How-to Make Your Own Old School Turkey Call! - Easy Homemade Wild Turkey Call | SMART Tips & Tricks
This week on SMART Tips and Tricks, Walt Ingram teaches viewers how to make a simple and effective wild turkey call.
The call is made from a 35mm film cannister, where the lid is cut into a half moon shape and fourteen to seventeen holes are drilled in the bottom. Latex gloves are used for the reed, which can be adjusted by pressing on splits in the sides of the call.
The call is great for locating turkeys from a long distance away but can also be used to call them in close due to its adjustable volume.

It is a great feeling to call a turkey up with a call you made yourself. I was fortunate enough to find an unfortunate hen on the side of the road years ago. I don’t have any call that sounds any better than that wingbone, and I don’t leave home without it.

I love calling turkeys with homemade calls. I’ve made wing bones and striker calls with turtle shells and corn cob strikers. One of my favorites is a turtle shell call I made with a copper striker plate that has a really raspy sound. Have you tried these calls with multiple pieces of latex and trimmed notches to alter the sound?

Yup we know a few fellas who use a pill bottle over a film canister - might be easier to find those these days!
