I can't tell you how many times I have been asked to do a video using centrepin reels... well finally here it is! I suppose this way of fishing brings back memories for a lot of people and it is a very enjoyable way to fish. Certaily makes a change from the method feeder. Goodbye!
I started off in the 1950 with a centrepin. It was actually made of wood. Love centrepin fishing!
Love it. The Banter👏
Had my first session with Westy’s Wafters and feeder, 2 hour session 3 nice carp and a big bream. Money well spent!
Thats made me want to dig my old wagler rod out and have a bash 😊 my God its years since ive done some proper wagler fishing 🎣 😀 nice film as always Matt and Paul great to see you keeping him in check once again 😂😂😂😂 new camera angles and papa West miked up are spot on 👍nice one guys 👍👌🎣🐟🐟🐟🐟
good to see an angler using different methods love the videos
Hiya, I have never used a centre pin so I cant comment. what I will say is your enthusiasm is great & I like your videos because it looks like you both enjoy doing them, keep them coming.
Thank you for the nice comments, greatly appreciated as he does put a lot of time and effort into them.
Well done fella another good fishing video, really appreciate you spending your time and own money on this, keep it up mate 👍
Centrepiece and a handmade float it’s impossible to beat for me ! Really glad you picked one up.
Looks like you both had fun.
Great video. That's proper fishing!
Good on Dad 14😁
Love the centrepin, came 2nd in a match a few weeks ago on the pin and lift method. I never have my clutch on when casting and get the reel to spin as I cast, Chris Yates can be seen on the Passion for Angling videos doing this to get better range.
It's nice to see a bit of nostalgia, a great piece of kit for your next visit to the mighty River Ribble.Stick float fishing down the edge Can't beat it.
Excellent Westy and dad, proper fishing that.
I often float fish for carp on commercials using a centrepin. It's great fun playing powerful fish on the 'pin and needs a bit more skill than a normal reel.
nice to see you out with your dad again, bless you both.
dad finally miced up and not much we were missing :)
An enjoyable video Westy, thank you. I was brought up on centre pin reels, I still have three Alcock, bakelite pins, if you'r not familiar with bakelite, I guess it was a primitive form of rigid plastic, (Your dad would probably remember bakelite) the three I have date from the mid to late 1950's. I also have a Speedia 4 inch drum centrepin which dates from 1963. All are in good working order, and I use them regularly.
Some brilliant collectables there John ! Keep them safe 👍🏻 yes I remember Bakelite dishes etc ! Probably still stronger than those NGT ones 😂👍🏻🎣
Nice job enjoyed that, can't beat the float 👍
Sacked in the morning...Your getting sacked in the morning,,,!! Paul, cruising to another win there Westy lad,, Great video. Enjoyed it. Did a bit of float fishing over the bank hoiday. But never seen anyone use a centre pin reel before. Interesting, though I'm not tempted myself...😀
😂😂 I will get the win over him soon ! You will see 😉
I wouldn’t mind but I gave him a couple hrs. As I went on prawn and muscle to try and winkle out a carp. 😂😂😂
Great to see you both trying something new ,well done dad but Matt you could have had more if you weren’t up and down 😂😂😂 great vid keep it up
Agreed ! This is why I deserve the handicap 😂
Yes but you can move faster than me and my old bones. 😂😂
Don’t come that Paul we’ve all seen you move quickly when you want to 😂😂

Fair play for having a go with the centre pin .. Something ive never used .. I love fishing the waggler when i get chance and thats when i use 1 of 5 Mitchell reels i own ... Love using the match in particular... Gotta agree with your dad regarding that crucian .. Beautiful fish .. Nice vid again mate 👌
hi m8 all i use centrepin, i fish for tench, most i had is 18 in one day,but had a 18lb carp on it.use 6lb line ,all on paste, best way to fish, more fun love it .left hand use first finger to pull line, second finger to pull line from second ring, and third finger pull third ring.
