Finally, I've been wondering when y'all would get this. Most reactors have done it 🤣 🤣. Also, did I hear that Eric hasn't seen Shrek then I guess we'll know what the next reactions should be 🤣 🤣.
@BlindWave Lobo Muerte (that means Death Wolf in Spanish) is voiced by actor Wagner Moura, who also played as the real-life Colombian Cartel kingpin himself, Pablo Escobar, in the Netflix show Narcos.
this is an amazing movie they put a lot of effort in when no one expected them to, and did some really smart things and made great decisions. you guys should finish how to train your dragon
Not seeing shrek is crazy
Indeed
Hey more reactions for them 😅 😅.
Fr all other reactors did at least up to shrek 3 and puss in boots 1
They aren't missing much
Well, time to get to the polls then.
I am astounded that Eric probably knows Han Solo's social security number and Jabba the Hut's blood type, but he has no idea who Puss in Boots is or that he's voiced by Antonio Banderas lol.
Lmao
I found this odd as well
Just min-maxing nerd stuff
@@akshayhere This is the best comment I've ever seen.
It's honestly nuts 😭
Death wasn't craving for just fear. He said it earlier, Puss never valued any of his 8 lives, therefore never respected Death, so Death would enjoy taking him. Now Puss valued his last live and is willing to face Death, making his death less deserving.
Also that whole "laughs in the face of death" thing he says is just rubbing it in the wolfs face.
Death coming for him was definitely personal though. It's logical that he is so sadistic as a person because he's been ruling over millions of people who have died, and to see this one guy, Puss, mocking him would definitely make him irritated.
Still, it looks like the attack was severely personal, death doesn't need to be there for someone to die, so seeing the grim reaper must mean that you p[]ssed him off somehow 😅
@@SprayInk-And-CritGlitch It is kind of personal. He never value any of his lives, and therefore disrespected both his lives and death itself. Puss is the cautionary tale of the Godfather Death.
One of the many reasons people say death was a villain here. It is because they were going against the rules. Can you imagine a world were death had its own sentience? it is those final destination movies all over again. Although.. you can possibly look at it another way. If you boll it all down to basic concepts death came for the careless. Something that just happens when someone is reckless in life.
How has Eric not seen Shrek 2? They all need to react to the Shrek movies. Also, I can't believe they left out Perrito's tragic backstory, one of the best scenes. But anyway, this is one of the greatest animated movies of all time, and Death is one of the best, most terrifying villains ever.
Very true, all of this.
I was rewinding looking for that scene too. Wonder if Patreon has the full movie reactions 🥲
@@justinehercthehuman6941they do…do you think they only react to clips of movies and shows?
That and the scene of goldie telling the bears her wish, both heartbreaking
Eric had a bit of an OMG reaction but it wasn’t too much.
40:44 “If you feel no fear, you’re not exactly brave.” EXACTLY, that’s the point! Puss starts the movie fearless, and ends it brave. Such a great arc.
Puss has more of a "suppressed fear" that's not on the surface yet until he's faced with his last life. Because he knew he had 9 lives, he didn't care about dying. He always feared Death (both the force and the wolf since the wolf is it), it's just that he didn't really care about it until he came to the realization he's on his last life. When he realized the value of his life, he overcame his fear of Death in the very end and it's evident when he said: "I'm done running.". In his fight with Death, he's bold and wiser than before rather than brave, because he doesn't fear Death anymore and is still satisfied with his life. He's boldly fighting for his life to keep it and Death respected him for that.
Not Eric casually admitting he has never watched Shrek
Its painfully clear how tired Calvin and Eric were during this reaction. Calvin specifically wasnt in any condition to watch a movie lmao
Fun fact: When the crowd does the wave when Puss is fighting the giant, you can see the Wolf watching him in the background of the crowd. You can also see him in the 4 corners of the cards during Puss' past deaths montage
Oh really? That's so cool!
