"I can't trust that your my family". 'I say it for my sanity' 'can i resist the dark abyss' - does he want to give up??? his career? or his relationship? is he tired? exhausted? Y'all please LISTEN to his lyrics and analyse them! He's clearly upset. He wants to talk to someone clearly, and wants to reach out to us, his fans. Maybe something is going on literally in his family, and is dividing them, or feels like people who he once trusted can't anymore. This could also be about his anxiety; the poor guy is uncertain about his future as a musician :( or something else, he is scared most likely. 'I prefer sooner than after late' 'I don't know which left I choose to take'. He doesn't know what to do and wants to face the problems NOW so he doesn't have to worry about them when they actually come. Perhaps he is anxious of potential 'calamity' in the future :( 'it's the same carol' could be really funny (and a memorable song), or the same facade society and people wear. Perhaps the real story is far more cynical, concerning...... is zayn really happy? :(

In the beginning he says “nostalgia What a funny feeling I feel depleted” which I think he’s talking about reminiscing about the 1D days or possibly those years in general and how he feels deprived of something that he should have experienced, gotten, or felt that he didn’t during those times. Or it could possibly mean that he feel tired of feeling that he’s felt and trying to reveal to his fans (possibly his sexuality) and how he feels deprived of the ability to express them. He goes on to say “I rap this for my sanity Whatever the calamity I did this for myself” meaning he’s doing his music career for to keep him sane. And that whenever the conflict comes regarding his music or something to do with him he’ll know that he did it for himself. “I prefer speaking in analogies” the things that he say in this song or others might have a deeper meaning rather than literal and should be looked at that way. “I've had enough of all this wet. And I can't trust that you're my family” could be talking about the “relationship” with GiGi Hadid or could be talking about tears and how he’s had enough tears from a certain person and he can no longer trust them. “The brain-dead that I never miss. My brain lives with the cannabis” which I think has something to do with the feeling of depression which I think he so goes on to talk about. “Can I resist the dark abyss? Leave a mark on this with no start, just exist. My mind's in a prism shape. And in times like prison state” and how smoking might help him with dealing with that. Zayn talks about how he feels like there’s no right wait to feel lately and there’s no possibility of a bright side if his perspective and feelings are not being taken into consideration. “I seen actors after BAFTAs be more straight” now this confused me because I didn’t know if it was talking about sexuality or not because a lot of people are forced to be closeted in the music industry because being straight is, “better for business” he also says that the people he sees are doing the same things trying to do so much at once when they have, time? “They're trying to fix when it's long gone, don't bother. There's no other, the thought shudders” could be talking about sexuality and how people feel the need to “fix” him and make him straight and he’s like that part of him is long gone so their’s no point in trying. Or it could mean how people constantly so him to go back to 1D with better management but that part of him may be long gone so people should just stop because the possibility of that happening is zero. He closes it by talking about a possible love interest and how he might want to settle down with them but the calmness of life is the fate to something bad happening so they’re continued to be pushed apart. And so years pass and he knows that he can’t go back so he just sits and watches his life go by He ends it by saying no one is listening to what he’s saying and that we’re sleeping on everything he does.

Yes, he's really screaming in this album, he's been trying to in for an example "Scripted" and "Lucozade". And in the official mv to "It's you". My thoughts about the lines you cited are: He says "there are rumors we have to face. He's ready to face these rumors now and it's better to do it before it's too late. He goes on to mention actors being gay, who's been forced to hide it, by demands from their managements. The actors have tried to correct this, a.k.a come out as gay, many years after, but it's been hard, so there's no point in doing it later "don't bother". They have to live with all their lie and most certain suffered a lot. I believe he's saying that this is happening in the music industry as well. I feel his management is doing the very same to him.

I'm not sure he has to either confirm nor deny his real sexuality to anyone, he's exposing himself in the songs. When people reveals the truth about what's behind the lyrics and the lines in the comics, everyone will understand who his lover is. ❤️ (I already know who he is). It is clear from Zayn’s choices to call the album “Nobody is listening" and to start it with a spoken word that Zayn wants people to analyze his lyrics and find out some sort of truth about him. Though not everything he is saying is clear to me, there are some definite conclusions that can be drawn using supporting lyrics from other songs of his as well. Regarding: “There are rumours WE have to face, I prefer sooner than after late, I’ve seen actors after BAFTAs be more straight" Some people are confused by the analogy Z uses, but essentially what he is saying is that he and another person (or persons) are not being honest, straightforward or convincing. See also: • “I’ve been lying to the liars, lying with the liars, every night" • “Got to keep it on the d-low" • Depictions of hiding and sneaking around in DTD, Entertainer, Let me MVs. Zayn says he wants to acknowledge rumours about him and one or multiple others - now what rumours do we know surround him? I’ll leave that for you to consider. “Which life should I choose to take?” He has a choice to take one of two paths • “What will I leave behind me, where will I choose to go?” • Another link between calamity and river road: “there’s no light if my view is at stake” & “I know I will see the sun again”. RR is confusing but I feel it is partly a song Zayn wrote to comfort himself with regards to taking a big leap, it talks about not being able to control all the outcomes. He’s telling himself to follow the river’s road i.e., let go, follow the current, see where it takes you. Regarding: “I want to bed you but sleep is death’s cousin" Zayn clearly states what it’s all about in this lyric. He wants to be with someone but can’t, because he’s scared of taking a risk for even a moment. He then says as a result of this fear, two weeks away from this person became two dozen, nearly a year. I conclude that the choice he is considering and the rumours he wants to face involve a lover who he is estranged from and it’s this estrangement that is driving the decision • “Are you ready because I’m ready to let go" “any minute we might fall" - the distance is killing the relationship. • “A digital physical connection” “Baby won’t you give it up, don’t wanna stop at words" i.e. I want to be with you physically. • Satisfaction: “life is always in the way" “we can’t get no satisfaction alone" • “The last time that I touched you, you could save it" clearly Zayn’s lover cheated because of the struggle of being long distance • Fingers, which was written in London in August 2018 (note he was there with Gigi): “I know you’re finding it hard to keep restrained" “tell me where you are b, I can come and love ya" “years that pass by can’t press no rewind” • Zayn has been in this situation for years, he feels he’s wasted time. The lover is someone he has had a long history with • He references I Won't Mind, talks about coming from nothing and now looking at the perfect view, sneaking out from a parent's house. • Fingers: “you’ve got different things replacing OLD feelings that you felt" So, this all begs the question - why is Zayn so scared to go live his life with this person and reveal all? In my view it’s because his lover is a male. I won’t add much to substantiate this, I think it’s quite a logical inference. • Re-listen to IWM, think about it. Think about why Zayn chose to call back to it in tightrope and why after the lyrics “sitting with my legs across your torso". I Could probably add a lot more but I think this is enough - just wanted to help Zayn out. He wants people to get it. However, he need to realize most fans do not want to come across as conspiracy theorists. Fans want to believe what they are being presented with and since Zayn plays into the lies, and admits that, he can’t blame fans for buying into them.
