wind resistance. you’re right, it did help, but only as a way to negate a force of nature that would normally hamper him. it did not technically assist him in any way, the speed he achieved was purely his own muscles. also… there’s no need for a “cop” radar when speed trap devices are relatively easy to get your hands on as a civilian

      RosscoeRosscoeКүн бұрын
    • Not to take anything from what his done but you are right that funnel must of helped a little. Why not without the funnel and no car, use a cops radar to catch his speed.

      Paul StemmetPaul StemmetКүн бұрын
    • there is no drafting. the wind shield here is specifically made so he is in a normal pressure environment without the wind resistance. because he is “inside” this deflector, instead of “behind” it, there’s no low pressure effect that pulls him. it’s entirely his own muscles, just with the no wind resistance cheat turned on

      RosscoeRosscoe2 күн бұрын
    • It's a little bit different, he's entirely in the vacuum. If he had an elongated body and the rear was in a higher pressure zone than the front, he would be getting pulled or sucked forward. Instead he's entirely inside one pressure zoneso there's no "pulling" effect.

    • @Mi1287t5f I see what you mean. I agree a 103kph wind front and back would cancel out. And give the rider zero help... apart from zero wind resistance. The only force moving him is his own strength though. To determine max humanly possible speed... constantly... it's important to remove the variable of wind resistance. Because wind resistance changes based on air temp and wind speed.

      Paul GregoryPaul GregoryАй бұрын
    • @Paul Gregory but if you had 103kph wind at your back there would be zero wind resistance at your front once you hit 103kph. It is exactly the same. Your bike is feeling the resistance on its front. Thats not the same comparison.

      Mi1287t5fMi1287t5f2 ай бұрын
    • @Mi1287t5f That's ridiculous! 😂 The screen at the front simply prevents the air at the front from hitting him at 103kmh. There is NO wind from the back. If there was an effect where the wind pushed him from behind at 103kmh.. he would not have needed to skate under his own energy. 🤔. Likewise, when I ride my motorbike at 103kmh... and crouch behind the screen... there is also no wind pushing me behind either!!

They dont go and inspect miles and miles of ice for any objects at all for this. They probably go over the ice to make sure any larger objects are cleared but if he fell, he would more than likely get cut up really bad by tiny imperfections in the ice.

    • @Craig Decreased resistance has a place in training. In swimming, we sometimes have people pull us or use fins to "get a feel" for moving at higher speeds than we're used to. The way the muscles engage, the timing, etc. feels different at different speeds. So getting used to the feeling of higher speeds can also have an impact on attaining those goals

    • Without the shield, once you reach like 50km/h or so half of the energy you spend is actually counteracting air resistance, it would be much worse at 100km/h, so yeah it really does :c

  • The problem here is the wind shroud. It blocks resistance, so the speed record is skewed. Not to mention, I wonder if that shroud creates a back draft that actually helps propel the skier forward faster? 🤔

    • @Smokkedandslammed well, it is its own category of record I suppose. It's just finding the fastest possible speed an ice skater can travel over ice on human power alone, but with external assistances. No different to weightlifters natural or steroid users etc. You are right though it does feel a little cheap, but it's an interesting answer to a question though. Albeit a question very few people have asked or care to know. But here we are 🤷
