Spain and Germany's winning goals came late in the game, and there was so much more impact from those goals and the games were way more competitive and tense.
As a Croatian I will never forget this. I was so sad when they lost I was upset for 2 days after the final. I’m still so proud of them

I was on vacation in France in a tiny village with my family when France won the world cup. Never seen so much life in a tiny village with maybe 200 residents. It was nuts.

England and Spain are the only other two countries to have won one. It was Croatia's first World Cup final but technically they were also in the 1962 final in Chile as part of Yugoslavia. The Netherlands have been to the most finals without ever winning it - 3 of them. Hungary,the former Czechoslovakia and Sweden (as hosts) are the only other nations to have played in one. I was on croatian main square during the game and as soon the ref blew the whistle, people began to celebrate. It wasnt a fake celebration, everyone knew the significent of the moment, we will remember it for the rest of our lifes. Also, in the crowd was a french guy with a french jersey and a horn-hat, we hugged with him and even tossed him in the air just like the french team did their coach. There were no incindents, fights or riots, only unity and happines. And thats what football is all about, its only a game that brings happines and joy to all people in the world no matter of the skin colour, or financial status. Just enjoy it and dont fight about it, because by fighting you are destroying its point.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a mixture of Croats, Serbs and Bosnians. Some of the players are from the part of Bosnia and Herzegovina which has always been Croatian territory and it is still inhibited mostly by Croatians(the left part). That is why you can see for example in Mostar, an unbelievable support for the team every time there is a game . So yes you can say those players are from a different country but there is actually no difference at all while the french team is a different story. Most of the team originated from Africa so they have no connection to France.
I’ll never forget this night. My husband and I were in Madrid for MADCool and bar hopping; it was live in every bar and there were Frenchies everywhere celebrating with their Spanish comrades. Quite an amazing time to be alive 🎉
