Top Thrill 2 is opening next year, and I couldn't be more excited for it! But, ever since the announcement of the ride, there have been a few key aspects of the ride that just don't make sense to me. What are they? Watch to find out!
Thank you for watching!

  • Here's the thing though: they eliminated the part that flew off. The proximity plates that caused the accidents are no longer there. They replaced that entire system with a new, modernized digital proximity sensor system that doesn't require plates at all. The same kind of accident literally cannot happen again.

    • More importantly, Zamperla promised their new train design involving no welded parts, meaning either the whole train stays on or the whole train comes off, this is probably what saved cp from having to move the queue line as it eliminates the threat of any pieces falling off.

  • Its a financial decision. The ride is really gonna be costly to remove. Also the rides footprint isn't that big. The ride was popular and does have a high thrill. They did the best most affordable option they could... and we still have a ride over 400 feet. I think it's as good as it was gonna get. Let's go enjoy.

  • Another thing to keep in mind - Dragster's flat plate incident happened the same year CP closed Wicked Twister. This meant they could use the 2022 season to gauge how much the public missed it. So even though they were in discussions with Intamin, they probably decided taking a risk on Zamperla was value added because two launches wouldn't be an option with them. They'd be guaranteed a ride that reminds guests of Wicked Twister's launches while keeping the top hat of Dragster. Then, they'd only need to work with Intamin to the extend needed to maintain Maverick, Millie, and Wilderness Run. All while donating Wicked Twister's spares to Valleyfair! and Dorney. Not a bad deal, all things considered.

  • I'd hoped CP would repaint Dragster purple and rename it "UV: Ultimate Velocity". If you're effectively adding 2 straight sections at 90+ mph, it makes sense to sell the GP on how fast you're going. But I'm guessing CP instead wanted to remind guests how much of Dragster is staying the same. From the parking lot and entrance, the spike will *absurdly dominate* everything else around it. It's almost 3 TIMES as tall as Rougarou's lift hill! It's only when you reach the end of the main midway that the top hat will come into full view. And then the casual guest who hasn't been following any of construction updates can see the rest of the structure is the same.

  • The remodel was the final nail in the coffin after Cedar Point's long battle with the original dragster - they hated this ride the second it opened (as well as Intamin), and now they had an excuse to finally close it and axe the hydraulic launch system that was giving them so many problems.

    @hellacia8151@hellacia81516 ай бұрын
  • The accident was mostly just the final nail in the coffin for the remodel. The biggest reason is actual because they couldn't keep the damn thing running with the hydraulic system. I honestly think the remodel would have happened eventually no matter what because of Cedar Fair's shaky relationship with intamin and the horrible reliability issues, but the accident forced that timeline to speed up. I think the name was chosen because TTD was such a popular ride, they want people to still be drawn in by the Top Thrill Dragster name while still selling it as something different.

Assuming TTD was better: it was still the 4th best coaster in the park. No wonder America has a crack epidemic: they're obsessed with 3.8 seconds highs. Even crack lasts longer than that. Say no to drugs and just ride Steel Vengeance, consider riding it as part of your drug rehab therapy. 🙄

  • So a few points to make. The change from hydraulic to lsm. Anyone whose worked in a field with hydraulic systems in place knows how finnicky they can be. The littlest leak can cause a pressure drop enough to shut down these systems. Lsm launches are much more reliable as theyre just magnets + electricity. No pressure system involved. No valves, no massive rotating drum. No what was it.. 36 hydraulic motors? The downside of lsm is the power required for a launch equal to top thrills original launch is EXTREMELY excessive. So much so that the ride dubai that has an lsm launch that hits 112mph in 6 seconds basically has its own power grid with massive supercapaciters. The injury caused them to look into modernizing the ride and as they looked they realized there were so many issues that could be fixed and the culmination of the issues led to this revamp. The new trains will be lighter and require less maintenance as they will have 0 welds. Thats why they chose zamperla despite intamin lsm being a much more forceful launch (as evidenced when comparing motocoaster in darien lake to maverick At cedar point) Will this be a welcome change? Maybe maybe not. But it sure is a change that was needed for the ride. From a personal rider stand point, i look at it like this, to me the ride was worth it once per trip for the acceleration and then id go ride the maverick, steve, gatekeeper, etc all atleast 3+ times per trip. Now with these changes maybe the ride will be worth more rides per trip. Who knows tho

I went on the TTD in 2005 and while it is certainly a thrill and the coiling up and down the nearly vertical sides but in a sort of cage was unlike anything I've been on... BUT I've never really been psyched to go back on it. So replacing ride 1.0 with ride 2.0 is a big let down. It certainly wouldn't be my primary motivation to visit. I suppose the one way it DOES make sense, is that the original was rather popular and unique and they can learn a lot of lessons from what was the most problematic ride ever. • They altered the ride because it was costly to maintain and no doubt a constant headache, particularly with complaining guests. They wanted something more reliable. People need to realise that the ride wasn’t closed because of the accident. It was closed because it was unreliable and a maintenance nightmare.

    • Actually it was a combination of both. The accident accelerated closing that maintenance headache

    • @Livinthecoasterlife Then in that case it should have been gone a long time ago since the money dumped into that thing I'm sure didn't do anything for their bottom line and was no longer generating a positive ROI. More of a liability and with the 3rd accident, I'm betting it was a decision of get it working more than it's current state or get it outta here. Can't tell you how much money they sunk into that POS each operating MONTH!! Surprised the stockholders didn't call for its removal years ago either. Each time that Dumpster was down, it wad costing someone money. It's going to be interesting to see how it will be next year. And couldn't anyone come up with a better name??

    • Complaining guests wouldn't make any difference. I worked at Cedar Point and ran the Demon Drop, and that stupid ride was down a lot too (Intamin btw--coincidence? Hmm 😒!), to the point that we called it the Lemon 🍋 Drop!! People bitched about that being down left and right. But when it DID run, it was a good ride.

  • They used the accident as an excuse, the accident has zero to do with this. They used the accident as a way to try to cover up that they are doing this to eliminate paying maintenance costs for the hydraulic launch system. I think this is the biggest downgrade of all time. I honestly have zero excitement for this. Reopening the original was an option, but they decided to go the downgrade route instead. Cedar Point's best days are long behind them. Steel Vengeance was the last great coaster they'll ever open. I know, this sounds harsh, but it's the truth and the way I see it. Some will agree and others won't, but that’s ok.

    • the launch isn't as powerful. Unlike Dragster, which had that insane 120 miles per hour launch, Top Thrill 2 only hits around 70. You know, it's got people kind of disappointed, especially when they were expecting that same heart-pounding rush from the original. Some are saying it's because they went for a longer track, but sacrificed the intensity of the launch in the process. Roller coaster enthusiasts are a passionate bunch, and the weak launch of Top Thrill 2 has left them longing for the days when rides were all about those jaw-dropping moments. Let's see if it can live up to the legacy of its predecessor in the long run!

  • *Slightly* weaker launch? 🤣 Top Thrill Dragster - 0 to 60 in 1.5 seconds, and 0 to 120 mph in 3.8 seconds. Top Thrill Camry - 0 to 74 mph in 7 seconds. Saying a Toyota Camry has a "slightly weaker launch" than a Dodge Demon would be a more accurate statement.