That final battle between Puss and Death is peak fiction for me, the voice acting, the dialogue, color, choreography, animation, writing, everything, EVERYTHING
Spider-Verse 🤝 Arcane 🤝 PiB: The Last Wish 🤝 TMNT: Mutant Mayhem Animations with wholesome writing/storytelling & gorgeous art styles! 🔥🎨
Only thing I'd change would be having Puss disarmed again. Probably just me but I feel it'd have more meaning to have Death still be a better fighter but this time when he does it Puss dives, grabs the longer blade and say's his line about never stopping fighting for this life. There's a symetry to the way they did it I just feel it'd mean more to show Puss truly knowing he can never beat death but willing to fight for every moment.
10:48 I really love that the movie is mature enough to NOT make a joke about Puss escaping through the toilet. From Dreamworks of all places.
Yea it was a good decision to just let it show the desperation and fear that he was feeling.
Is Dreamworks known for toilet humor? That seems more a Illumination thing. Beyond a few fat jokes in Kung Fu Panda I never really think of them as going for low hanging fruit, can't imagine a joke like what you're describing in HTTYD.
@@billbill6094 still plenty of toilet and fart jokes in the mainline Shrek films for one example.
This movie does a great job knowing when to take things seriously. It doesnt use immature humor left and right to lighten the tones, it knows when a scene deserves respect.
Death is one of the greatest villains in animation. And they need to react to Shrek 2. The best use of 'I Need a Hero' ever.
Best Dreamworks Villains: 1. Death 2. Rameses 3. Fairy Godmother 4. Shen 5. Tai Lung 6. Tighten 7. Kai 8. Victor Quartermaine tied with Jack Horner 9. Lord Farquad 10. Captain DuBois
The worst part is sadly that if they do they won't be able to include that scene in the reaction for copyright reasons
I'M HOLDING OUT FOR A HEROOOO
Not just animation. Period.
@@skylofter6840 I guess this is the point where I plug their Patreon/Beyond memberships for full length
In an interview Antonio Banderas talks about how his Heart attack he got in 2017 and how it changed his life. He talked about how that scare of morality inspired his portrayal of Puss In Boots for this film.
Wow, how insightful. May I ask where you got that info from?
@@matthewisguy7336 can’t find the interview on KZhead no more but I remember going down a rabbit hole right when I saw the movie in theaters.
A fun fact about the bakers in this movie, is how they both are the "Baker's dozen" and is a "Baker's dozen". They are 13 bakers, which is a baker's dozen of bakers. And they all have individual names that are puns on food stuff or baking in general like Tommy Lee Scones, Crustina, Terror-Misu, Ben Yay etc. It's quite fun attention to detail. Another thing is how when a Baker dies in the movie, they are literally gone. First in the pockets full of posies, Jerry Cobbler becomes a skeleton, then during the battle where Jack has a crossbow, we loose 3 more bakers, leaving only 9 left. And in the next scene, 8 of the bakers forms a human bridge while the 9th commandeers the wagon. They loose 8 more there, leaving only Nutmegan left. And it is at THAT moment Jack enthusiastically says "Well you know what they say, can't bake a pie without loosing a dozen men." And what do you know? Jack had lost exactly a dozen men up to that point. He lost 12 out of the 13 bakers, that is a dozen out of a baker's dozen! And I absolutely LOVE that detail, it's such a fun thing to notice. XD
I know so many things about this movie. The obvious wolf being in the crowd during the fight and perritos map being dark and disturbing. Then the less obvious of the goldi wanted poster having a secret message or the giants bell ringing the 8th time on the 8th life. I knew many things, but this is a new one to me. Bravo I say and thank you for sharing this.
I really hate to the "that guy" critiquing a reaction, but Calvin and especially Eric seemed pretty tired and like they weren't really engaging with the movie early on. Respect and love fellas, look after yourselves and Eric, watch Shrek!!
Kitty did show up to the wedding. She stopped being mad at Puss when she overheard his regrets. Saying she didn't show either served two purposes - 1. It gave him an out; 2. It brought his ego down a notch.
Man, Calvin needed a nap when they recorded this.
