  • I have to admit, I started watching this video expecting to spend only a few minutes watching. I'm not an archery hunter, so I didn't think there would be much that would pertain to my interests; however, I couldn't have been more wrong! I was astounded at my lack of knowledge in archery, and listening Bryan break it down in ways that made so much sense was a joy to watch! I can't hit the broad side of a barn with an arrow, but after listening to this, I think that I may get involved! Great interview!

  • Mark. Vortex is very often discussing bullets. And Ballistics. And often discussing the concept of 'ethical ballistics and terminal Performance' With bullets. And often when the discussion trends towards the smaller, lighter, slower, projectiles, etc... The question is often raised. How much Kinetic Energy on impact at range, , is required to be ethical, in hunting. And the irony is often pointed out, by the comparison to Arrow ballistics. Which tend to be much lower in terms of projectile speed, and total energy on impact. But arrows and archery aren't often the primary topic so they get mentioned, but set aside. This week you are speaking about Arrows. And my question is this. Arrow terminal ballistics, vs bullet terminal ballistics. Why can arrows be so effective, so far below the thresholds considered ineffective with a rifle? If impact energy, and oenetration, and wound cavities are similar or larger from the bullet at range, What specifically makes it 'less effective', when a 'wealer' arrow is numerically lower on the terminal ballistics numerical chart alone... But somehow, Doing the job, and accepted as such. For context, I grew up with archery, I learned rifle marksmanship in Canadian Armed Forces, But I'm just getting into hunting as an adult, For 2 reasons. Reclaim a heritage from my grandfather. He was a trapper and hunter and raised 4 well fed kids through some very lean times. I'm raising 2 kids, and grocery stores aren't always open, and highways in winter can be closed. And meat isn't getting less expensive. Anyway. We live in rural British Columbia. The number of deer we pass on the highway is, amazing. The number who have accidents, amazing. Anyway. Arrows. Bullets. Hunting deer. Ethically.

  • Great conversation, really enjoyed the arrow talk. The bits about shot placement, I don’t necessarily agree with, but to each their own. If he’s aiming mid-body and ethically harvesting his game, more power to him.

  • 1:49:29 Well , great video. I built a shopping cart today, with 6 arrows, and 6 Broadheads. It really is going to be a jump up, from 'something to shoot'. To a premium arrow. I'm going to focus on getting my accuracy, up to the standard to justify these. Gotta say they do look very nice.

  • Would love to hear you guys do a full talk on the 338-06. I am building one now and can't find a lot of info on it. After watching your 338 Federal Lead Balloon pod cast I decided to build one of those too. I'm hoping to have both done in a month or two and until then have been reading and watching anything I can come across about either cartridge. Your take on best bullets to load with, best game to hunt and range of use would be a lot of fun to hear.

  • 1:17:04 Add a stack of shattered competitors arrow head, and shafts, In a visual chaos, And chuck some 'cheap shafts' that snap and break from low quality, On to the pile as you sell the line. A year of rigorous testing.

  • I watched this with an open mind. I take what I can use and leave the rest. However, Dr Ashby has proven with imperical evidence over 30yrs of research, the difference between 10% and 30% FOC and all % in between. As well as the difference between single and double bevels. Thanks for your opinion and observations.

  • There is definitely a lot more rotation in. This guy is given single bevel credit for you don’t believe me do your own testing.

  • Is this guy really trying to dismiss all the testing ashby did on single bevel heads with conjecture?

  • Hi guy! I would not change my conversation about the reason for your name. If someone can't understand an explanation of how you came about the name most likely is not a very advanced hunter and is only looking for the glory of the hunt! Have a blessed day.

    • So someone who doesn’t study the same Bible as you couldn’t possibly be an advanced hunter? Seems a bit ignorant to me, I agree there’s no need to change the explanation but as someone who has no affiliation with organized religion because I got tired the incredible hypocrisy amongst those who claim to be the most holy I think the rest of your post is utter garbage.
