Only Us
When bells of shame have faded
And I remain reviled
Let vengeance roar for blood and war
Behind a scornful smile
The vow, the kin, the rival
A vision violent, vile
These questions three have haunted me
Since I was but a child
So much I have lost and so much I resent
My spite became the steps upon the stairway of descent
Let it all burn down around us
Let the cruel consume the just
Let the sin we swim in drown us
Let the world shatter
Into dust
Nothing else matters
Only us
When kings have long been buried
When vows have long been lost
When the night brings fear then the lion’s tears
Shall fall on fire and frost
This hopeless doomed devotion
The poison that I crave
I jilt the new to return to you
Endure you till my grave
I’m no man of honor, my guilt runs dark and deep
My oaths betray each other till there’s nothing left to keep
Let it all burn down around us
Let the cruel consume the just
Let the sin we swim in drown us
Let the world shatter
Into dust
Nothing else matters
Only us
And they will raze our towers
And spit upon our names
And the ravens black over the fields of ash
Will whisper our tales of shame
Let it all burn down around us
Let the cruel consume the just
Let the sin we swim in drown us
Let the world shatter
Into dust
Nothing else matters
Only us

    • I don’t know if I‘d say ‚favorite‘ and ‚incestuous‘ in the same sentence. Although Jamie had one of my favorite character arcs. I miss the seasons now, at least there are the books... although Martin will likely go the way of Robert Jordan.

I'm curious about your thoughts on the finale overall, could you or have you already voiced those thoughts somewhere on the internet?

Jon and Dany had nothing toxic in their relationship, because they both cared for each other reasonably (not above their beliefs) and they helped make each other better people. When one of them snapped the other let go of them. While Jaime wasn't toxic to cersei, Cersei was the definition of toxic person. The one you know is using you, but you can't seem to let go of no matter what they do to you. Jamie's relationship with Cersei was so destructive and toxic that she destroyed his whole life. Some people didn't like that Jaime seem to go back and forth on his character arc; to me, it's a good example of toxic and abusive relationship. Jaime just CAN'T get away from Cersei, as much as some part of him wish he could. This song is amazing, you still are the master.

  • I think this masterpiece perfecly portrays Cersei an Jaime's toxic relationship. That's what I admired the most about their relationship, even though it's wrong to do so. "The poison that I crave" Jaime knows very well that Cersei will be the end of him, like Olenna said. In both the books and the show, they portray the vanity and the narcissism, illustrated by incest between siblings. They love each other so much, they don't care anymore about the rest of the world. They can't change what they think about them, so "Let it all burn down around us".

    • yeah, there is no sugar coating, it is destructiv but even without hitting what we percive as the check boxes for love, that is waht it is. We do not love people for beeing good, or because it is right, or for it tells a good story . . . we just due and in that there is no choice! There is a choice in how to act on it for sure, but not concerning the feeling itself and Jaimes confidence that his love is just as valid as everyone elses makes it so intruiging. He is compleatly unappologetic about it, compleatly comfortable with beeing loves bitch. What he does about is wrong, he feels guilty for that, but never for loveing her. My favorit line of his concerning Cercei is that when he was younger he had seen her as the maiden he wanted to protect, now he knowes she is the stranger, but his feelings are still the same.

It's not about the ending, Bran the Broken, Danny's tyranny, John returning to wall - very cool and fitting endings on paper apart from fact there was no setup that made them "earned". Ned's death was understandable as he entered the game he didn't know how to play. Rob's deaths reflects counter to "Love is death of duty" where he lost his path, same goes for his mother. Oberyn died the moment his passion towards vengeance against Tywin clouded his warriors mind. Show told us beforehand's it will happen we just didn't want to accept it, show established all of this - cause and consequences. Tyrion has been joke since he met Danny. Littlefinger died like some noob, not a dude who kicked off whole GOT plot. Vary's "Master" of whispers went face to face with Jon saying "she mad you tru king, teik tron!" And always remember your name when asked about my favourite contemporary poets. Your lyrics does not simply refer to one character or one particular film, game etc. It is genuinely human and has a genuine appeal to all the people, to humanity, because it deals with everlasting problems of life and death, good and evil, human fate, choice, liberty, justice... When I listen to your songs I feel that they appeal to me. And it is me whose spite led do desent, not someone else to blame. Thank you so much! "When winter comes", "Halfman's song", "Mother of flames", "When the wolves cry out" and "No one". Every last one of them had this theme at the beginning of their song, so similar and yet so different, like a good story told multiple times but with slight differences that makes you appreciate each one in a different way. Another piece of masterwork for the ages. One that you and Karliene can be very proud of. Hope that you still have more insiration in store for one or two song about the game of thrones universe. Maybe something like "From summer child to winter queen" or "Broken king". I think its the closure that we all really need for this fantastic show.

He's done so many vile things for Cersei, which speaks to the depth of their love. Even if she might not have loved him as much, he loved her like he had, nobody else. • Would anyone believe me if I said by season 8, Jaime and Cersei were the only characters I cared for? EDit: Obviously Podrick, Brienne and Davos, and I liked Grey Worm and Missandei, but they were the only two CHARACTERS I cared for by this point.

    • @@Matakshaman Well, I'm not going to argue that point here; but even if they could have done well but just didn't, that still means they were bad at their job. The theoretical ability is much less relevant than the practical achievement.

  • I translated this song into Russian, I hope you don't mind. Cannot stop listening to it XD
