Full nut and bolt restoration of a 1978 GL1000 Goldwing
Nice. I bought a new 1978 Goldwing like this with the same color I added a color matched Windjammer fairing. The maroon seemed darker than this but hey that was 48 years ago. What an awesome ride. I rode chain drive for years and It took a little to get used to the drive shaft in corners. They said to accelerate through the corners and that will keep it from trying to fishtail.

This had the windjammer fairing on it but I decided to put it back to standard.

I worked in a Honda shop when the Wing first came out. It was a sensation. The sales guys used to start them up, balance a nickel on the cam chain cover, and rev them up to 3,000 rpm and the coin would just sit there. Try THAT with a Harley - or any bike from the 70s for that matter!

Stunning restortion! Having done one of these myself, I don't even know where you start to find the parts you did. I had a LOT of trouble sourcing just about everything, especially NOS. A couple of things I noted: Why are the bars sitting so far forward? Secondly, do you have the grab bar for the back? If not, I have a very nice extra. Too bad you don't have the Honda logo on the rear seat.
@SinnerSince19622 жыл бұрын

AMAZING WORK!
Mark! Wow!
Wow what a lovely bike
Wow 😍😍😍 absolutely stunning. That's better than the day it came out of the factory!! Credit to you sir, your attention to detail is commendable.
We bought a new one, in these in the same colour and, after installing SW air shocks , on the rear, modified forks, for air and after installing a compressor under the top of, plus a dual air gauge and controller, it was the nicest bike we ever owned. Fitted an Adelaide built full touring fairing and panniers. Ride it on our honeymoon,, from Melbourne up through the Snowy Mts.and all around northern Victoria!
I bet that was amazing 😍
Now that is a thing of beauty well done
Thank you 😊
Absolutely stunning results
Nice to see it getting lots of love 😊
So beautiful 🤩 love to have one like this ❤
I had a '78 during college in the late 90's and a few years after. Best looking model year IMO. It was basically given to me by my uncle who was the original purchaser. Royal blue with gold pin stripes, but I sure do like the maroon and gold. Best experiences motorcycling on that beast. 70's nostalgia and great comfort.
The thing I dont like about the 78 is the wheels. I think the K1/2 spoke wheels are much nicer.
fine piece of machine! Awesome work on the restoration!
Thank you. Really pleased how it came out. 😀
Watching this Restoration on this video for this Mighty Honda Goldwing GL 1000 , makes my heart beat faster. I find it so Fascinating and with admiration how you Restore this Machine. Thank You for Sharing my Friend. Greetings,,,,Walter.
Hi Walter, Thank you for your comment. It really does make all the hard work worthwhile seeing all the great feedback for this lovely old bike 😊
@@MarkReynoldsRestorations Hi Mark. Your welcome ! My Great Compliment for you Restauration with the Beautiful Honda Goldwing. I speak you later. Greetz , Walter
Great job, fabulous restoration!
Fantastic. Great work!
Very beautyful! Great Job!
Wow, what a nice job. This isn’t their first rodeo for sure. I love to see competence at work like this. Congratulations!
Thank you. It makes all the hard work worthwhile seeing comments like this. 😊
Great jop congratulations you the best
Ahh the good old '70's! I had the classic XS750 Triple cylinder shaft drive Yamaha touring bike in back in 1976! Then my neighbor across the street came home with a 1978 Honda Goldwing! He wouldn't trade it for mine Lol!
Great era and great bikes 🙂
I had a KZ900 in the late 70s and a friend of mine had one of these. He let me ride it one day and I couldn't believe how smooth it was and surprisingly fast to boot. Nice job bringing her back to life.
For such a big heavy bike, they really do ride well. I think it's down to the boxer engine design and low centre of gravity
@@MarkReynoldsRestorations I agree and it was really impressive. It didn't feel heavy at all.
I have a '77 GL 1000That I restored about a decade ago, love the bike. I've been planning to go through it again since I have to replace the stator anyway.
More than wonderful work ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Outstanding work ... looks better than new.
Nice job guys, beautiful.👍
GREAT JOB, BEAUTIFUL MOTORCYCLE
Wow! My hat is off to you, what an incredible job 👌
Thank you 😁. It makes all the hard work worthwhile seeing feedback like this.
Great job .. beautiful result .
beautiful video and great work, but the magical side of this restoration is missing, namely the first start which highlights the rebirth of this motorcycle!
I posted a video of the first road test. My latest build I learnt from the comments and added the first start.
Beautiful Goldwing as well.!!!
I just had one of these given to me that will need some work. I was excited to get to work on it until I saw the amazing job you did! LOL! Should be fun.
It's very satisfying seeing the transformation. The key is patience, you will have set backs, just take your time and don't give up. Stay focused on the end result. It's more than worth it in the end.
Outstanding, absolutely love it 🤙
Excelente trabajo! Preciosa restauración!! Chapó 🦯🎩
Grazie
Absolutely outstanding...Fantastic video...
Like e inscrito do Brasil
Respekt !
Great job.
A great bike to restore 👏👏👏
This was an awesome restoration I'm looking at getting a 77 model and would like to do something along this line and I'm in Texas thank you God bless
Good luck. I had great fun doing this one.
fantastic work just brilliant
Thank you 😊
I always road my 57 HD flh last rigid. My buddies wanted to ride to Sturgis. I found an old gold wing Aspencade. I road out and back no problems. Sold it for twice as much as I paid 10years later.
Splendide travail, bravo 👍
A great bike rode one a few times it was a friends
They are lovely to ride. They have a real low centre of gravity that makes them really easy to ride.
Excelente resultado. Parabéns
gracias 😊
Definitely the best looking wing there ever was, and the burgundy colour was so right, but the wire wheels were better
I do prefer the K2 wire wheels.
Big work. Thank-s.
Magnificent job. I see you fitted a Motad. Such a pity they closed.
I wanted to keep it original and use OEM exhausts but they were to far gone. I looked everywhere for original ones but without any luck. The Motad were the next best thing.
What a great, superb job!
Thank you 😊
Nice motorcycle😍👍
Remenber, one good idea could be to prove after the restauration. I like see it.
Check out the video i posted of the road test.
Well done
Terrific Job
I really appreciate your skill and hard work on that wonderful bike! Looks amazing. Would you have any advice for someone looking to purchase a GL-1000? Thank you for sharing
Thanks for your feedback, its much appreciated. As for advice I'd say look out for a bike thats original as possible. Lots of these bikes have been modified over the years and original parts are missing. Original parts can be hard to find.
Que buen trabajo. impecable.
Absolutely fantastic job. Very well done. Let me know if you ever wish to part with her. Just one more detail to finish the job.....the left hand cylinder head Honda badge. ;)
Well spotted. There were a few bits I was waiting for before finishing the final video. The front indicators, rear grab rail and the badges. instagram.com/p/CPRKFYPnzXm/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Glad someone else mentioned that too. Such a beautiful restoration that the missing logo plate stood out like a huge zit on a supermodel. 😂
Just stuff ------ lay up treasures in heaven
Awesome work. Is this a hobby or a profession. The frame and chrome work looked great. A video on that would be cool. 👍🤟
It's just a hobby. I used to work in the classic car restoration trade but haven't done it for a living for over 10 years now. These are just little projects I'm doing at home in my garage on weekends.

