@@Suninrags I dont know for shore in the game. But in the actual myth sisyphus is the one who trapped thanatos in a box with chains that thanatos could not break, so that sisyphus could live forever. So it would make sence for thanatos to have a grudge or at least a mild distastes for sisyphus being released. Also with his punishments of pushing the bolder (or bouldy in this case) is to represent his goal to escape death. Something that is difficult yet useless.

Sisyphus is certainly one of the more odder characters here, while a lot of the gods and other characters are played very straight in their depictions with only the nessisary alterations made Sisyphus is seemingly entierly different from his mythical counterpart, the original Sisyphus was a trickster and in some versions a murderer who'd kill his houseguests and take their stuff. The original Sisyphus was sentanced to death by Thanatos because he was such a menace to society and that's how he got to magically chain him or put him in a box depending on the version, and while I know the game eludes to these events when Than visits Sisyphus I honestly can't imagine this Sisyphus murdering house guests and taking their stuff...

The story I heard is that he trapped Death (Thanatos) in a chest to avoid dying. When Thanatos was freed, he was sentence to eternal torment for his hubris. He might have done some awful things, but he wasn't particularly cruel for his era.

@@soulnestahn114 no , it was cruel. He killes guests of his house and raided their dead bodies , breaking the custom of hospitality , which is sacred. However , the gods did nothing , because such actions were made against mortals and were bound for him to be punished by mortals....but Sysiphus tricked and locked Thanatos , and with that , chaos happened to the mortal realm , as everyone were deathless , while he still breaks customs left and right for selfish reasons. It didn't helped that he escaped a second time , making that chaos to happen twice. In that sense , Sysiphus well deserves his punishment , he even acknowledge that.

@@phantasosxgames8488 Wait, I thought the whole mess with Sisyphus started because he tattled on Zeus to the river god Asopus after witnessing the big guy get up to his usual Zeus on the Loose shenanigans on said river god's daughter and kidnapped her, in exchange for having Asopus' river branch out and flow close to his kingdom (making it wealthy), which made Zeus angry and sic Thanatos on him. This first time Sisyphus "died", he instead tricked and bound Thanatos in his own chains, keeping Sisyphus, and all people for that matter, from dying until Ares freed him. The second time Sisyphus "died", he arranged prior for his wife to leave his funeral rites unprepared. Coming to the underworld more like a beggar than the king he was, Sisyphus implored to its queen Persephone to allow him, as a king, to go back for one mortal day to set things right. She agreed, but Sisyphus took her generosity for granted and escaped, not for a day, but for many years, entering into old age before Thanatos, quite wary of the king who bested him twice prior, and with the personal backing of Zeus no less, managed to properly drag him to Hades' realm. Then he got punished with the boulder.

After you have talked to Sisyphus a number of times and possibly given him enough gifts. I am unsure how many exactly, but after he starts calling Bouldy by name, you should check if you can talk to the boulder.

He was a king that would murder his guests in their sleep to steal their shit. When the gods eventually tried to punish him he tricked thanatos and had him locked away for a while, nobody could die during this time so human society went a bit crazy.

@@Suninrags I dont know for shore in the game. But in the actual myth sisyphus is the one who trapped thanatos in a box with chains that thanatos could not break, so that sisyphus could live forever. So it would make sence for thanatos to have a grudge or at least a mild distastes for sisyphus being released. Also with his punishments of pushing the bolder (or bouldy in this case) is to represent his goal to escape death. Something that is difficult yet useless.

The game doesn't remove the promp for ambrosia for Bouldy, so I kept giving it to him past this point, thinking he would do something more like move out of the way or something but no. I wasted so many ambrosia bottles on this thirsty rock...
What if in Hades 2, as Melinoe is trying to get into the House of Hades, she passes by a familiar hall with a giant rock, with an eroded smile, split in half. And chains of a shade long free of his torment, but he isn't there anymore.

