To those people who aren't aware, Avril is a huge star in Japan. She is so big to the point where she has to record Girlfriend in Japanese. She also sang anime openings in one of One Piece movies and Annie Leonhart's character design from attack on titan was also inspired by her. She is also the first western artist in Japanese history to have three albums in a row to sell over a million copies in Japan. Avril has also lived in Japan for a few years, can speak little Japanese, and has multiple clothing line store in Japan. It make sense why Avril made Hello Kitty (and the fact that her directors, producers, etc. are all Japanese while making this vid) because her career wouldn't be as big as she is now without the help of her Japanese fans, hence I doubt she made Hello Kitty out of mockery.

Why do people find this offensive? From what I hear Japan had very positive reactions to this music video! It's seems the only people that aren't offended though are mostly the Japanese themselves. It's seem like people just love finding things offensive even when they either weren't supposed to be or just aren't in general. I'm just saying that the Japanese can determine whether something is offensive to them or not without the help of everyone else. If they don't find it insulting then you probably shouldn't either.