Thank.you 🙂
beautiful
Fabulous I wish I had your skills
Thanks, great to see the appreciation for the effort involved to bring these bikes back to life. Makes it all worthwhile 😁
Mantap bosku ❤️
Stunning restortion! Having done one of these myself, I don't even know where you start to find the parts you did. I had a LOT of trouble sourcing just about everything, especially NOS. A couple of things I noted: Why are the bars sitting so far forward? Secondly, do you have the grab bar for the back? If not, I have a very nice extra. Too bad you don't have the Honda logo on the rear seat.
Bryan, the bike is a USA spec with the longer bars so that might explain why they look further forward. The seat unfortunately i had issues sourcing so its an aftermarket one.
I'm still trying to source a rear grab rail.
@@MarkReynoldsRestorations I have one.
@@SinnerSince1962 are you in the UK?
@@MarkReynoldsRestorations No, in the US, the land of botched withdrawals and horrible drone strikes.
Tuyệt pham❤❤❤
So awesome
Brilliant job, I own a burgundy 78 here in Australia, hope t0 get it back on the road soon (leaking head gasket). We bought it back from a bloke we sold it to about 10yrs ago. Also managed to recently find a NOS set of original mufflers as it currently runs the same pipes you have on yours. Most beautifully balanced bikes, thanks for giving this one a new life.
Great find to get thoee NOS mufflers. Couldn't find any for this one so had no choice but to use aftermarket ones.
Mate where did you find the mufflers?
@@grahamdowdell4356 Got lucky on Ebay, not much ever comes up for sale for 78 models here in Aus so to find these I couldn't pass.
@@MarkReynoldsRestorations Rare as hens teeth mate but the pipes you chose still look the part. Did you see the 78 that recently sold at Mecum for $12.5k? Super under appreciated model which I think is juts starting to come into it's own.
