why not reball and solder it to the original key fob ? why use donor ?
maybe for efficiency, you regall the chip resolder it and surprise! still doesn't work because some other issue. you take a working fob and solder the chip on it to rule out any other issue and to avoid having to put thermal strain on the chip, because if you make too many thermal cycles it might break.
original one seems to have ripped traces where chip seats.
I guess if something else is wrong with the board then putting the firmware chip on a different known good donor board is more likely to fix it.
why not just buy a new fob? they are about 30 online

I'm a locksmith. I think the clients keyfob is a PROXimity type (Push button start) . That's why it's different. The other ones are plain ones.
yeah the original key resembles a xhorse FBS3 keyless go key. If he gets ahold of an FBS4 i don't think he will have much luck fixing it.
@@jav261FSB4 transfer the bga chip at the top to another matching board and it works fine... done it many times.

I believe that original key with the coil is for "keyless go" for cars with push to start, automatically locking unlocking door handles. For some modles, mercedes doesn't offer keyless go replacements. End of life. You should be charging a premium for keyless go as it is a rare Option on early models.of those 500 donor fobs, you may only have a dozen with keyless go.

Original Fob may still work, but I want to give the customer a Fob that I know is 100% working so he doesn't end up mailing that Fob back as non functional

good job thank you very much , the big white coil indicate that this fob is a mercedes keyless go without it the customer will not be able to use the pushstart button he will be forced to insert key ditectly to the EIS in order to turn ignition on .

I am interested in those too. In a past video he revealed it costs around $350 ... Alex is looking for a supplier so he can sell hot tweezers from his store ... just takes time. I am waiting too.
If you reball the chip with regular solder without a stencil does that work? Or is it just a pain without a stencil that would cause tons of bridges?
The key with the white coil is a keyless go key. The keys with out the white coil are not keylessgo aka prox
I have been binge watching your videos. Can you explain when and why you need to reball? There are some chips that you take directly from one board to another.
That's a lot of donor FOB's. I've been meaning to ask you where do you get all these donor parts?

Alex your customer's key is smart key fob (Proximity) key. That's the one with a start/stop button. The ones you have are completely different keys.
What temp do you use for wicking? My wick never seems to want to pick up solder.
Get some solder on the tip, helps me.

Maybe matching serial numbers, model numbers to find interchangeable parts
