    @TFalconwing@TFalconwing Жыл бұрын
    • Agreed. The issue wasn't a lack of knowledge, it was that they would literally have to destroy Hometree and a huge area of forest to be able to get to the WeNeedTheRockium. Very early in the movie when Jake's shuttle is first landing, we are shown the sheer size of quarry they use to obtain it. I can't even begin to guess at the acreage that was already destroyed there.

Digging them up would be equivalent to performing lobotomy on their deity…. Of course they would be pissed off. All of their magic and natural connection comes from their link with that sentient ecosystem. Those tribal people were not fighting for “trees” - they were fighting for their god.

    • I thought those rocks is what gives Eowa its sentience by powering the planet-wide neural network. It's like removing the copper wiring from circuit board if the humans mined the whole moon bare, which probably would cause a mass extinction event as everything there has evolved to rely on the neural network. That's why there are those rules that the Navi can't mine the ores of the planet, because the neural network wants to protect itself.

      @_MaZTeR_@_MaZTeR_ Жыл бұрын
    • @@_MaZTeR_ One, even in the supplementary material, I dont think that's correct. The supplementary material did mention more about the traditional laws against mining, but they were more traditional laws, I dont think it ever suggested mining would kill Eowa outright. Correct me if I'm wrong and site your sources if your correct, but if Eowa was not the collective earth but JUST the unobtainiam around and beneath the trees thar was the sentience keeping the whole planet working, that doesn't make much sense in terms of how the planet grew life, even by fictional standards. At the very most, even if it did kill Eowa, it would not cause a max extinction event, the planet would simply loose its psychic properties while the animals and navi would keep their direct psychic connections. ( In other words, no spiritual wifi, spiritual LAN lines would still work except for the trees. XD) 2) If it wasnt in the movie, it doesn't matter. The main hero Dr. Grace, not to be confused with the main protagonist Jake, was doing everything she could to make sure compromises and treaties happened so only minimal damage would happen instead of max extinction events, plans that were ruined by Jake's video logs.

  • The whole point why the humans attacked the Navi was because Jake said in his video log that he thought they were never going to leave Home Tree. When the other humans heard that, they decided they didn't want to wait anymore. Jake was eventually going to tell them probably. And to obtain the Unobtainium from the ground under Home Tree they almost certainly needed to destroy the tree, so Jake was right: there was just no way the Navi were ever going to leave Home Tree. The humans would have chosen violence when they would find that out. (Because of the video log they found it out sooner.)

    • @Slipstreamz Yeah, feels like it was just yesterday... Actually, it was. Avatar was the highest grossing movie in the box office worldwide from its' release in 2009 until July 21, 2019, a decade later, when it was passed by Avengers: Endgame by a narrow margin. This, for some reason, sparked a ton of controversy. The makers of Avatar, (I assume) realized they could make money from this. About a month after Endgame passed Avatar, Avatar rereleased in China, netting a little over 50 million dollars and retaking the number one spot. This was only the second rerelease in 10 years, the first netting around a million the previous year. These numbers are chump change next to the massive amount of money *both* movies made, but they still made the difference on which was on top. Today, Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time at the box office (not adjusted for inflation). The funniest part of this, to me, is the fact that this supposed 'competition' for the top spot that all the fans were getting upset about? The makers likely couldn't care less, since they won either way. Both movies, if you follow the money, were ultimately made by Disney. The Mouse owns them both. Marvel made Endgame, and Disney owns Marvel. 20th Century Fox made Avatar, and at the time Endgame passed it and Avatar rereleased, Disney had already bought out 20th Century Fox.

Every tree, building, animal, and person, all because they want something from your home that can't be found when those things are in the way. Take that, but multiply it by 1000x. Home Tree wasn't just their home, it was a symbol and an important part of their connection with Eywa. They didn't want to leave because of that. Generations of Na'vi grew up there, lived there, died there, and many were probably buried around there. It may seem like just a home to us, but to them it was everything.

  • It wasn't necessarily that they didn't know they needed just these rocks. It wasn't a simple explanation. It's not walking in and picking up rocks on the ground. It would be a mining operation. Y'know, break down the tree, create a massive hole in the ground to dig for it. That's why they had him talk about moving. Jake and the others did at the end mention the asking them to leave the tree and they said no. Because of course they said no. It is their home, their sacred religious home especially. They wouldn't leave for some humans to come turn it into a giant hole in the ground.
