I finally live in a world where the Lions are dominating the NFC North while the Packers and Partriots are falling apart
I still can’t believe it
The trade for Jared Goff wasn't that bad after all. Not to mention the Lions finally have great players at almost every position instead of just a few.
If we would go back to the younger versions of ourselves to say what you just did. I think we would all just cry 😂.
I recall when the Patriots were awful. Knowing what you know maybe better to focus on what you can control and build in your life. NFL is fun but ultimately not much different than playing video games. The effects on your life are to subtract time.
1991 seems so long ago now.
There’s no other running back who can brush off tacklers better than Barry Sanders
Jim Brown, Mike Alstott, Marshawn Lynch, Walter Payton, Adrian Peterson
@@christwarrior8501 Great running backs, but Barry was still the best.
@@usnairframer He said no one was better than brushing off tackles than Barry Sanders, which is wrong. And if you’re referring to best running back, that’s Walter Payton.
@@christwarrior8501 Barry Sanders was unequivocally the best. Walter Payton was great, but Sanders was objectively better in essentially every way. He simply didn't play as long. Sanders wasn't a power back, but people consistently had hands on him and couldn't bring him down.
@@usnairframer Walter Payton did more with less in a tougher game. Payton had to run for his life and would run through opponents effortlessly. The only traits Sanders has better than Payton are elusiveness and speed, every thing else goes to Payton. Walter Payton is the toughest and greatest running back to step on the field. There's no one who compares to Payton, no one who rivals the heart he had. Defenders would try everything they could to stop Payton but couldn't.
When did Barry Sanders *NOT* single-handedly carry the Lions during his career?
1995
When the lions had receivers like Morton, Moore, Perriman etc.
This isn't a 49er video. Go away
@@Wolf_3125 I can comment wherever tf I want
@@JahNuhThunDeeTheOneAndOnly You can comment on whatever the heck you want. It's always fun to know which teams are in trouble or DOOMED if they start certain QB's.
I don't know if I'd say single handedly. The D showed up hard, and that passing game put in some work, too.
Barry was like no one else. Completely odd they waited until the 2nd half to really feed him the ball - that offset single-back formation is also very odd! The 90s were a wild time in NFL offenses.
Back when they didn't baby quarterbacks. This was football. Unfortunately, Barry didn't have much of a team around him. That man was phenomenal.
Detroit had two generational talents in Barry and Megatron. They could never get over the hump.
There's only a few guys you can say with confidence are the 🐐's of their respective positions in sports and Barry Sanders is certainly one of them. What a legend
Pretty impressive to be 4-5 at week 5
They made the playoffs that year and lost to the Packers 16-12
I love how NFL throwback posts throwbacks of games that match upcoming matchups of the week. It helps build up hype.
Dude couple weeks ago i watched the ol LOB game vs giants and later that night seattle went off for 11 sacks and 3 picks😂
Barry was incredible, no doubt, but the Lions had some talent in the 90s outside of him with guys like Moore, Spielman, Porcher etc. Just never had a quarterback
Barry Sanders highlights are too fun. The defenders always look so overmatched. Every time it looks like they've stopped him short of a 1st down, he gets another 20 yards! I was two years old when this game took place, and he is one of those players "I wish I could've watched live"!
Sanders set records for rushing more than 1,000 yards in 10 straight seasons, for rushing 1,500 yards or more in 5 different seasons (and the first to do so in 4 consecutive seasons), and for rushing more than 100 yards in 14 consecutive game. He always carried them
Barry the Lion King 👑🦁
Such a skillful back, he literally carried them on many occasions.
Name one because he definitely did not carry them in this game.
@@christwarrior8501wtf are you talking about? Yes he did lol
@@shawnzinator He carried them this game? How is that? His defense stopped the Bucs offense and his offense did well without him scoring a touchdown so please explain.
That’s often the narrative that Barry “carried” the Lions. But during his 9 year career, Detroit made the playoffs 5 of those years. Detroit had a solid to good defense led by Chris Spielman and they also had two pro bowl caliber receivers in Herman Moore and Brett Perriman. Barry was obviously the most valuable player on the entire team, but there was at least enough talent to where Barry wasn’t essentially doing it ALL by himself.
See Barry sanders was a game changer
Barry being Barry
Barry's 200 yard 2nd half was the culmination of one of the great Sundays in NFL history all but 1 Sunday game was decided by a touchdown or less which included Drew Bledsoe's historic 45 completions on 70 attempts in a 20-0 comeback OT win, a huge Chargers/Chiefs AFC West showdown, a thrilling Falcons/Saints shootout, the Bears upset win in Miami, and the Cowboys/49ers clash of the titans.
What a cool uniform game. I can’t wait to watch this matchup on Sunday.
Lomas Brown was asked, was the Seattle game this year the loudest he’s ever heard at a home game. He replied that the Silverdome was even louder in the 90s. As you can hear the crowd, he’s right! Lol
Kinda looks like the Defense helped too. No doubt he’s one of the best to ever do it. Unmatched agility and acceleration!
