Why Crystal Palace are thriving under new manager Oliver Glasner

Crystal Palace's recent success under manager Oliver Glasner continued on Monday with a remarkable win over Manchester United. Since Glasner's arrival, Palace have been the sixth best team in the Premier League table, with impressive performances from players like Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze. However, there are concerns about whether Palace can retain these key players in the summer transfer window. Glasner's track record at previous clubs and the players' potential desire for bigger moves could pose challenges for Palace. Nevertheless, if they can keep their squad intact, Palace has the potential to compete for European places next season.

  • Whenever Palace start a streak of any kind, the first thing people discuss is where their top players will be playing the following year.

    • The story of the have's and have not's. Any transfer window the supporters of the rich teams start speculating on who they'll buy, the supporters of the other teams have to worry about who they'll lose.

  • Glasner is a really good coach who has done some interesting things at clubs like LASK, Wolfsburg and Frankfurt. Unfortunately, bigger seagulls in the pond will be circling on Olise and Eze and eventually Glasner too.

  • The key is keeping Dougie Freedman away from Man Utd, Because if we do lose Olise and or Eze we will need Freedman to find replacements, and let me tell you Freedman is so tactically astute and knows his players, he is one of the best scouting Directors of Football in the world.

  • Glasner wouldn't have joined if all his best players were going to get sold🤦. You forget that Steve Parish is a Palace fan Wilf Zaha was leaving Palace for 8 odd years......he eventually left on a free. Both Ebs and Michael are happy at Palace. Glasners appointment, the big stadium upgrade that starts in the summer. Upgrade of both the first team training ground and the indoor training building and medical/recovery centre is part of the clubs ambition to compete for European cups. Steve will want at least another season out of Ebs and Michael. Guehi I suspect we might be open to selling as we have decent cover and a long standing interest in a certain promising CB.

  • Can't stop thinking about Doucoure and Wharton in CM next season.

  • From what I have seen over the last week or so, Guehi is the one to be sold. He kept saying "they" when speaking about the team and he is the most serious guy in a squad that likes to joke around! Eze and Olise are very very good mates off the pitch and love playing together. I just cannot see either of them leaving just as we put together a top 8 team with top 4 facilities (although we play in a bang average capacity stadium) with a top manager and excellent teammates both in skill and character. We only need 2 or 3 top additions and we have a very good squad, capable of top 8 for sure!! COYP

  • At last a podcast that appreciates where we are at the moment. We also have long term injuries to come back, Johnstone (GK), Guehi (Captain and CB), Lerma (DMF or CB) and Cheik Doucoure (MF). We at last have squad depth and maybe a chance of realising the potential us fans see week in, week out if we can keep them at the club and they keep fit. In the current climate with FFP finally punishing clubs, some of our better players should be unaffordable to most clubs. I'm sure our astute Chairman won't let our prize assets go for cheap. Keep up the good work, subbed.

  • Keep olise guehi eze ... sell eduarde ... OFF load ward and Tomkins off the pay ... NEW striker and hope Glasner convinces our squad that we are capable of pushing for a top 8 or more and maybe a cup run ... there is no reason why we can't achieve that next season ❤️💙🦅🙏

  • What is the obsession with focusing so much on negative speculation for next year? Could you not focus more on the tactical changes and January additions we have made to suit Glasner's system? How about Muñoz, Mateta and Wharton's roles? Palace would never sell Olise, Eze and Guehi in the same summer. Parish has no record of doing that and we don't need to. Guehi will go for £50/60m and that will help add a striker and LWB. Some decent analysis of Olise here, but it's otherwise just three blokes discussing a team on a basic 'pub piss up' level.

    @jamesdavis267@jamesdavis26712 күн бұрын
  • Of the three touted departees, I would have thought that Guehi is the likeliest to leave. Eze and Olise clearly like playing together and either would be more difficult to replace. At the end of the day it will be down to the players to decide, whether or not rumoured release clauses are met. Don't forget that Olise turned down the chance to move to Chelsea last year - rightly as it happened.

  • We have had many false dawns at Palace but you'd think that sooner or later one of them will turn out to be the real deal. Who knows, but I think this is the best place we have been at for a long, long time. I'm quietly optimistic. A lot will depend on how well we recruit if one or more of our crown jewels depart. Dougie Freedman has done a brilliant job with recruitment so far so there's every reason to believe that will continue. As long as we give Glasner the tools he needs we know he has what it takes to deliver.

  • This team has been missing Doucoure, Lerma and Guehi and still got 5 wins and a draw in our last 6 against good opposition. If we can Get one more season out of these players Europe is very achievable. We need a bigger squad, but the spine is the best it has ever been

  • "Make a stab for European football"! The last team in relegation trouble who went on a tear like Palace have done at the end of the season (5 wins and an away draw against teams all above them in the league) won the title the following year by 10 points. The key is keeping Olise and Eze with the suggestion that they can steer Palace to Champions League qualification

  • We're only selling Guehi to liverpool. Eze and olise are a package deal as they are best friends and want to play together. My opinion/prediction anyhow. UTP ❤️💙🦅🔥

  • There are a couple of problems Palace have. Firstly they want to start building the new main stand this summer and will probably need to raise some funds for that. Secondly given the formation Glasner likes to play there are some gaps in the squad. If either Mitchell or Munoz gets injured they don't have obvious replacements. Perhaps Clyne or Ward could fill in for Munoz, but there is no one to fill in for Mitchell. So selling one of Olise, Eze or Guehi is probably going to happen to raise funds for the stand and/or squad depth. As for next year, I am feeling quite positive if we can keep Dougie Freedman. He is the most important person Palace needs to keep. His track record of finding successful players in the lower leagues/overseas and persuading them to join the club is amazing. I trust him to find the players we will need if any of the current squad leaves.

    • Good point , although i think left wing back is , more or less , Schlupp's natural habitat ; Munoz would be trickier to cover - Clyne or , thinking positively, Ayew might cope ?

    • There's also a chance Danny Imray and Tayo Adaramola can push on meaningfully under Glasner and get some minutes!

      @Animalistic9@Animalistic912 күн бұрын
    • I think you are right. If incomings have to match outgoings, I reckon ideally, for Palace, Guehi goes and they bring in a young quality replacement for him and upgrade on Mitchell who has done OK but is not Munoz's standard. Tyrick could be a good back up at wing and centre back. On the right, Imray has the attributes required but needs more experience. I think they would hope that Munoz will continue as the everready bunny with Clyne (who hit the post yesterday from open play so has the legs!) to sub in an emergency

  • Palace have been fighting above their weight in the PL for 11 years now. The size of the ground & consequent turnover is restrictive & they have been known for relying upon more mature 'journeymen' players to retain that presence. But more recently, with the development of the Academy, attitudes seem to have changed & they're investing in younger players to develop & merge into a quality team. This is something that Roy Hodgson's style was lacking & now with Oliver Glasner a young, fit & tactically aware squad is developing. The problem will be how to keep hold of the talent that is being nurtured because, as we all know, money in the PL talks!!
