Small Kitchen, Big Thanksgiving with Alison Roman | NYT Cooking

2019 ж. 11 Қар.

Alison Roman makes a very big Thanksgiving dinner in her very small kitchen (with an extremely small refrigerator and even smaller oven). She's made some of the classics, like a dry-brined turkey with sheet-pan gravy and buttered stuffing with celery and leeks, but you won't find pumpkin pie on her menu. This year, Alison does Thanksgiving her way. And yes, that means layering jellied cranberry with oranges and onions. Read the full story: nyti.ms/2KrxuWj

  • Why did I just watch a near 40 minute video? Do I live own my own? No. Do I cook Thanksgiving dinner for the whole family? No. Do I even eat turkey? No. But I absolutely loved every minute of this and I don't know why. This woman deserves her own cooking show on the Food Network.

  • Is it weird that I’ve watched this 3 or 4 times over the past two years, just for the enjoyment of it? It’s kind of like an episode of Friends, except it’s not annoying, and it has useful content. :-) The kitchen also reminds me, happily, of apartments in old houses I lived in as a student on the East Coast.

  • My partner passed away last year in April and my mom moved to California and my dad moved to Texas. my siblings moved as well. Aside from my little brother who lives with me. Ive been feeling a bit down about the holidays alone. I didnt really know how i would be able to enjoy them. but after watching this video, and seeing the environment that was created with hosting Thanksgiving with just good friends, and good food. IDK it just kinda made me excited about next year. Makes me want to the same with all of my friends. Pretty random i know but just thought i would say thanks for doing that.

    • Friendsgiving is a thing nowadays. It's so much fun and drama is kept to a minimum. Some of the best Thanksgivings I had was with friends when I couldn't go home while in college. After I got married we gathered up with my in-laws. It was nice & dull w/ some family drama. Boo! After they passed I went back to a mix of family & friends. Thanksgiving is fun again. Have the dinner be potluck. It works out wonderfully. I have a feeling that you'll have fun & make great memories.

  • I made your turkey, your stuffing, and your green beans this Thanksgiving. Such a hit! I bake sourdough bread, so I used it for the stuffing. It was THE BEST stuffing I've ever had, and I'm not over-exaggerating that. People were raving about it and wanting the recipe. The green beans were so good and complimented the meal as a nice healthy vegetable, instead of heavy "green bean casserole." Thank you very much!

I am also a cook and I love breaking conventions once I discover a better way. When I cook with my children they are allowed to take part and do what they think is tasty. I made this for thanksgiving today, using 3 honeycrips apples and baked it in springform pan. It did not come out as a deep dish, was rather flat. It was the best thing in the meal and we finished all of it. Will be making more tomorrow!!

As a gay man, if I could just find the Thanksgiving dinner show hosted by the hunk that makes me forget the turkey.
