  • It really helped seeing the inside mech, kudos for mentioning difficulty with an upholstered sofa & tbf it wasn't as tricky as I had envisaged, my main concern was loosing a finger or hand if the mech sprang. I managed to save a few quid by removing the cable I wasn't using; COLC being a brit. Mine broke at the lever, the cable end had snapped. All done now with a bit of WD40 to boot.👌✌👍🙏

  • Thanks for the video! I read all of the comments and responses and my problem wasn’t mentioned in any of them. I have a 30 yr old manual recliner and I’ve always been able to recline it to a comfortable position and it would stay there. Now it fully reclines immediately and I can’t stop it. If I’m not careful it will tip over backwards.

    • I have seen that issue a few times on La-Z-Boy recliners. They typically have a mechanism that allows it to stop in three positions, and once it wears out it goes all the way back do you by chance have a La-Z-Boy?

      @the323vlog4@the323vlog45 ай бұрын
    • If it is not a lazy boy, maybe a spring broke on the recliner that creates that tension to hold it up, right

    @janicelphillips@janicelphillips3 жыл бұрын
    • Unfortunately, there’s not really a long term solution for a bent mech. Occasionally, I’ll have success using a 3 lb hammer straightening it out but the best solution is checking with the store of purchase to see if they order a new one. You could also check the recliner handles website. They usually run approximately $200 and probably another $150-$200 for installation

Would you know of a good place to order a new mechanism? Or would it be better to search for a cheap used recliner I can scrap the mechanism out of?

    @Jkuntz0615@Jkuntz06153 жыл бұрын
    • That is a possibility, but there are so many different models and styles, it is hard to get the exact one. Not impossible though. Where are usually start is with the store where It was purchased from. Bigger companies like Rooms To Go or Ashley‘s usually have the ability to part order mechanisms, and it’s a great way to ensure it’s the exact one that you need.You might even have some luck giving the mechanism a tap with a small two or 3 pound hammer

  • Thanks for the video. Wonder if you have seen one of these frames that just gets sloppy. The couch and side that is used most often is difficult to open and close when someone is sitting on it. I found that the outside telescoping mechanism is hitting the bottom bar that runs across the floor. You can see that whole side is drooping to the outside. When I compare that reclining mechanism to the other couch that doesn't get used as often it is VERY loose. But I don't find any bolts or connections that are loose when I turn it upside down. Do these just get sloppy over time and use?

    @stylerod@stylerod4 жыл бұрын
    • Yes! That is definitely what I see . The riveted joints become very loose over time and the mechanism started leaning towards the arms. What I’ve done in the past that sometimes alleviates the rubbing is adding a few washers between the mechanism frame and threaded leg that screws into the mechanism frame. That gives it an extra 1/4” sometimes which is all is needed to prevent it from rubbing...unless it’s drastic

  • I have a base very much the same. It has a worn out broken pivot point fastener. The two chair's I have, has been used a lot but have been covered since day one, and still look brand new, so I hate to spend to replace them. The steel fastener looks exactly like the one's on the base in your video. I believe it is some kind of steel type rivet, fitting into a small hole on one arm, and a larger hole on the other. My question is, do I need to try and replace this with a high speed steel bolt/washer/nuts, or is their a special part I can buy and where to buy it? Thank you.

    @username-rd8cl@username-rd8cl3 жыл бұрын
    • I personally haven’t seen any parts specifically sold for this in my eight years of doing it. I think you’re on the right track as to finding the high speed bolt/nut/washers for replacement. That’s what I have used in the last and they seem to hold up great.

    • I would imagine your recliner mechanism is bent and leaning causing it to hit the floor. I would try to flip it over and inspect your mechanism to see if there’s visual signs of leaning/bent areas . It will more than likely need a full mechanism replacement. I usually start by checking with the store where purchased

  • Question - we have an older Flexsteel recliner, which fits our needs perfectly. However the plastic roller which is part of the manual recliner mechanism has broken and won't allow the chair to recline smoothly, {you have to get out of the chair, lift up the front, and pull out the footrest to get it to recline}. I have contacted Flexsteel and have been informed that I would have to replace the whole recliner mechanism, however the chair is too old and the part is no longer available. Do you know if there any way to replace the small plastic roller? Thanks!

First, my mechanism seems to be backwards. If you put the "ledge" to the outside (as you did the second time around), the place where you connect the cable is facing down - not up. If you swap it so that it is facing up, it is towards the front of the chair and "ledge" is towards the back. Also, I don't see another hole near the bolt hole to hook the spring in. Any thoughts?