Those creamsicle uniforms... can't wait to see them come back this season.
Would love to c the creamsicle pants w the white tops come back, those joints r clean
they're coming back on this sunday lions vs buccs game. i think they wore them two weeks ago as well
@@raccoonmoder Are you talking about the Eagles game?
Could you imagine if we had a prime Barry with this team? The blocking of the O line with this current receiving group? I think even the Niners would struggle to stop that.
And when you add un the fact that guys don't tackle as well today due to lack of practice contact, Barry would be insane
@@zmanr2090but would Barry be as elusive if he wasn't being chased by mean human refrigerators who could run a 4.7 40?
I wonder if Barry's style would benefit from a big time offensive line. Barry was that kind of back who relied on breaking out a huge run rather than gaining consistent yardage.
@@whatisahandle_69 good point
He didn't have bad Wide Receivers around him then. Herman Moore had three straight years of 100 catches and 4 time Pro Bowler and Brett Perriman and Johnny Morton was pretty good themselves.
This is gonna be one interesting matchup…
Greatest to ever run the ball!
Those Buccaneers uniforms were a thing of beauty. That shade of orange was so unique
5:57 and 8:43 Wow. Breaking tackles and so explosive. 9:25 "Barry has never had the passing game to complement his running. Never had the great offensive line."
How much better, do you think, Barry's numbers would be if he was playing behind the current Lions O-Line?
@@HughHarding46 Hell ya. Not just that. With Goff's arm, no team could 8 or 9 man box him. Can u imagine? LOL
The Lions Defense called, asking "Did you not see us holding TB to 3 points in the first half?"
You're right, but it's also the bucs in the 90s and they never scored a lot.
The Player Audio sounding like Tecmo Superbowl on SNES great memories. Wish Barry Sanders could have won a Super Bowl such an elusive runner
Barry Sanders is one of the greatest players to ever play the game
NFL Throwback is spoiling us with their amazing classic game highlights EVERY DAY! KEEP EM COMING @NFLVault
I think this video is mis-titled. I’d say the Lions defense carried them. He may had a great day, an exceptional day… but the defense saved 11 points in the early goings when it should have been 14-0 and instead it was 3-0 at halftime. But Barry Sanders was great. Unfortunately wasted in Detroit. But he’s a class guy and never’d say that.
In the open field they had to horse collar this man to keep him from scoring. Barry would average 3,000 on todays NFL.
The 1994 Dave Krieg was one of the best QBs the 90s Lions had, if only for part of the season. That QB really traveled around the league once he left Seattle!
Now they facing in playoffs
imagine what Barry in his prime could do with the O Line the Lions have now... 3k yards
Just as amazing as Barry's career is that he walked away with his health intact, and has never sought the spotlight since.
I’ve been waiting too long to see both of these teams to go back to these unis.
Barry Sanders was for so many years the ONLY real weapon the Lions had. I still say Sweetness was the best RB of all time but no one beats Sanders for sheer electrifying excitement!
That’s not true. At all. They had Herman Moore a fantastic WR his entire career almost and paired him with Brett Perriman and guys like Rodney Holman at TE. And contrary to popular belief, his oline was a lot better than people remember, anchored by multiple time Pro Bowlers Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover. He was great. As a runner. Average receiver, below average blocker and far too often went off script on runs which is how he ended up with -1 yards in a completely winnable playoff game later this year in Green Bay.
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 You're right there but just about every year of his career the Lions were saddled with QBs who weren't any great shakes and while those receivers were great in their time they've become stat compilers more than "great" players as time passes by. You are absolutely correct about the O-line. It was a lot better than most people remember certainly way better than the line Payton had to play in front of for years. The off script nature of Sanders is why I put him behind Payton and E. Smith as well.
People forget the Lions had other weapons on offense beside Barry. Brett Perriman and Herman Moore was very good receivers.
Funny to see Martin Mayhew and John Lynch trying to tackle Barry. Now they are in GMs in the NFL
This game was in week 11 of '94 season.
There will never be another RB like Barry Sanders! ❤
Imagine what Barry's record would have been if he played longer...let's say 7-10 year's...🤯
He would have CTE for a record everyone knows belongs to him.
Your Videos 📸 Never Disappoint Me NFL Throwback Keep Up The Good Work
ESPN Sunday Night Football! Gotta love Mike Patrick and this era of SNF, so underrated
Him and Theisman were so smooth together.
Barry moves like he got on the cheat codes! :)
I was at this game, still have the ticket stubs saved ❤
6:25 Dude gets his first touchdown in the NFL and he can't even celebrate it because he was injured in the process. ...That about sums up the Lions' entire Superbowl Era. Hopefully they're turning it around for good this year to some degree.
*Used to love ERRICT RHETT* he had a big rookie year in 1994
That's true, I remember him being touted as the next great running back
@@bobbypadia2933 his 2nd year was even better, good times
Expecting a Lions win on the road against these same Buccaneers and their same jerseys so fitting going into week 6 2023.