Sisyphus is certainly one of the more odder characters here, while a lot of the gods and other characters are played very straight in their depictions with only the nessisary alterations made Sisyphus is seemingly entierly different from his mythical counterpart, the original Sisyphus was a trickster and in some versions a murderer who'd kill his houseguests and take their stuff. The original Sisyphus was sentanced to death by Thanatos because he was such a menace to society and that's how he got to magically chain him or put him in a box depending on the version, and while I know the game eludes to these events when Than visits Sisyphus I honestly can't imagine this Sisyphus murdering house guests and taking their stuff...
I mean to be fair, we don't really know how long ago this is from Sisyphus dying. He could've been dead for millennia. I figure that's the thing Zag's getting at, he's been at it for awhile, and resources would be better spent doing other things.
It's implied he's been dead for a long time, and his brutal punishment of pushing the boulder up the mountain while being whipped by the Furies actually changed him for the better
@@Mauricio0973 I mean that's a valid interpretation and to be fair I like Hades' Sisyphus alot, it's just very hard to imagine the king bastard Sisyphus from Greek mythology ever changing and even more so hard to believe Thanatos ever letting him forget how he slighted him or simply letting it go for that matter.
Freeing Sisyphus should get you at least a bit of a negative reaction with Thanatos, considering he's the one who suffered the consequences of the knave-king's cunning.

Wait! Why do we want to release Sisyphus? Didn't he murder a ton of people?
He acknowledges that he was a horrible person and deserves the punishment, but Zag just sees him as what he is now and does not think he deserves to be punished anymore.
The story I heard is that he trapped Death (Thanatos) in a chest to avoid dying. When Thanatos was freed, he was sentence to eternal torment for his hubris. He might have done some awful things, but he wasn't particularly cruel for his era.
@@soulnestahn114 no , it was cruel. He killes guests of his house and raided their dead bodies , breaking the custom of hospitality , which is sacred. However , the gods did nothing , because such actions were made against mortals and were bound for him to be punished by mortals....but Sysiphus tricked and locked Thanatos , and with that , chaos happened to the mortal realm , as everyone were deathless , while he still breaks customs left and right for selfish reasons. It didn't helped that he escaped a second time , making that chaos to happen twice. In that sense , Sysiphus well deserves his punishment , he even acknowledge that.
@@phantasosxgames8488 Wait, I thought the whole mess with Sisyphus started because he tattled on Zeus to the river god Asopus after witnessing the big guy get up to his usual Zeus on the Loose shenanigans on said river god's daughter and kidnapped her, in exchange for having Asopus' river branch out and flow close to his kingdom (making it wealthy), which made Zeus angry and sic Thanatos on him. This first time Sisyphus "died", he instead tricked and bound Thanatos in his own chains, keeping Sisyphus, and all people for that matter, from dying until Ares freed him. The second time Sisyphus "died", he arranged prior for his wife to leave his funeral rites unprepared. Coming to the underworld more like a beggar than the king he was, Sisyphus implored to its queen Persephone to allow him, as a king, to go back for one mortal day to set things right. She agreed, but Sisyphus took her generosity for granted and escaped, not for a day, but for many years, entering into old age before Thanatos, quite wary of the king who bested him twice prior, and with the personal backing of Zeus no less, managed to properly drag him to Hades' realm. Then he got punished with the boulder.

Yes, You can't talk to it before Sisyphus tells Zag Bouldy's name, so it is really easy to miss.

After you have talked to Sisyphus a number of times and possibly given him enough gifts. I am unsure how many exactly, but after he starts calling Bouldy by name, you should check if you can talk to the boulder.

I may be getting my Greek Heroes mix-up wasn't sisyphus one of the greatest con man in the cannon ironically supposedly he's the Honest trustworthy friendly type in this edition
He was a king that would murder his guests in their sleep to steal their shit. When the gods eventually tried to punish him he tricked thanatos and had him locked away for a while, nobody could die during this time so human society went a bit crazy.

I think Bouldy will take endless nectars, but will give you buffs once each run for the first one you give him.