Yeah I agree with Aaron, how Eric had 0 idea that Antonio Banderas voices puss is so damn surprising to me. Like all you have to do is hear one or 2 lines from any puss out of context clip you'd immediate know who it is. Banderas has such a recognizable voice 😂
Fun fact. The first PIB movie had Humpty Dumpty, whose name is seen below Hansel and Gretel in Goldi's book (who are also in PIB 1). After that shot, the first letter of each row of the first page says 'You already have it'
Probably one of the best characterisations of death I've seen in a movie. It felt so haunting
y'all can slow the scheldule a little for a bit if you need, we'll still support, promise
He stopped going after Puss because he learned to value his life that he has now, rather than just not being afraid of Death anymore.
i love how the impression of Death's tune changes over the course of the film, from the beginning, it has this ominous, unsettling feeling, and by the time he's a genuine threat to Puss, it's genuinely terrifying. but the final time he whistles, it's lost that impact it's carried. you know it, but it's not as terrifying as you once thought it was. it's a subtle, yet effective way to portray the subject without actually saying that's what it's doing.
Go have a nap guys, you look like you need it. hahaha
This film had no right to be a full fledged masterpiece. One of the best surprises in recent years.
ERIC DIDN'T WATCH SHREK 2?!?! make him.
Everybody rally up to put Shrek on their recommendations like the armies in the Portals scene
@@Depth217 they've released a Shrek 1 reaction today on their website for members so it'll be out within the next couple of weeks on youtube
Hope the guys can get some sleep, Eric and Calvin looked so sleepy from the getgo.
they shouldn't be allowed to sleep until they've seen Shrek 1 & 2
I couldn't imagine working as much as they do. They're schedules are sooo packed!
Feels like they were too tired to even appreciate the movie and it's message.
@@nickmilo932 exactly. it felt like it was work for them to film this. they shouldnt watch what they dont want..
@@Meowtro agreed , watching them ESPECIALLY Calvin trying so hard to not sleep (rubbing his puffy red eyes, the blinking , the yawning , the neck bending, consistently moving on his chair to keep himself up , forcibly laughing a lot of time to not seem rude) was painful to watch. You could tell that it wasn't because he found the movie boring or uninteresting, but simply because he was genuiely tired. Hope he'll take the time to rest properly after this indeed.
Someone slowed down the animation and in Puss and Death’s first fight Puss actually gets him with his sword but Death just phases around it. Like clear strikes, not just motion blur. He very much so was playing with his food.
It felt like it was work for them to film this. They were struggling so much not to fall asleep watching this moive. They shouldnt watch what they dont want to.
wagner moura killed it as death, bro
The Presentation of Death seems to me to be one of the best introductions of a villain, not from recent times, from the story, the atmosphere, voice, design, dialogues, everything, creates a perfect presence
Antagonist, not a villain.
@@SwordTune he is by definition a villain
@@yl3716 Antagonist is the better term, though, because Villain implies evil. Death is not evil. Goldie and the bears and Kitty also play the Antagonist role in the story, while also not being Villains. Jack is the only Villain in this story
@@WhiteWolfDarkpaw Except it isnt a better term, Death is actively partaking in joy when hunting Puss, Death is Hunting puss when he isnt dead yet, Death is hunting Puss because he wants to kill a hero, Death doesnt let puss go at the end because he wanted to, its because it was no longer fun, he even says "Why do you play with your food" to himself in frustration because he took too long
@@SwordTune Nah, he's a villain, too. Puss is still living his last life. Death is violating the rules to take Puss' last.
I thought Death was so cool in this movie every time I watch it I get the chills. The foreshadowing on him tapping the word 'DEAD' was pure gold ❤️
The Wolf is one of the best animated villains in recent animated films. He is terrifying and his voice is amazing.
"The wolf" shall be referred to by his proper title, he is Death. Not metaphorically or rhetorically or poetically or theoretically or in any other fancy way. He is Death, straight UP
Voice of the brazilian actor Wagner Moura!! 😍😍😍
@@guidolermen I hated his character in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which means he did a great job.
