Razer Pro Type Ultra Keyboard Review - Nailing Gaming and Office Use?

2024 ж. 5 Мам.

The Razer Pro Type Ultra is a straight, wireless keyboard designed for office use. It's Razer's second productivity keyboard, and it looks nearly identical to the Razer Pro Type, except the Ultra comes with a wrist rest and different switches. You can pair it with up to three Bluetooth devices or one device via its USB receiver. It uses linear Razer Yellow switches, which feel very light and are quiet compared to other mechanical switches, but there's no tactile feedback, which may bother some people.

  • Thanks for the review, I have the first model, Razer Pro Type, and I was wondering if they had corrected the problems of the first one. The increased battery size, connectivity over usb/usb-C, and the type of switches. I have to say I like the orange switches on the first model (Razer Pro Type) for typing but I cannot use the keyboard at work because they are really, really loud for an office setting. The keyboard continues to work well after 2 years for those interested. I type engineering documents for a living and use the keyboard for some light gaming. I type approx 200-300 pages of word (8 1/2 X11) per week. I know that most of the razer products I have purchased have had some manufacturing defects. Those that do not have defects however are far better than what is offered by competitors (here in Canada anyhow).

  • I recently bought this keyboard and wanted to highlight one issue that might be worth knowing - there's no F-lock key. This means that pressing a function key isn't interpreted as F1, F2 and so on but instead the media player binding for that key (volume, skip track, play, etc.). To get the actual function key to activate requires you to hold down the fn key. For home use this might be fine, but many professionals use software which make extensive use of the function keys and frankly it quickly becomes annoying constantly having to combine the F key with the fn key. There are work-arounds for this but depending on your organisation you may not be able to take advantage of them. EDIT: Razer has released a firmware update that addresses this problem. I've installed v1.03.00_r3 and now fn+ESC acts like F-lock and subsequently the function keys behave normally. Happily this works without having to install Synapse, so kudos to Razer for fixing this.

    • Really disappointed.. How the hell is possible that F1 keys are by default mapped for multimedia and not for F1-F1 and you cannot even invert it on MacOs/ Windows without synapse software active? F*ck you Razer.

    • u can change that in the software

      @existenceinquestion.@existenceinquestion.2 жыл бұрын
    • @@existenceinquestion. 1) software has to be installed and active - it's not stored in keyboard, so it doesn't work when it's not installed or not currently running = doesn't work or Mac / Linux and it's bloatware 2) it is not "fn.lock" it's remap when you use ,Razer hot key* , so not.. you cannot change it, you can workaround it = It's fucking joke In case of "productivity keyboard for professionals" that you don't have function keys by default and you can't change it without bloatware and only on windows... No wonder sales of this is just terrible

  • I owned the first gen if the Pro Type and had to send it back within a year for power issues with a wonky battery connection and key spamming problems. They sent me a gen 2 as a replacement which now has the option to use it plugged into USB but also has key spamming issues with the upper numbers and the numbers pad. I didn't send it back a second time since the first return involved over thirty emails and video recordings uploaded to youtube to prove there was an issue. I really want to like this keyboard and the gen 2 is much more usable connected to USB (I couldn't stand how the battery only model kept powering off the back lighting every so often or how many times I had to press a key to log back into Windows once it had logged off), but the key spamming issue is just ridiculous on a keyboard in this price range. The other thing I really dislike is that Razer keyboards constantly inject an installer app via the USB on your PC to get you to install their software. This should NOT be a thing.

  • Praise: Really good review - straightforward, answered all my practical questions including showing where the cable connects, and the anti-slip pads. First rate content! Constructive criticism: A faster (reasonably faster, not ridiculous) speed of delivery - either using quick cuts to eliminate pauses, or speaking more rapidly will help the audience engage more. That automatically makes it more exciting. Vary vocal inflection. If reading from something add some exclamation points in there! The degree of variation in your tone and volume is quite small so broadening that will help others engage. Try talking with your hands like an animated Italian who is disagreeing with a friend about who the best footballer in history is and see what it does to the range of your speech - then you can implement that in video segments without the hand movements… unless you like the hand movements. Monotone delivery can cause people to lose interest even when what you have to say is interesting. All the best! I really appreciate the clear information and it was very helpful to me!

    • more consistent/quicker action. Its much easier to play high level rythym games/strafe quickly with linears(trying to quickly ADADAD on games like cs and valorant is fatiguing on heavy tactile boards.) That being said the difference is pretty minor and anyone can be a pro regardless of if they use linear, tactlie, or clicky switches. The barrier to entry on being good is never as equipment oriented as people say it is. (looking at you audiophiles)
