  • Just no weaknesses to his game. Kicking, ball handling, running, tactical, organisational, defensive... all outstanding. Probably couldn't scrummage but that's about it!

  • His performances in the knockout stages of the 2015 World Cup were some of the best I've ever seen. France couldn't cope with him in the QF and he kicked brilliant, decisive drop-goals in the SF and final. Was lucky enough to go to that semi vs South Africa and see so many phenomenal players grace the pitch - Carter, McCaw, Nonu, Read, B Barrett, Habana, Pollard, Matfield. So many legendary players when I look back on it.

    • Agree re 2015 RWC. I thought the QF, SF and Final Performances were the greatest 3 tests ever played in a row by a 10. I went to them all but the SF against SA was a tactical masterclass the way he controlled the game.

  • I’m 60 , followed rugby as long as I can remember, Best player I’ve seen when it comes to alround skills , some players are great in one or two areas , he could do it all. Brilliant in attack with his running and passing game , plus that underated fend off . Copybook tackler . Kicks from both feet in general play , brilliant goal kicker , field goals , and a great temperament . Met him , bloody nice fella to top it all off , so humble and down to earth .

  • There was a defensive play he made in the 2015 RWC that I think sets him apart from everyone else. In the semi against South Africa, Lambie kicked a penalty in the 69th min to bring SA within 2pts (NZ 20 - 18 SA). A minute later, NZ turned the ball over just outside the SA 22m line. Lambie then booted the ball down to inside the NZ 22m line with 4 chasers. The end result was Dan Carter calmly kicking the ball out for a lineout before anyone else could reach the ball. However, if you watch Dan Carter's movements just as the turnover was happening - they are incredible. He spotted the danger well before anyone else, anticipated Lambie's kick and got back with time to spare before all the other quicker players could. Whilst everyone else was reacting in the moment, he was thinking and movinh ahead of the game! Truly special player!

    • He scored a lot of tries & made a lot of good runs before he picked up that injury at the 2011 RWC, which slowed him down & took away his running game, but he still set up plenty of tries. If I remember correctly, he scored 29 tries in his first 8 years of Test Rugby, & he was only a reserve who played some of the tests for his first couple of years. Then didn't score a single try in his last 5 years.

I was up in London for an appointment, and on our way home Julian Save, Kieran Read, Dan Carter and Jerome Kaino were on the tube. Some of the most down to earth people, so happy to take pictures and talk; and my Dad actually took a photo of the four (as well as one of me with all four of them) which were posted on DC's social media. It was so surreal, and even though I'm not an outright AB fan it was so awesome

He had it all on attack... speed, kicking and chipping, vision and an eye for the gap, passing, footwork to evade tacklers and a mighty fend and this reel shows that. What i feel it doesnt show was his rock solid defence. He was NEVER (as tends to happen a lot with 10s) a liability on defence. I guess playing a lot at 12 early helped with that.. He was not soft haha or one to shy away from the rough stuff on defence. He was good at everything. Easily the best 10 ever (a nod to Mr. Wilkinson for sure) and still has to be in the conversation for best player ever overall.