My GOAT! 🐐
Had no idea ESPN owned Sunday Night Football before NBC. Thats really cool
I think the Lions' history goes to show that football is an extremely hard game to BS your way through. Here we see not just a superstar, but a super DUPERstar at his best, and it's good enough to win here, but even with his tremendous talent he has only a couple of playoff appearances to show for it. This year the Lions have serious hope, not because of one super duperstar, but because of an honest-to-God team effort not relying on one or two people to carry the load. It's harder to do, but it's worth it. That being said, man, Barry might be the most fun-to-watch player in NFL history.
This is a classic highlights for Barry Sanders running the ball 26 times for 237 yards. Also, he ran the ball for 200 yards in the first half. There is no running back who can run the ball like the way Barry does. They beat the Buccaneers 14-9! This game go back to the year 1994!
Was at this game, it was a Sunday night game, I just turned 16 and my buddy and I drove to Pontiac to see the game! 200 yards in the 2nd half
Buccs need to bring these unis back full time. Clean and classic.
That run where Barry had John lynch diving at ghosts, was unreal..
This wasn't week 5, this was week 11. The Lions lost to the Buccaneers 24-14 in week 5.
That also was the first punt return for a TD in Bucs history
you watching D Mo? We love you and we're counting on you this Sunday! One Pride Baby!
What’s the most amazing thing about this is Barry Sanders career was done on painted concrete. That turf was horrendous.
Not sure he "single-handedly" led them to a win but damn could he break a game open.
As a Buccaneers fan you are going to have to be more specific. That could describe almost any game Barry Sanders played against the Buccaneers.
Those old Tampa Bay uniforms are 🔥. I hope eventually alot of teams like Tampa, Rams, Titans/Oilers, Eagles, Falcons, Dolphins, Cardinals and a few others will change back to their old school better looking uniforms
Unfortunately, the Bucs' record is terrible in the creamsicles.
I think this was week 10. My God those bucs jerseys were majestic
This is week 11. Same week as The Dallas-SF showdown.
Love those old school Bucs unis!!
Imagine if you will Barry on Dallas or Barry on the then St. Louis Rams, when they had the Greatest Show on Turf. Unstoppable
I miss Barry Sanders playing in the NFL they ran with the ball taken a 5 loss a making a long run
can we talk about those two goal line stands by the Lions Defense in the first half?
Never knew the bucs old uniforms included orange pants. Legit the time I've seen that
Fittingly, The Lion King movie released the same year. Barry eclipsed 2K+ yards from scrimmage that year, and won the rushing title.
everyone was so big and strong. even the receivers are huge and yoked
Bigger shoulder pads
Barry is the only back that could run 15 yards backwards and turn it into a 60 yard gain, consistently
235 yards and 0 touchdowns! Wow!
Barry and Hardy used to go at it all the time, Barry is the nicest guy but i remember him get at least 1 personal foul for kicking hardy in the face, so funny
Anyone notice the tackle made on Barry around the 2m mark that saved a touchdown was by.....Martin Mayhew?!?
First half they hardly used Barry, was expecting all Barry highlights. My god who calls a draw play on 4th and 2 at goal, terrible playing calling. Lions didnt know how to fully use Barry Sanders. If he was on a better team, Sanders wouldve broken so many more records. Imagine him on the 49ers with Jerry Rice.
8:30 omgoodness wt a beast
What's wrong with the ESPN audio? All the signals and crowd noise is amplified.
The audio quality isn’t the best, but the sounds of the players, the crowd, the game. It’s much easier to hear than today. They should go back to mic the field.
Video quality looks good but the audio sounds garbled. I remember seeing lots of footage of this game posted 11 years ago (with better sound) but its likely been taken down.
Good game
I went to the game in Tampa Oct 12 1997. I believe he rushed for more in Tampa.
Forgot Kreig had a time in detroit lol
Record day for Bledsoe😎
8:53 Odd to see what would become one of our future GM tackling Sanders
Both these franchises need to bring back these uniforms.
Could you imagine having Barry now? Thrown Calvin and Herman in there also and Detroit would be unstoppable!!
funny.....video is about Barry and yet it takes until 4:20 in until we see a Barry Sanders run
Because he did most of his damage in the 2nd half.
according to some sources, this game was in week 11, not in week 5
Got a young Derrick Brooks and John Lynch on Tampa's defense.
Barry Sanders Is A True Detroit Lions🦁💙🩶Legend
6:05 major facemask penalty
Those Bucs creamsicle uni’s are fire
And this year, the Lions traveled to Tampa Bay and dismembered the Bucs as a team. I’ll take today with the Lions at their best since the Fords bought the team in 1958. Go Lions!
Players who hit the turf hard come up looking like they just hit a concrete wall
Barry must've looked at the Bucs on the calendar each year and just mentally chalked up another 200 yards. Two times when they were in the division.
BARRY! BARRY! BARRY!
Barry’s offensive line was BAD but look at his wide receivers blocking downfield set up the angles properly block properly. Barry gets past the first wave with 4 broken tackles and then he’s clear because WRs block
wow so the sound capture on ESPN games has been terrible all the back to 1994
The old nfc central division
