You right about the motors Barrie I have the early one and it hopeless it gives up after a few minutes running. Maybe one day I will replace the motor

Hi Barrie after watching your video i went and checked one of my class 71s and it's got DCC ready on the box but doesn't say which type of socket it is hope your keeping well and keep up with the good work on the videos

It’s got an 8 pin socket all the Hornby 71 have . If I remember correctly there’s not a lot of room for a decoder so you need a small one. Hope that helps

I use Lais 8 pin decoders in my 2. Both excellent runners

The Hornby version is miles better than the DJM pile of junk. You chose wisely.