Puss took his 9 lives for granted. he never really valued/respected it for someone who has lived that long (relatively). that's why the Wolf confronted Puss on his last life after squandering the the last 8 chances. Also why Death/Wolf left him alone in the end because for the first time he understood how important his life is and actually wanted to live for someone other than himself :)
Its VERY hard for me to believe that Eric has NEVER seen the "Puss eyes" in memes, gifs and internet in general. I can get he didn't see Shrek movies but THAT moment... "Mmmm, let me put on my "Scepticles"
Maybe he seen but not knowing the character it was just a random cat for him.
Hope Eric feels better soon, I feel like he should have been enjoying himself a lot more this movie but he was very subdued and judgmental which is not his norm. To each their own though
They fell off hard.
The wolf was voiced by Wagner Moura who is a famous Brazilian actor! It was a fun surprise as a Brazilian.
He is one of our best actors, loved him in Elite Squad.
There are several subtle hints about Death's true identity throughout the film go back and watch. The numbered cards during the death montage have a hooded wolf with sickles at the four corners. He makes his very first entrance by suddenly appearing right next to Puss with ghostly silence. Prior to that he could be seen in the top left corner of the screen as the camera pans over the villagers of Del Mar watching Puss as he battles the giant. Unlike everyone else he is not cheering for the cat and is instead ominously staring at him. His weapons are a pair of sickles and his attire is a pitch-black cowl which bare a strong resemblance to the Grim Reaper's scythe and cloak respectively. Also, his appearance as a silvery-white bipedal wolf with a gray mark on his face is likely a reference to how the Grim Reaper is usually depicted as a be-robbed skeleton in folklore. During his first encounter with Puss which Death notes that "Everyone thinks they'll be the one to defeat me. But no one's escaped me yet" meaning that everybody dies one day. When Puss once makes another crack at death the Wolf scratches his wanted poster hinting his anger at Puss' arrogant claim. When Puss, Kitty and Perrito escape from Big Jack Horner's henchmen, Death puts two stray coins over his eyes as he watches him leave making him look like a corpse. This is also a reference as to how Ancient Greeks buried the dead with coins over their eyes so they would have money for passage to the Underworld. When Puss sees Death for the first time in the Dark Forest the scenery surrounding him looks like a skull. Death keeps appearing out of thin air with seemingly no one but Puss (initially) able to see him. This is a pretty clear indication that he is no mere bounty hunter. While every other major character is introduced with a wanted poster (sans for Perrito who has an "unwanted poster") he isn't. This lampshades how Death is not a criminal and merely wanted to hunt down Puss specifically for wasting his lives. During Puss's visit to the vet, his death is emphasized to him by the vet blowing out a candle. Likewise shortly before Death appears in the bar one of the candles on the chandelier above extinguishes foreshadowing him coming to end Puss's life. Another detail you might have missed Death's infamous whistle is eight beats long mirroring how he's already taken eight of Puss's lives. During his fight with Puss when he summons the ring of fire this melody lasts for nine beats until he starts talking instead showing how Death is fully intent on taking the cat's last life. Likewise, when Death spares Puss and leaves the whistle's notes are higher giving it a less menacing tone as he now respects Puss and wishes to let him live his life well. Also in case anyone who doesn't speak Spanish here's what Death's quick rant in Spanish (¡¿POR QUÉ DIABLOS FUI A JUGAR CON MI COMIDA!?) roughly translates into English "WHY THE HELL DID I GO TO PLAY WITH MY FOOD?!?" likely showing his disappointment in toying with Puss over the course of his journey instead of killing him when given the chance.
these dudes are so fucking tired, get some rest guys, no use putting out a video if you're falling asleep in the middle
They are either sick every other week or exhausted but hey they do it to themselves can't help everyone
@@TyPiCaLGaMeRz04 Thats what happens when they spread themselves too thin.
Hands down the best depiction of a panic attack in a movie!!! I went to see this movie in theaters not expecting much but this was easily one of my favorite movies of 2022.
Every time the wolf appears, Puss is in a dangerous situation. He literally and figuratively close to Death.
holy hell, let's get eric educated on Shrek. "Is the cute eyes from another movie?" YES
Never having seen Shrek is a damn CRIME for anyone who appreciates animation
not having seen Shrek is kinda weird, given how influential those early films were even against Pixar, and I mean, those came out in that golden era where animation studios put way more effort into their home media releases with fully animated and voiced extras like Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke dance party for 1 and Far, Far Away Idol for 2.