Class video mate! 👏 Would be good to see you and your dad try the centrepin on a small river! 🎣
Hey westy I've done this myself on Stillwater a few times, that's not a drag it's just designed to stop the reel spinning when you're making adjustments or you don't want it to spin, it should be switched off when casting or playing fish etc. The NGT is crap, I've got one and it badly needs a proper line guard. I've also got a sidecast centre pin and it's mint, can cast it like a normal reel by turning it to one side.
Thanks Tom ! That does make more sense 👍🏻🎣
great video mat...i have the same centrepin ..never had a problem with it .....best fish landed on it is a double figure common fishing the edge with lob worm!.....on my greys 12 ft specialist 1.25 test ...8 pound big game line...
Love it mate ! Bet it was a good battle 🎣
Brilliant video ..I said to the wife before you started . your dad would win sorry Westy
Good bit of crack between you and your old man there and thats what its all about, time with family and get out for some fresh air 👍 ignore the 🛎🔚
Great vid mate !
Westy I would love to see another video on stoat hall fishery?
I’m struggling to get out in general at the moment matey, maybe later in the year I have a number of new fisheries to visit first 💪🏻
@@WestysAngling Every new video is a blast to watch can't wait for them.
I've 5, what I call, "Working Men's" Centrepins - 3 Grice & Young & 2 "Leeds" type reels made by Ken Smith, one time, England Team Angling Manager in the toolroom at Skelton Grange power station. (On Nights most probably) All over 50 years old & still work good as new. (More than can be said for those 2 you just bought Lol) 🎣🎣🎣
Haha those NGT ones are S**t to say the least 😂
Age and experience triumphs over youth and ambition. Dad canes the lad - not literally otherwise social services might get involved. Small river trotting the next pin video?
100%
That rip in your bib and brace is obviously caused by eating too many pies 🥧 😂
You aren’t wrong mate, pretty much anything else I can get my hands on too ! 🧁
Thanks for watching the video 🎣 let me know that you think about centrepin fishing in the comments 👇🏼 Support the channel at - westysangling.co.uk/
After only doing canals I'm new to big fish 😅I just got back from fishing high heyes, I was using some 6lb korum hook lengths with size 16 hooks and hair rigs with stoppers. All was well until I hooked the biggest fish I'd ever had. Took my eye off the float for a second and heard a noise, my barbel rod was curved and nearly pulled right off my seat rest. The fish ran quite far before I managed to wind in my drag control to cope (turned out to be too much) After a battle I got it 8 metres away before my hook length gave way. I was gonna then put a hook straight on my main line but had no idea how to make the hair rig that way as I normally use premade lengths I either make or buy. I just didn't want to snap after that monster hehe. I normally start making a hair rig, then hook, then length, then my loop to connect but how do I make it the other way around to put a hook and hair to my main?
How To Tie Method Feeder Hooklengths | Method Feeder Fishing kzhead.info/sun/f7KfYMWBb2eNjJ8/bejne.html
@@WestysAngling cheers, I watched that but it didn't help. Maybe I explained wrong. I couldn't put the hook on and pass the line through eye etc after making my hair rig because I'm using my main line. I was just tryna put hook and hair rig straight to that on the bank
You won’t be able to tie a hair rig direct to your mainline, you would have to tie a separate section then loop to loop it with two figure of 8 loop knots 🪢 if you have been broken you need to up your mainline and hooklength strength, also upgrade to a size 12 hook 👍🏻 my mainline these days is 8-10lb minimum even in winter snd 9 lb hooklength minimum! I use guru n-gauge . It won’t put the fish off 👍🏻☺️
@@WestysAngling ah OK that helps a lot, I think I could do well to get some new mainline anyway so I'll get some n gauge to make some lengths too, thanks man 🤘
Chris Yates used a centrepin for most of hes fishing
What actually are Ide? Are they a cross between roach and bream?
No they are their own species 🎣 🐟
You so need some new pants lol...
😂😂😂
Centrepin isn't just for fly fishing then ?
No not at all, most people use them for trotting on small streams / rivers. Or can be used on still waters like this one 👍🏻🎣
Is there any type of fishing you can’t do ?
Jack of all trades master at none 😂
Why would you need a centre pin reel on a still water
I think westy is just testing it out, but I know a lot of people that use centrepins on lakes, it’s old school !
Why bother ?
