I spent hours trying to find the best method for Pigman Joe to spawn in and play a Poker Game. After multiple replays of chapter two I managed to have him spawn in twice. Here are the perquisites you need to complete before Joe will start appearing in saloons:
Chapter 2 (Pigman):
1. Complete "Bard's Bargain" which is Joe's story quest, this is given to you after the Fighting Pit fight. This involves lifting Joe's curse by killing a wraith in a local mine. Once complete he'll become a friend for life.
2. Continue along the main story line, burning all three soul tree roots. Now you'll have to return to the Soul Tree. When interacting with the Soul Tree you'll be given two options. Make sure you give the Pigmen their souls back (the good option).
3. Make sure Joe hasn't died. Also don't worry if you've accidently recruited him to your posse! We'll fix this in Chapter 3 as the Protector.
Chapter 3 (Protector):
Complete the opening story quest until you can access the world map again. Now hover over Pigman Joe's Hideout:
a. If he's showing as a mercenary to hire, head over to his camp asap. Recruit him into your posse and then dismiss him. This should make him vanish from his Hideout and return into the world as an NPC.
b. If he's not showing as a mercenary then bingo, you don't need to do anything more!
I spent hours at this point trying to force Joe to spawn at one of the larger towns that have Saloons. Eventually I gave up and just started playing the game normally - checking the Saloons every time I passed them. Until eventually I saw Joe appear in "Quickbend" and then in "Grackle" on a second (different) perquisite test. Joe spawning is totally random and I don't believe he can be forced to appear. He simply becomes an additional poker player that can spawn. As long as you complete the tasks above he'll eventually appear, even if you had recruited and dismissed him from your posse!
i have done all of this, except i haven't seen ANYONE playing poker, let alone Joe
I also spent waaayyyy too much time trying to get Joe to spawn in a saloon. Not only did he not spawn once, no other poker players spawned at all either. I ended up reloading a save I made at the beginning of Chapter 3... after killing the guy in the intro mission but before turning the mission in, I fast-traveled between towns and eventually found Joe on the fifth or sixth try.
In case anyone else is having difficulty, I did this exact thing on PS5. I made sure Joe wasnt showing on the map (though he was technically recruitable) and proceeded to play Ch. 3. My path is: Start, camp, sleep, Fort Glen, talk to Mary Ann, Witchhazel Hill to sell things, Cedar Flats, recruit Quigley, sell things again, Horne. Joe was in the saloon in Horne. DONE. I feel like having roughly ~$200 makes it better for spawning poker. Could be superstition. Thank you for the help!!

In chapter 3, joe is in his hideout, but isn’t recruitable. I have met all prerequisites. I don’t know what else to do.. what a shitty trophy

I spent hours on various characters looking for him. Decided to start over from the end of the pigman story. Again killed the wraith, freed the souls and hired Joe just in case before finishing the chapter. At the start of the protector story, right after talking in Fort Glen I go pick up the previous companion to get the horse back and check on Joe at his camp. He was there. Then I head to the city and the first inn he is playing cards. Seems like it is what other people are saying as well. So choose protector, start of the chapter 3, he'll be in the first inn if the conditions were met in ch 2.
Did you speak to Joe when you was there?
@@timol8616 I can no longer recall, but I think I did. The important part was to get him at the very beginning of the chapter instead of trying to get lucky later in the campaign by visiting a town over and over.
@@Celahir Yeah thanks! I did Not speak with Joe at His Camp and he was not recruitable. At the beginning of ch3 i visited Grackle immediately and he was there.
Okay So I decided to « not save the pig souls » in chap 2 and you are telling me that this choice will lock the trophy??? Actually joe is in his hideout talking about snowballs…shitty trophy…are they serious ???
So Pigman Joe is at his house, but he isn’t recruitable? Am I screwed, or no?
Same thing for me, the only thing I can think of that I read in the guide is that you can fuck it up if you don't cure his rhyming curse at the end of chapter 2? Did you figure it out

He can also be found at home, but he is not reported as a mercenary. Can talk to him, but can't recruit. Recruiting is only possible in Cedar Flats. I already did it and then released it again. Doesn't help either. Travel to places with saloons and very rarely, if ever, is there another poker player there but not Joe. I also only have 4 places with a saloon (Grackle, Quickbend, Last Post and Libby). I traveled all over the map, but didn't uncover any other saloons. I'm already in Chapter 4 and don't want anything there either. Bugged somehow!?
for anyone who can't recruit Joe: There's a random encounter where Joe duels another pig. You have to help Joe and then you can recruit him after the fight. If you refuse, he goes back to his swamp and then you can recruit him there. I declined, immediately approached him again and then went to the swamp and he's no longer there. Encountering Joe was my 3rd event playing as a protector. After checking to see if Joe was there in the swamp, I immediately went to grackle and Joe was there. I didn't have enough money (you need 50 gold in your pocket) so I saved, let time pass because it was night, sold everything and then played poker against Joe. He won't leave town unless you do either. The rest was easy, I had to reload my safe once and then I won and got the trophy. Hope I could help someone.
Dam you are lucky. Did you save pigs souls in chapter 2 or not ? Because I made the choice to let the souls died and now joe is only at his hideout….
