MAX COOPER
Thanks for having a look at the first video from my next audio-visual album coming later this year. The whole project was a commission from the Barbican centre in London, where they do a lot of great events, I've seen many of my favourite gigs there. So I wanted to prepare something special, and something intense, using the structure of the beautiful hall there as a canvas for the show. Their brief was around emerging new technologies and how they're changing society, so I tried to boil the whole process down to its fundamentals which I could visualise and write music for - which spawned "yearning for the infinite". The idea being that we're locked in our societal- and nature-driven pursuit of growth and knowledge and more, always more. I had come across some really beautiful ideas for visualising the infinite which I'll tell you more about later as the content comes, and I decided to combine these abstract visualisations with stories of us, in our endless activity as part of the systems in which we exist. This also gave me the potential for the scale and intensity I wanted to create for the project. This particular chapter comes later on in the show when both the human story and the abstractions (transcendental digits from Martin Krzywinski, aperiodic tiling from Jessica In and dividing surfaces from Andy Lomas) start to merge. The great visual artist and long term collaborator Nick Cobby had time in Mexico city which seemed an amazing opportunity to capture this dense human activity, and once again he's created another of his tightly synced and detailed masterpieces, many thanks Nick! I recommend watching on a big screen where possible. Lots more to come soon, thanks for watching and listening.
NICK COBBY
Max's idea for Perpetual Motion was to document the continuous movement of people, exploring how there is no inherent meaning in life, only our own meaning which we create through striving towards our goals. When we discussed the idea of the film, Max and I felt Mexico City was the perfect place to use as a canvas. A sprawling metropolis of 9 million people, all packed in tight and some really interesting land forms and architecture. I then got the idea of using drones when scouting for locations on Google Earth. There were some amazing geometric forms that when viewed from above give an entirely different perspective of the city. I was really interested in the juxtaposition of these orderly forms with the irregular, disorderly chaos confined within it. For me it really helped push the idea of living as part of a perpetual system. I collaborated with 3 very talented Mexican photographers who shot some incredible footage for me, Manuel Marañón, Roberto H and Santiago Arau. It was a pleasure to collaborate with them and I hope the film can be shown in Mexico some time soon. For the animation side, I collaborated with Andy Lomas and Jessica In, integrating their forms frame by frame into the drone footage with my own point data, aiming to create unexpected transitions and connections between reality, hyper realism and the hidden systems beneath.

This song has so much emotion with no words. Don’t know how else to describe it
This man is a wonder of the earth. Thank you max cooper!
“These are some of the things that hydrogen atoms do, given fifteen billion years of cosmic evolution.”
I wasn't aware we were 100% Hydrogen, or that sixteen billion years ago nothing existed. Thanks!

MAX COOPER: God of intelligent dance music and ambient bliss. The video art that accompanies his music is always so sublime and compelling too...
he's not, and that's not a bad thing. I love the IDM genre, in that there are many geniuses operating within it.
Kudos to the creators of this music vid. Watched the making of this vid and im in awe of how passionate and excited you artists are in creating something so visually stunning. Keep on making magic! Loving every max cooper video and his trancelike music. Takes me to a place of peace and wonder.
Thank your for giving us an interstellar musical experience,
Mexico City!!!! Yeah!!! Please come back soon Max ;)
Just pure escapism for me.. Your music and the visual delights bring me pure joy.. Just Beautiful. Many many thanks for all you do. When the clouds move in I listen and watch and I'm lifted.
Same for me. I'm in a pit of despair at the moment, but this music and video lifts me up regardless......and wow the effort and detail that must have gone into that video! It's mesmerising, especially towards the end.
This song helped me through the period from march '20 till present. My dad was diagnosed with corona and his survival rate was in total after 3 days intensive care 5%. Before I had a fight or better an emotional distance with my dad. When I heard this from him, I cried so many tiimes that he survived it. Best free gift the universe gives you now a days. This song sets me back with my feet locked on the ground. Realizing that life is worth living even if you make mistakes. Thank you for this!
the light bless him and you too, regards from malaysia fam, keep healthy, and stay strong.
Yo feels insane reading this comment a year later. glad everything worked out. sendin love

Wow....absolutely incredible. Thank you for such beauty during rather tumultuous times on Mother Earth. Gorgeous track. Gorgeous vid.
At first I couldn't believe it was shot in Mexico City, it gave me chills and I felt really proud and amazed. Excellent work!! Sigue así hermano!! 🇲🇽🇲🇽
I love this whole concept of artists exploring ideas together. Looks and sounds fantastic.
I wonder if the architects and engineers who built these cities and roads imagined a future of floating robots and camera views from these high angles? It's fascinating to watch, and the sense of motion is so incredibly visceral. Really enjoyed this video.
Your works are genius. You are inspiring a lot of people with your work who will continue this chain. Thank you. 🙏
I second this. And if I didn't know any better I would say there is some Andrew Bayer inspiration in his works.

yesssssss
i knew that there was a reason i woke up so early, needed to find some gold.. thank you forever for this, i will be waking up to it & your other masterpieces from here on out!
This song felt like a calming red and circles in a dark place, where each beat makes black circles ripple out and there's an occasional rip of..breaking? glitching? Like in into the spiderverse but much less painful and the happy beat is like sunshine, like the red and black is the ground and the sky is a happy day and none of it is scary or anything, not even the glitching. The little sounds wake you up as you feel them across your shoulders and chest and neck.
went to the concert at the Barbican on saturday night. Absolutely amazing. Highly recommend it if it comes to your city.
Damnit. The visuals are beyond amazing. Give that guy a huge salary! WOW. The music fits perfectly too!
I could swear this is a moog sub 37 synth here, if so this is probably the most beautiful thing anyone's ever done with it.

Max Cooper, I love your music. This is the kind of stuff I make in my head, but I'm a million years off being able to make anything like this, or get any of my ideas out. I love your experimental and conceptual approach to music, drawing from different inspriations and disciplines and I love how your music triggers an emotional response without words, especially this one. You're a truly inspirational artists, one I imagine I could have been like. I've only just found your music, through your association with Rob Clouth, I torrented a song of his years ago, "Deep Field". An amazing track and one i have recently come back to, I hoped to find more similar music, (now that I've aged a bit, dubstep doesn't do it for me anymore!) And that's how I found your music. I now intend to buy most of your work from bandcamp, funny how things work oumusic Keep on producing, you're on an amazing journey and I'm loving hearing your work and really excited to hear the development of your sound. (Great videos too btw!) All the best
very deep ^_^
i feel like a prospector that, after years of searching, finally struck gold!
