Facing the Music (January - March 1943) World War II

The only option for the German Sixth Army at Stalingrad was surrender, while all across Russia the Red Army consolidated their advantage. Also, as German cities encountered the kind of bombing that Britain faced back in 1940, courtesy of the RAF, the Allied commanders planned a return to France at the Casablanca Conference.

  • Every Marine who stepped foot onto one of the Pacific islands they fought so hard for should have gotten a Medal of Honor as far as I’m concerned.

  • My father-in-law was shot in Pearl Harbour, survived the war but was never the same. He never spoke about it. Now I'm sorry that I never thought to question him. He died many years ago. My father was born in the year 1891, and he died in 1993. He was 102 years old. I 💛 miss him so much. He had 4 children and didn't fight in the war. He was a proud man and worked hard his entire life. Lived through the depression. Never stood on a bread line. Thanks for the documentary, it is a good one! ❤

  • The German people had never been in favor of this war. When, at the last moment, Mussolini had offered to serve as mediator re: Poland, and thereby frustrating Hitler's attempt to invade in late August, 1939, there were public displays in Berlin of relief--something Hitler and entourage highly disapproved of. Once war broke out, the general population did what it thought was its duty and supported the war effort (something Americans do all the time)...

    • Thanks so much for that snipit of Info re Mussolini, I never knew that! And then we forget that the Bolshevik’s had agreed to invade Poland etc from the East. So should France and Britain declared war on Germany and the USSR at the same time? Lenin and Stalin made Hitler look like a Boy Scout when it came to ……

  • I was stationed in Germany in the 70s. I talked with Germans who lived through WW 2 and they told me that everybody knew the war was over in 43. They would listen to the BBC (although highly illegal). They said it was the only place to find out what was really going on. The BBC was 100% honest even when things were not in the allies favor (which was rare). Also German soldiers who lost an arm or leg(s) were coming back from the Russian Front. They told people the German army does everything they can to rebel the Russian Army and nevertheless they keep on coming. The war is lost and it's just a matter of time. When it was announced that a bomb had been placed in a room where Hitler was holding a meeting, in 44, Germans knew exactly what it was about and were glad he was dead. It would lead to a surrender and there would be no invasion into Germany. Only to find out later he survived.

The best men had already been slaughtered in the first world War. That was part of the plan to annihilate the European peoples. This was the last push to complete it. And, for some to gain more, and total control.

They had accepted that they were in a Life-and-Death Struggle with Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan & Fascist Italy and were pouring their lives into winning it. Even most people in the Soviet Union didn’t see the world changing, they just worked to drive the Germans out of Russia.

  • there are much better documentaries on the Second World War year of 1943; this one is very scattered and keeps bouncing back and forth between summer 43 back to winter then to summer then back to Jan and every five minutes back from the Pacific front to the North African front or the eastern front; some of the photos are repetitive;

  • Bizarre chronological narrative. One minute we've conquered North Africa, the next we're fighting at El Alamein, then Pearl Harbor is being attacked; Stalingrad falls to Stalin, then later Hitler is trying to take it and the Russians are trying to take it. I realize a world in conflict is a lot to cover, but let's at least try to put these major events in order.

СССР был за из-за личной договорённости с Де Голлем о том, что французы при нём не будут в военном блоке против СССР. Де Голль сдержал слово. А вот современная,Франция предала эти договорённости.
