Repairing a Deep SCRATCH in Car Paint | DIY Key Scratch Fix
Car got keyed? So did mine. In today's video, I'm going to show you how to improve OR remove a deep scratch in your vehicles paintwork. This is PRO paint scratch repair method that I've done countless times. Perfect for scratches that haven't gotten to bare metal, I'll show you how to sand, polish, and protect the scratched area.
People who key cars are the absolute worst. A deep key scratch could result in thousands of dollars at a body shop. My 4Runner was keyed by someone who wanted bad karma, but fortunately this happened to someone who fixes this stuff often. This particular scratch didn't make it to bare metal which means there's hope to fix it. I show you how to identify a fixable scratch, when paint touch up is necessary, and the tools and technique to do it. I also show you how to touch up a ceramic coating if your car was coated as well.
We got pretty lucky with this one with roughly a 90% improvement. Much cheaper than a trip to the body shop, and the paint on this car will still be original. If this scratch was any deeper, I would have opted for the Dr. Colorchip system that I've used in several other videos. If you don't feel comfortable attempting this DIY fix on your own, I highly recommend visiting a Pro detailer before the bodyshop! You never know what can be sanded and polished out.

Very good job and video. My brand new Corolla got keyed on the roof, two feet long today. Very upsetting but I got most of it out with some compound, then polished. There is a special place for people who key cars for the sick thrill of it. Guess it's because they know they'll never be able to afford a new car.

He really did. I've been watching videos all evening to find products to repair scratches. Since I noticed a white line on my driver's side door below the handle.It's just so overwhelming to see the damage, especially when you make it a point to be so careful.I wouldn't even make an attempt. I would definitely make the damage worse than it is. I'm definitely saving this video. Maybe I can hire a reliable person to follow his instructions on this video. It would be less expensive than going to a collision shop. I wish I was confident and capable enough to do this myself.

polish with a wool pad followd up with polsihing with foam pad, is that the typically order? i never know when to use the wool pad that came with my polisher.
"Least aggressive method" applies to cleaning also. The more aggressive can lead to damage that you can't come back from.

Hi! Question I have a similar issues on my truck! Will Rupes uno advance be ok to use after I sand it down with my 3000 grit sand paper? Or should I use Adams heavy compound? Thanks
Got my RSX in a auction, when I went to go pick it up I noticed there was a plastic sheet covering the passenger door because I guess when the organization that sets up these car auctions received the RSX, they couldn’t bother use a battery jumper and simply roll up the window, instead someone’s bright mind decided to use this plastic sheet and when cutting it, his knife made contact with the body of the car and left a good 30 inch key scratch on the door lol.

Bro that blows….. I hate door dingers, purse smackers, let me squeeze in here etc…. In the past I went to target to get a sweater. Wasn’t in there no more than 10min. I came out and my car had been keyed from head light to headlight. I was so pissed. Insurance didn’t want to fix it cause it was deep and the whole car needed to be resprayed….
someone keyed my car down the whole length, and then made a cute little zig zag at the end- I hope its not to deep, I am going to give this a go. People are fuckin crzy, man
The ceramic coat definitely helped in the scratch not being too deep. Would be interesting to test this definitively to see exactly how much.

ROFL~ This is not a deep scratch! A typical buffer with an orange foam pad can make the scratch disappear in a few passes. You don't even need a sand paper to do it.
