Hello everyone,
In this story I'm restoring a vintage hammer, I bought years ago from the polish bazaar.
This is the handle part. Instead of making a new handle, I chose to restore the old one to perfect condition. I also used brass metal for durability and good looks.

Fascinating. A month ago I would not have spent 22 minutes watching someone re-handle a hammer. 22 minutes with you is like 22 seconds. It’s over before I know it. That would have to be the most beautiful hammer handle I’ve ever seen.

I was a panel beater for 35 years so went through a few hammer shafts I was replacing the shaft on my 2 and half pounder I hit the shaft wrong while knocking it on and chipped it , a bit ticked off thought not having that and only had car body glue Sikaflex I glued the chip back on with it that was about 30 years ago still got the hammer and shaft .

When you decided to use the old handle instead to make a new one,that´s made the difference.It´s very nice to see real restorations,not amateur jobs. It should be nice if you write on the screen the products you are using.(the mysterious blue bottle liquid,for exemple) Beautiful job.

Je suis allé à Trabzon, Rize, Artvin, Van, Dogubayazit, Malatya, Adama, Urgup, Avanos, Kaysery etc. Je bois du thé Caykur, je mange très souvent du çaçik, meçimek çorba, patliçan… j’apprécie beaucoup vos vidéos. La qualité des restaurations, de la prise de vue, l’ambiance de votre atelier. À mon premier séjour à Istanbul en 1980, j’ai vu près du pont de Galata, de nombreux ateliers où on fabriquait des pièces sur mesure pour les bateaux. Je ne les ai plus revus plus tard. Votre atelier m’y fait penser.J’ai lu beaucoup de romans d’Orhan Pamuk. Merci d’avoir pris le temps de me lire, merci encore pour vos vidéos, cela me fait voyager à nouveau dans votre beau pays.

Hi Andrea, thank you very much and greetings to Argentina 🌟 Yes the white powder is carbonate. Violet liquid is spirit, kind of a pure alcohol. It is not oily, does not stain and is volatile. Nice to see you here 🗜️⚒️🌟🌿🍀

У меня вопрос. Зачем нужно было укорачивать и так короткую ручку, ведь с помощью клина всё отлично бы держалось?
конец ручки был сильно поврежден. Я предпочел сократить его из подходящего места вместо заполнения. На видео это не очень заметно, но это была короткая, бутиковая и функциональная ручка. рад видеть тебя здесь. Спасибо за ваши мысли. 🌟🗜️⚒️🐾

Boy that handle got shorter and shorter and shorter
I didn't want to make new handle, so ı had to the use the short form. Short but looks nice 🙃⚒️🗜️🌟 nice to see you here Mark 🐾
Sorry but this is an embellishment not a restoration . By sawing off a piece from the hammer handle on both sides, you completely changed the balance between the hammer head and the length of the handle. This hammer may look better than before but has almost completely lost its function. Nevertheless love the camerawork and the shop.

Was good until the fake ending. The nail was alreaady hammered in the wood and the one hit was further down the wood than the nail was. All in all, a good restoration. But, cutting hte handle down so it would fit the head made the proportion of the hammer look wrong.

@@byOldHand I must say, it was a good restoration. At least it wasnt all polished to a mirror shine and make into a shelf queen. It still has some character to it. Well done. One day, I will finally get one of these hammer heads to use.
@@ianallen2 Thank you Ian, as you said I like the time marks on the metal, old but handsome , so I leave them always if it is possible. Just like my axe video 👌🏻👌🏻
That handle is way too short for that size hammer head. I appreciate the work that went into it, but you would have been much better off just making a new handle. It's pretty easy to do, and you would have ended up with a much better balanced tool and a truer restoration.