I've people talk about this and I'm on board with the theory that Perrito's map was actually the darkest. They all had to do with death or dying. A Pocket Full of Posies comes from Ring Around the Rosie, a nursery rhyme that is basically talking about everyone dropping dead during the Plague. The River of Relaxation is basically slowly drowning, which also references Perrito's almost death. Finally, the Forest of Quick and Easy Solutions is basically self unaliving. At the end, everyone is talking about getting their wishes fulfilled without magic. Perrito says he's thankful for his life and is happy to be with Puss and Kitty.
So glad you guys are reacting to this! Really devastated to hear Eric hasn’t seen Shrek or Shrek 2 and had a proper introduction to Puss’s character though.
When Puss is fighting the giant the bell rings a total of 8 times
My favourite fun fact about the first 10 minutes Is that the bell rings 8 times One for each death
I'm glad you guys managed to enjoy this movie despite not seeing Shrek/the first Puss in Boots. Though I do kind of wish you'd take care of yourselves; Calvin seemed ready to pass out completely towards the end.
I need a reaction of eric to shrek and shrek 2 please!!
One of the FUNNIEST parts about the Death character is that even though Dreamworks included the scene of him saying 'I am death straight up' there were still people arguing that he wasn't actually death...
I remember a group reaction to this movie had one dude go the whole time thinking Death was an illusion, even AFTER Puss fought him at the star lol He really said, "Is he real??" 😂 Luckily his buddies knew better
Death and Jack both some of the best villains in animation in a while. Death is really well done all around, and Jack is just good old straight up evil but fun, unredeemable villain.
We definitely need a reaction of blind wave watching Shrek
Them missing four shrek movies and the first puss in boots movie is crazy
THIS MOVIE IS A MASTERPIECE!!! The animation, the story, the music, the characters - everything is outstanding!!
I don’t comment much, but I can’t believe Eric has not watched Shrek….oh my goodness
28:04 CALVIN'S FACE LOL
So we can agree that Eric needs to react to the Shrek films yeah?
FINALLY! I thought they’d never react to this! Spider-Verse 🤝 Arcane 🤝 PiB: The Last Wish 🤝 TMNT: Mutant Mayhem Animations with wholesome writing/storytelling & gorgeous art styles! 🔥🎨
4:10 I will always love how the fighting sounds are in sync with the music.
This movie has the best depiction of Death since the Sandman.
I. Need. Shrek. Reactions. Now.
I would like to genuinely notify Eric specifically that Shrek 2 is probably one of the greatest movie sequels. Period. The sentence ended there.
This movie is as close to perfect as it can get Perfect villains Perfect art direction Perfect Color use Perfect story Perfect Character Arc There’s a few things here or there that could’ve been better sure, but it’s as close to a 10/10 as it can be
My favorite detail was this movie coming out the same year as three Pinocchio movies, and Geppetto looks like Guillermo del Toro in the cameo.
Eric never seeing Shrek 2 is a crime against humanity. Its quite literally the greatest sequel to come from the millennial generation
THERE'S NO WAY THEY HAVENT SEEN THIS BEFORE- WHAT
If there was anyone that deserved that wish, it was Perrito. 💜
A lot of people say that Puss should have recognized that the Wolf was Death right away, but I like that he doesn't because it makes the reveal later on more interesting. Also, many audience members including myself wasn't thinking that the Wolf could be Death. One, because death isn't usually portrayed as an anthropomorphic Wolf, and two because this is the Shrek universe a lot of people thought he was supposed to be the big bad wolf from stories like little red riding hood or the three little pigs. Even some critics were calling him that 🤔. Lastly, y'all didn't show it but the line the Wolf has where he tells Puss "I'm not a cat person" I found that to be a nice little double entandra. On the one hand, he is saying that because he's death and doesn't like that Cat's get nine lives. On the other hand, it's a reference to him being a canine who generally don't like felines lol.
