As figure skaters well all dream of having amazing jumps that rotate EXTREMELY fast. These fast rotating jumps then give us the opportunity to begin working on doubles, triples or maybe even quads! But for a lot of skaters (including ourselves once upon a time), learning how to rotate jumps faster seemed almost impossible.
But fear not, because in this lesson we are going to show you some simple exercises you can practice at home away from the ice rink. These exercises will help you to build the strength, coordination and quickness to start rotating faster and convince you that you will be rotating faster in no time at all!
In this lesson you'll learn:
- The simple mechanics of rotations in the air
- 3 exercises that will help your rotations get faster
- Common mistakes that you want to avoid at all costs
Happy Skating!

Adult skater here, and these exercises also look like really great warm ups before getting onto the ice. I will have to keep these in mind!
Hello, they are great warm up exercises :)
That is true. Good idea. I am an adult skater, too. I definitely will need to do a few of these before ice practice.
Watching these even tho I only started learning waltz jumps 😆
Haha it's always good to start early
You can do it!❤️❤️
I have been struggling to achieve more rotation than my simple jump without dying in the attempt and these exercises are helping me a lot
I’m so happy it’s helping ❤️❤️❤️
thank you for your content, very informative, i am a profesional inline vert ramp skater and this definitelly helped improve my 1080 mctwist rotation! keep up the great work!
Very welcome and so happy it helped. Thank you for the kind works. Keep up the great work
Thank you for the exercise! I am going to include them into my off-ice warm up routines❤
Absolutely fantastic
Great help, thank you
So happy and very welcome
Yay! I love the exercises. I am relatively new at skating (I have been practicingfor a little over 3 years now). As an adult, I find it difficult to find d strength to do even the simple jumps (loops is harder). Now that I have been working on Lutz, I know the next step will be axles. I feel that these exercises are easy enough for me in my 40s to do it. Thank you 😊. 🎉
So happy you like them ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much I definitely feel my jump improving
You're so welcome! Keep up the great work ❤️❤️
Thank you!
Very welcome
Thank you! Will incorporate those exercises in my off-ice routine. Will you be making any more videos for off-ice training to go from single to double jumps? If so, looking forward to it!
Absolutely, we will be doing that 😉👍❤️
Thank u :)
You're welcome 😊❤️
this helped me get my triple axel and 4 rotations
Fabulous
Can you make a video of triple sal off-ice exercises
Yes we can 👍
do the arms move in line with the shoulders? (also rotate in the same way as the shoulders?) or do they just stay in place? and what does the rotation really come from? from shoulders and hips or also arms? I mean do the arms just pull in or do they also make rotation (without the shoulders) I learnt bad technique and now i need to understand how it really works 😅 Do you also have tips or videos about getting a better air position? I always bend my landing leg and break in at the hips / butt sticks out And last question: What does the head do? Wait till the last moment before jump and then looking to the left and on the landing to the right?
We definitely need to do a video that breaks this all down 👍
How do you keep your axis up right in the air? I start spiking really fast and when I land I’m either leaning to the right or to the left too much or go back a lot or fall forward. How do I spin fast but land and find my footing easily?
Start with half jumps making sure everything is in line then move to single. Once singles are strong, start to add more rotation and slowly work up to double. If you find balance is off trying a double, go back to single. ❤️❤️
Hi may i know if the neck should keep stiff in place when we do this exercises?
I’ve seen people do both 😉❤️
Is it too late to start figure skating at age 13? I see those people who say they started at 3/4 years old and that discourages me 😭
If you are not aiming for Olympics level, 13 is a good time to start figure skating. There are a lot of adult skaters, people who start at or after their 20s and can do doubles. I saw an adult skater on instagram doing triples. (She skated to Thor theme song if I remember correctly.)
It’s never too late 😉❤️❤️ just start
Do it! i started at 16 and it’s been a little bit more than a year and sure there are some 7 year old better than me but I’m improving quickly and love it!
I started at 29 and I have been progressing beyond my expectations.
i started at 15 and its definitely not to late
❤️❤️❤️
