Episode 1 - TFR7 is the very last Austin Healey Works racing Sprite built in Warwick UK by the Donald Healey company in 1969. This car is the last in a series of cars built specifically for the Targa Florio, a 45 mile winding public road race on the Island of Sicily in Italia. This car was the the pinnacle of the Sprite’s development through competitive racing and hosts many innovations that were intended for the consumer version of the Sprite, but sadly never made it into production.
This video is the first in a series which will give you an in-depth and up close look at what Geoff and Donald were envisioning for the Sprites by examining not only this car, but also the very last Le Mans coupe built in the prior year of 1968. The history of these two cars is rich, and the innovations are intriguing. Look for other upcoming episodes in this series

  • I love to see history like this. The days of simple cars and classic design. I love my bugeye sprite

  • What a superb piece of history, both racing history and Sprite history and MG history. Glad you're such a good caretaker of these cars.

  • Thanks for putting these videos out and helping preserve the history of these cars! I look forward to seeing the rest! Always love seeing these cars on the grid with us and hearing those bad @ss engines sing.

  • A delight to find your video. I read about these cars about 40 years ago and still have the book. I had a Lenham front end and a 5 speed on my 74 round wheel arch car but other modifications were out of budget for a student. It's great that these cars still exist and even better that you race them. Many thanks for sharing.

  • I was part of the Waldron pit crew from Boca Raton. I think this is the car we attempted to run it at Sebring. It was covered with cosmolene and I had the job of getting it ready to paint it. Chris Waldron painted it BRG with yellow stripes as were the 2 MGB's the Waldron team had.

    • Wow! Yes, it was rebadged as an MG too. I bet it was no fun removing all that cosmolene! I guess the put that on the car for the boat trip from the UK? Do you know Reggie Smith?

  • Thank you, Steve for these very interesting videos! I hadn’t heard of this particular AH, so your detailed coverage is fascinating! I showed a couple of the short clips of Ozzie to my wife - she said she would like a separate video dedicated to the shop dog! ;-) Keep up the good work!

  • These later sprite racers have always been a mystery to me. It’s great you are filming them in detail. Thanks so much. So does the cam and the fuel distributor have to be in a certain position when you install that belt?

    • Hi..and thanks for watching....and YES...they have to be lined up properly to "time" them just like you would an ignition distributor. Cheers...

  • Lovely video but I think you are taking a bit of a liberty with Geoff’s words saying the injection was destined for production. The way he wrote it shows it wasn’t! He kept a low profile about the engine development because people could now assume it was more alike their road going spridget
