We’re so lucky to have access to these modern photography tools. Looking forward to your Z9 thoughts & observations! 🙂👏🏻

  • Unlike others, I don't care about a comparison between this and a A1 or a R3/R5, there are enough of those videos out there already and they are all great cameras. I think if you have invested glass in any of those brands there is no compelling reason to switch at this point in time. The camera is just a tool, it's what you do with it that matters, does it help you tell the story you want to tell. Look forward to seeing what you do with it with the 500PF, I will be in that club shortly myself and look forward to trying out that combo. Happy shooting and have fun.

  • Should be the perfect all day walk around combo, but having owned the 500pf it's not that light and with the built in grip of the Z9 I can see some beef still required ! Still if its fast and sharp should be very useful my 500pf wasn't good in low light though ? Look forward to your review Mark ! But on initial impression I won't be switching back to Nikon from Sony !

    • The z9 is big and heavy! Unnecessarily so in my opinion.

  • I received my Z9 copy last week. And the first results were not bad but also not outstanding compared to the A1. I am fighting more with some inconsistences here, mainly with Autofocus with F lenses with integrated VR, e.g., my Nikkor 600mm 4.0 FL. When I trigger the shutter, the autofocus point is "jumping" a bit. I get it, it is related to the movement of the lens elements inside the lens. And you can party fix it by switching VR into Sport Mode. But it is really annoying, it was there with DSLRs already but more obvious with the Z9 in my opinion. Ah, there could be more to be added. So it is a mixed bag right now. Definitely I prefer the A1 for critical situations right now, it is more mature system, more reliable, looks like the Z9 requires some more firmware updates. The Z9 is also a huge brick, like out of a different time.

  • From the point of view of market share, which has plummeted, Nikon should have come out with the same sensor in a 1.3 lb camera with competitive autofocus to match the Sonys at the same old $3500. Relatively few people will buy any $5500 camera or wish to carry around a 3 lb tub of lard.
