Ukraine has taken out a brand-new Yastreb-AV counterbattery radar system, according to Kyiv, just hours after Moscow said it had deployed one of the artillery-seeking systems in the war-torn country.
Meanwhile, Warriors of a unit of the Ukrainian special operation forces discovered and destroyed the Russian Buk-M2 anti-aircraft missile system in the Donetsk direction. The Special Operations Forces report this on Facebook.

It seems like they were just driving it openly along the roads in broad daylight without protective escorts.

    • They didn't even arrive at the target location yet. US intelligence discovered when and where it will be entering Ukraine and passed the Intel on to Ukraine. Ukraine then sent drones and Himars to that area and scouted for it until they found it. They then destroyed it before it reached it's destination.

      @-NOCAP-@-NOCAP-4 ай бұрын
    • I did 6 years in the US Navy so I don't know alot about ground combat but I'm guessing that it needs an unobstructed area in which to track the trajectory and pinpoint the location of an artillery launch. I could be totally wrong on that but I'm willing to wager that Ukraine got a tipoff from NATO satellite recon operations that Russia was deploying this high dollar piece and they knew the approximate location then sent a recon drone to pinpoint it and blink the coordinates to the HIMARS operator. The rest is, as they say, history. If anyone else knows for sure how this thing works please feel free to fill us in and correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Aside from the system itself, there are costs associated with the crew. It's not cheap training crew for systems like this, plus technologically skilled personnel tend to be scarce. After conscription, roughly a million young Russians escaped the country and these were primarily software developers, engineers and other technological people; the same types of people they need to operate these radars. And while I'd expect the Russians would take pains to put their smartest people on these systems, there is evidence that the demand for bodies has caused them to deploy even skilled workers into frontal assault meat grinders. Conversely Ukraine is doing much better allocating resources, keeping their people alive and maintaining high morale. It should be noted that Kyiv was a major software development center pre war so there is a lot of talent to be found.

    • You live outside of reality. About 300 thousand people left Russia, of which 100 thousand were only men. These are, as a rule, young people under 27 years of age who are not military specialists. People working at military installations and military factories do not have the right to travel to other countries for 10 years; a special document is signed about this when applying for a job, so your hope that “big” specialists will flee Russia is in vain. On the contrary, the population of Ukraine dropped from 50 million to 25 million in the first months of the confrontation. I don’t know if this information reaches you, but in Ukraine they don’t value people at all, launching them into bloody offensives. Russia has irretrievable losses of 100 people per day, Ukraine - 800. Now there is a new law in Ukraine, women and disabled people are being dragged into the army. The 12th wave of mobilization is coming in Ukraine. They simply don't show you the real state of the situation in Ukraine. Just think, in Russia there was only one wave of mobilization - 300,000 people, and Russia is still fighting with this composition. Before the offensive, Ukraine had a reserve of 500,000 people. The offensive failed. There is no mobilization in Russia, but the twelfth wave of mobilization is being prepared in Ukraine. This is reality. So ask yourself how the Ukrainian leadership takes care of its soldiers. When Zelenskiy shouts “only forward” and Defense Minister Zaluzhny says “only defense will save us.” Ukrainian politicians throw soldiers to their death in order to continue to rule the country.

  • Yes, but we heard this quite a lot in the past, before the war started: - that the Russian tech is invincible - that Russian soldiers are immortal - that Russian missiles cannot be shot down and there is no anti-missile defence system that can protect against the Russian missiles - that Russian military is the best in the world and nobody can stand against them. Meanwhile, after 2 years, we find out that Russian tanks are capable of flying... after meeting a Javelin rocket. That Russian warships have the capability to transform in submarines... after intercepting Neptune missiles. That Russian soldiers have the capability to disappear... but never reappear. That the greatest midget (dwarf) in the world is living at the Kremlin.

  • I haven't fully understood the free worlds response to Ukraine; "You can defend yourselves within your border." is like entering a boxing match (one that you never really signed up for) and being told you may not strike the other person, just deflect blows and wait until they exhaust themselves and fall over. That is ridiculous but I guess that is the power of Nuclear deterrents. The international agreement and expectations should be that any agressor risks loosing it all if they want to start a "special military operation" more widely known as a war. If that was the case then I'm pretty sure that deters many agressors since the gamble is very large. I don't see it as morally wrong if Ukraine were to push the frontline well into Russia and take a certain amount that correlates to war reperations - the citizens would be under foreign occupation, I know, but they would certainly be better off under Ukraine than under Russia. The only group of people Russia takes care of are the Moscovites and St. Petersburgans as seen in the draft numbers. They were under 1% while most others were from "rebellious" regions to both fight a war and cull any groups that don't like being opressed by Moskva. It is like saying you can mug anyone on the street but if they resist and fight back then that is morally wrong on behalf of the mugged.... and thereby giving any aggressor no reprecussions to poke and prod any borders and start wars.

  • The number of published episodes of the use of "Lancets" has reached 900! According to the updated statistics of colleagues from Lostarmour, by the evening of January 7, 2024, exactly 900 episodes of the use of kamikaze drones "Lancet" in the zone of its own were published. Of the 900 targets, 267 were destroyed, and another 489 targets were damaged. The results of the other 74 hits could not be accurately determined. Unfortunately, 68 videos recorded blunders. Half of all episodes of combat use of the Lancets fall on various artillery. 224 towed guns and mortars, 201 self-propelled guns and 29 MLRS were hit. Other frequent targets are tanks and heavy special equipment (129 episodes), light armored vehicles (86 episodes), various radars (67 episodes) and SAMs (52 episodes). We remind you that only a part of the episodes of the use of "Lancets" gets into the network. The actual combat score is much higher.
