Rise of the Reds -- or ROTR for short -- is an ambitious project that started all the way back in 2004, when Red Army started a mod that implemented a resurgent Russian Federation into the universe of Command & Conquer Generals.

  • For those who are wondering about the "plot" of the main menu map, it is a joint Chinese-US assault (Operation Double Tap/Battle of Kurmuk) on a supposed missile silo. It turns out that it wasn't a missile silo, but a huge auto-cannon named Tremor AGAS (Advanced Grand Artillery System, the Russians' superweapon building), which tore every massive frontal Chinese assault piece by piece, while the backdooring US troops failed to eliminate the inner defenses by the rear guard because of the flanking Shock Divisions. The GLA meanwhile were like, "the fuck happenin over there?", but later on managed to push the Russians out of Kurmuk.

  • I swear the AI in this mod is hella brutal and wayyyyy more hard then the AI in C & C zero hot alone on hard. Even on the lowest difficulty settings, man it puts up a real fight and acully using every thing at disposal....I wonder how they programmed the AI? But all in all if y'all gonna use this mod, prepare for a real fight

    • And that's why I always put it in Med or hard difficulty P.S. If you ply on hard and brutal difficulty Make sure your pc is fast enough to play the Hard Army it causes lag because they build outnumbered units

    • They use every hidden skills in CnC like Jarmen kell heli attacks,comanchee rocket pod attack,using chaff countermeasures and smoke launchers on Russian tanks.me when first time play this game,,get rekt by a medium AI .This is even harder with the unavailability of auto-stealth detect by fixed ground defence.

    • Nah, the harder AI belongs to the one in Contra. They're right to call the hardest one insane. Even on easy, the AI team will manage to build 3 arms dealers, and a fuckload of units.

    • While there is a Generals wikipedia, a ROTR version is also there. The shell map is known as Operation Double Tap, a joint Chinese US assault into an alleged missile silo. Speaking of alleged, when they reached the site, it's not a missile silo, it's a gigantic cannon (Tremor AGAS) that ripped every Chinese wave one by one, leaving the smaller US strike teams outnumbered by the already-dug Russian defenders.

    • I believe this is happened when China spot a Russian "nuclear facility" located very near to Chinese borders.So they requested help from USA and led a joint-attack forces to destroy this facility which turned out that this is not a Nuclear facility but a Tremor AGAS facility.And others you can see in the video :)

  • This is what Generals 2 should've been, just like how Mental Omega should've been Red Alert 3 and Tiberium Essence for that atrocity that is C&C4. But no instead we get shit for official games, while fanmade mods have proven themselves to be a thousand times more superior.

    • @@louievelayo4100 Red Alert 3 is a good game, but it went to much towards micromanagement and individual unit abilities as they tried to mimic Starcraft in an attempt to have a grab at the E-Sports scene. That was the main issue of RTS' during those years all tried to be the next E-Sport and grab the young audiences with no regard to how these franchises suffered.

  • I wish these guys were allowed to make Generals 2 as this would more than qualify as a worthy sequel! This mod is just fantastic and it actually does have quite the story behind it too (See Rise Of The Reds wiki). The Mod itself is set after Zero Hour. :D

  • Wow! This mod seems legitly amazing. It makes me sad that I can't run it since it requires the fixed launchers, and I accidentally changed what i open my files with by default and no one seems to know how to fix that issue....but seriously, this mod looks great! I've seen some gameplay of the EU faction, and I have to say that, except for the fact that some of the unit voices are taken from RA3, it looked great.

    • +Yoshitsune Cr I hope the goalkeeper turret will be added soon. Those defense lines will need that anti-artillery and anti-missile coverage, if they want to be viable in the long run. I like to turtle with the ECA, but I just find their offensive capabilities lacking, unless we're talking the current pandora-buffed solar array. That thing's a monster. Although I have fell out of practice. I succumb to a brutal GLA on 1v1.

    • Dual Wield to be fair, i think ECA with Manticore Tank have really good Offensive power, but i agree with you the lacking of options to atack playing with europe.

    • Yoshitsune Cr Yeah, direct offense is difficult to make. (unless you go manticore, or venom I guess) ECA aircraft are no good assaulting a base, with even minor air defenses, and infantry aren't that great either. Then we have the leopards, gepards, pandurs and jagdmammuts. And they are squishy. I have the same problem, if I'm playing USA. China is doing okay with its overlords, with Russia being the offense king. While I appreciate each faction having specialities, that shouldn't handcap them in other areas so much I think.

    • I think they _might_ plan that eventually; but for now they're trying to finish making generals for each faction. 15 playable groups, that need to stay semi-balanced with eachother can't be easy.

  • ok, how would I go about playing these mods, basically any of the ones for CC? Do I 1st buy the game CC Generals? Then go to the MOD DB web site and choose which one then I want? Then follow the many online instructions for placing the mod into the CC files?

    • ​@@flyingsubmarine8334 I currently have the CC zero hours and I was able to download "The end of days" and played it for a year. But these new mods are real nice and I wanted to try a new one. That's where I goofed up I guess. I downloaded "The rise of the Reds" but fell short with running it. The launch portion showed up on my desktop, but when I went to start the game, it told me basically that I was unable due to missing files or something. So do I totally delete my game and buy a new one and start over?

    • @James I have tried those and I do what they say but the only thing that happens is that I see the icon on my desk top. Then when I click on it a pop up shows that there is something wrong. :( I will try again, maybe I can make this happen one way or another.

    • Ohh after you launched it from the RoTR launcher,you have to make sure that "quickstart"option is not highlighted simply by just keep clicking until there is no silhouette on that thing.Then,you will found this intro. Quickstart option is to avoid unnecessary lag as the battle are quite intense at the back with red guards flying to the sky.It will have a background of 2 Hakov AT helicopter at the back.
