This video showcases the coolest Norfolk Southern trains we recorded between 2014 and 2015. Most of the footage was captured along The Chicago Line, the NS "superhighway" between Cleveland, Ohio, and Chicago, Illinois.

  • The origins of NS begin on January 20, 1870 when the Elizabeth City & Norfolk Railroad was chartered to complete a line running from Berkley, Virginia

    • Not for present-day NS. That was the regional carrier which Southern Railway absorbed in the 1970s.

  • I hate that the NS office car special doesn’t utilize the F units anymore, that truly had the southern heritage feel to it when you spotted this train. However, I’m glad the units found good homes and weren’t scrapped

    • Hopefully in the future they will get replacements done up as it surely was a loss of the f7s a and b’s

  • 3:48:23 You were lucky to have gone to see this. I was in school at the time this happened and to know those F Units are gone and the OCS will never run that way again...

  • Man, this time on NS was so cool. Doesn't beat the 2000s and 2010s when CR power was still around, but the era of new rebuilds and old soldiers on every train imaginable (roughly 2014 to 2019) was such a great time to be an NS railfan...all that is gone. Don't know why they got rid of all their SD60Ms/Is and SD70Ms when they could have just rebuilt them like they did the standard cab ones.

  • Are the office and employee cars used for those respextiv classes and not open to the general public? Also, what the road crossing where Dull Lumber used to be (it's just an interesting name)?

  • Marvelous video. Norfolk Southern is, of course, a giant in American railroad history as well as today. Is anyone else out there in railroad land disappointed that N.S. has such bland and boring, if not downright ugly, paint/livery on their locomotives? Again, however, this is a great video. This took lots and lots of time, video skill, audio skill and editing skill- plus a thorough knowledge of Norfolk Southern both in the past and in the present. Thank you for what is truly a railroad work of art.

  • Theres no better sounds than a long fast moving train going over jointed rails. Unless your lucky enough to have both lines banging thier balance beams together

    • they're still on the roster! NS just uses significantly less cool power to run their OCS, seemingly whatever clean units they have on hand

  • I know it doesn’t mean much, but I actually have an HO scale model of one of the NS OCS f9ph locomotives. I’ve been considering upgrading it to dcc and sound for the past year and a half, but I just have more important projects on my hands.
