  • This is what investigative journalism used to look like! It is really hard to produce something like this with historical context and implications we see now, have input from current commentators and still keep it entertaining...seriously well done! I would love to see a Tommy Morrison documentary - I am convinced that despite having HIV at age 18 he was able to continue to box and train due to his anabolic steroid routine....only when he stopped did the HIV start taking its toll

  • Funny story. I was probably given steroids as a junior cyclist (we all got shots that we did not know what it was, we were told they were vitamins) but then I got in a big crash, had head trauma and a concussion and either from that or the high dosages of anti-seizure drugs I took for years afterwards, destroyed my pituitary gland and I stopped growing at the age of 15. Now, at 44 yo, I'm finally about to start taking growth hormone, prescribed by my endocrinologist, although I'm fully aware I'm not going to get taller... that ship has passed. :) I'm 5'5" and I should be at least 5'9".

  • In the early 90s, I was on a national cycling team in the commonwealth. Day 1 at 14, I was informed by team Dr's I would be getting what they called Vitamins, injected daily. During tours, the medical van would roll up beside us and we would be injected with what I can only think was some sort of speed. I never pissed hot.

    • Damn, they (in that case the German National team) told my uncle the same thing when they injected stuff into him. He was also underage at this time. He went on to win a bronze medal at the Olympics in Seoul in 1988 in the 1000m time trial. Of course he was also on PEDs at the time but they didn’t catch him. He only confessed it around the time of the big doping scandals in cycling in the 2000s as he wanted to shine light on the institutionalization of doping.

  • I used to be a competitive gymnast throughout the 1990s and instead of bulking up the ideal was to stay thin and as prepubescent as possible. I, and a few other girls used ephedra to keep our weight down while keeping our energy and endurance going through the long training hours which at that time was 6-8 hours. Mind you I was 12 when I began this training regimen.

It's been a while since I've read the article but I believe that the reporter wrote that the USOC alibied Lewis, or as you put it "covered" for him, but according to the international rules, any athlete that refuses to be tested is disqualified from participating in the Olympics... • I think the MMA world is very similar in their unwritten policy concerning PEDS as the WWE and that’s “We love the results you’re getting in the ring and you’re putting a lot of asses in the arena and on PPV but if you get caught we don’t know you.” Im just guessing but it’s not difficult to see the telltale signs of abuse if you’ve ever been there yourself.

  • It is disgusting how many organisations and teams who turn there eyes to the side KNOWING there athletes are taking illegal substances. The NBA, MLB, NFL, Boxing bodies etc-etc. it is so obvious with many athletes it is frightning how they are allowed to go on competing and recieveing tons of money doing so. How many athletes have grewn a wider jaw, loss of hair, wider shoulders etc and covering them up. The jaw thing with a full beard is common for example.