As a Brazilian, I am very happy to know that Wagner Moura (from Elite Squad and Civil War) was the voice of Lobo/Death in this film. One of the best brazilian actors by far. ❤
You can tell they're tired when they completely failed to understand Death's point.
Watching Shrek should be a mandatory requirement of having an America citizenship
The wish was really the friends and family they got along the way
28:02 seeing the blood drain from Calvin’s face was priceless
Ngl, I'm kind of disappointed in them for not seeing Shrek and the first Puss in Boots before this. I understand not knowing a certain character, but you don't fix that by watching the LAST movie first.
I feel like EVERYONE I see who's reacted to this movie forgets: it's a sequel. Not just to the Shrek series, but to the movie Puss In Boots. A lot of them have never seen or mentioned the first one
To be fair, the first one is pretty forgettable and this one had no right to be this good.
I did forget a ton about the first movie, but I assumed most people had seen it. I wad actually surprised when I heard this was a thing, I thought it would he just a whack cash grab before the Shrek reboot. Boy was I wrong. Art can really just come from nowhere.
@Bookconsumer the only real purpose to be introduced to Kitty.
It's interesting how it took this movie for so many people to even watch the first one. I'm glad the first movie finally got noticed more, but I also wish they'd see them in order for the full experience.
another thing that shows how strong death is, is the energy wall from the star is shown to destroy everything that goes through it but death walks through it like it's nothing. Also tbh I kinda get where Eric is coming from with traditional animation, there is something magical about it and it's a shame it's so much less common, especially in the west with big budget productions, but stubbornly avoiding the more 3D computer generated type of animation is wild. I'd hold up some pixar movies as among the best films of all time.
1, Death in this is so awesome. He's watching the giant fight at the start in the crowd, and the bell tolls 8 times in that fight, for the 8 deaths of puss. 2, I love how everyone tells others what their wish is, and so under "Birthday wish rules" none of them get it. 3, Given Jack's hoarding of magical items to the point of having a monopoly on them for plot reasons, all of them technically had what they wanted before the wish, which is just great. 4, this is a party of people after an item that fell from space and grants wishes, in a dangerous ever mutating zone, with rival searchers after the same item. So it's technically the same plot as "Stalker" or "Roadside Picnic" which is just mad to me.
“In Order To Be Fearless, You Have To Feel Fear & Do It Despite Of It. To Feel No Fear, You’re Not Exactly Brave” 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Beautifully Said!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉
Yeah, the cat eyes are a thing from Shrek 2.
Death is the best villain ever. Straight up.😎🐺💀
Yooo! I’m so glad you guys are doing this movie!
this movie has no right being as good as it is, its a sequal of a spin-off of a sequal, it was nominated for best animated movie at the oscars.
Damn I kinda wish they watched the first one before this...
I finally watched this movie a few weeks ago and was shocked to see you hadn’t done a video on it yet.
This is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen icl
I was also super late to watching this film, so you posted this at a perfect time. Just saw it two weeks ago
yall lowkey should have watched the first one imo, because the second one is infinitely better than the first and builds off of it. but glad you watched it.
So you're watching this first? Crazy
For some reason I thought they already reacted to this! Maybe I just watched so much react content on this movie that I thought they also watched it as well.
This is one of my favorite animated movies, and I'm so glad y'all are watching it!
So my favorite thing about Death being a wolf was that in Hispanic culture, sometimes Death is referred to as El Lobo, which is The Wolf. Because death waits and has all the endurance to take everyone. He’s a voracious hunter but he can be merciful.
Everyone here needs to go to there patron and poll up SHREK!!!!!
The Brazilian actor for Death, Wagner Moura, is spotless in his VA
Something to note... this movie does a really good job of showing how panic attacks really are.
I need to see eric react to some classic 3d animated movies that he's never seen
Ain’t now way unexpected, can’t wait for your reaction
34:49 "Oh. Ahh! That was horrible. Your wish is horrible. YOUR HORRIBLE!!" The animation changes during fights are beautiful. I liked the ending, but what happens if a bad guy comes to kill Puss, he could get his lives and not be selfish anymore.
8:44 Lmfao Eric's face XD
Why is the video so crispy. It's good and my eyes are blessed
