Wesley So demolishes Hikaru Nakamura with instructive play in the Queen's Gambit Declined

2024 ж. 13 Мам.

Hikaru Nakamura opened the game with 1.d4 and Wesley So went for the solid 1...d5 leading to the Queen's Gambit Declined! It seemed like a slow and steady battle, but all of a sudden Wesley So came up with some amazing moves to simply positionally outplay Hikaru! How did he do it? How did Wesley So manage to outplay such a strong opponent? Check out this game from the Tata Steel Chess India Rapid 2022 along with the commentary by IM Sagar Shah.

    • @@Not-You-Tuber “This is basic communication style” makes it OK to assert that the King of all games is NOT a game. Your claim that art is bigger than chess just means that you like the nebulous notion of art as much as chess players like the concreteness and fairness of chess. In your world most anything can be labeled as “art”. Even your handle NotKZheadr shows how distorted your sense of language is as you freely use KZhead while claiming you don’t. No doubt very far to the left on political spectrum. I am happy that art makes you happy

    • Often if one player offers their hand first they're resigning. However, if they both sort of look at each other than shake hands it's almost always a draw agreement. No concrete rules in the way the hands are shaken, more of a tacit understanding that the position is a draw.

    • When it's a draw, one person usually offers it. So you can look out for someone's lips moving if they're the one offering the draw. The opponent usually nods in this case. If it's a resignation, the person who is losing will usually offer up their hand first.

      @GuitarGuy190@GuitarGuy190 Жыл бұрын

    • Apart from body language showing the difference between giving up or agreement, it's mostly about the position. These high level players are aware of the state at all times, so if an offer is made in a losing position, it's understood as a resignation. Likewise, if the position is equal and the game is not progressing, it's clearly a draw.

Then if hikaru captures with a pawn, same scenario as ive stated above. And if hikaru captures the bishop via a rook. Then, wesley will just push the pawn to a2. Even if hikaru didn't capture with a rook and decide to prevent the pawn from promoting. At the end, wesley still has a major advantage having two major pieces.
