The people knew it was toxic. I was a new resident in a Maine town in 2000. I called The selectman ( who turned out to be one of those farmer's useing the sludge), to find out what the big flap was about. I was told since I was new, I should keep my nose out of it.

A few years ago some guys from County Ag came by saying that if we had any citrus trees in our backyard that they needed to spray for some invasive bug. I asked them if I had a choice and they said yes. So I told them not to spray and they didn’t. Second time they came around I politely told them I didn’t want them spraying and they kindly said ok and left. Sometimes we think they have more power than they actually have.

Learn to grow a garden. Years ago I was out of work and fed a family of four with a backyard garden (20x40 feet). It was easier than you might think as I made everyone work the garden daily. Our neighbors have been collecting “rent” from sludge being spread on the fields that has surrounded us on three of four sides for at least 20 years now. We protested this being forced upon us while our neighbors claimed they were “doing the city a favor” while also being paid per acre spread upon. Greed doesn’t only belong to big corporations.

I am from western Maine. The sludge program had existed since several decades ago. I believe one of the first of the farmers to participate in this program was in Oxford County. I also believe that someone had determined many years ago that there was a problem with the pollution of the soil from the sludge. So why has this not been stopped sooner? Please inform me. Thanks.
I run a small drinking water system. Have to test quarterly for these chemicals. The hoops and drama I have to deal with is unbelievable. Also as a farmer, all the regulations are making staying in business difficult.
Hopefully, the farmers will protest this. Soon, we won't be able to feed ourselves and as they continue to break down the supply chain, we won't have access to anything.

You can literally just grow tobacco on it, to keep the land. Tobacco sucks up most heavy metals, pesticides, and even pbt's, aka, forever chemicals, on the land. The tobacco can then just be turned into coal & biogas, in order to destroy the chemicals through incineration. Heck, if you try and get a bit more octane out of it, you can use a bit of calcium carbide, to make it easier to spark in the piston & chamber, after running it through a filter made of the carbide, to add a small amount of acetylene to the mix, and, make it burn cleaner. And, you got it wrong; the forever chemicals don't come from florine, they come from adding acid to crude oil, to make plastic. To destroy it even faster, there's a process called " plastic liquification" , which turns the plastic back into a slightly crude gasoline, which, could be mixed with home ethanol fuel, and nitromethane fuel, to make it burn more evenly in the chamber. If you don't want the government to take you land, you gotta grow tobacco. It's the only way to clean the land.
In Ontario they recently went around to a bunch of farms and gave them 7 days to accept an offer for their farm or have it seized. 770 acres. For commercial use.

And I think that, although farmers might need some restrictions or guidelines to keep the food supply safe, they also need their farms. And we need our American farmers to do the wonderful job that they've been doing to keep us safely well-fed. I'd 100% rather eat naturally grown food than lab grown "meat." There is a farm in Michigan that had the exact same thing happen. Were told they could no longer sell their grazed cattle etc. Meanwhile conventional farms selling into the industrial food chain are allowed to carry on.

Plenty of people make their own compost. Some people get green waste from stores and left over food from restaurants and then mix it with leaves and used hay from barns. If you are doing a market garden on one part of your parcel and raising meat goats on the other, you have to lock up the goats at night. When you clean the barn, you pile the used straw or hay in a pile with the other waste, water in and it will compost slowly without turning. Then after 2 years, you put it on the market garden. It's really no extra work. Some people get green waste and thrown away food and put the chickens or pigs in the pile to turn it as the look for food. These plans work great if you have a large family to help, but if you don't, you can still easily make compost to enrich your pasture and personal garden. If you raise rabbits for pet food, you have tons of manure for composting. It's hard to find a processor for rabbits for human consumption, but people who want quality pet food, often will pay for rabbit.
