Rare Blue PSP Damaged by Repair Shop - Let's Fix It! I paid $80 for this blue PSP that a repair shop tried to repair by replacing the screen but they only succeeded in damaging it further. Initially the PSP won't even turn on and I found it wasn't put back together correctly. There were also things that needed to be fixed on the motherboard before I could bring this handheld back to life.

One of the many nice things about this channel is that you don't edit out any mistakes you make.
Your videos make me wanna try studying electronics and getting into repair.
DO IT!
don't. it's horrible lol i've been doing it for 11 years and as much as i love it i definitely hate it. it's not an expensive hobby is really all I can say about it. But it definitely can be especially if you want a microscope.
@@fuzzyturtlez8994 I fix stuff from time to time (although I didn't studied electronics), it can be really frustrating, it's definitely not for everyone.
@@fuzzyturtlez8994 same
@@fuzzyturtlez8994 I disagree I've been repairing electronics for about 10 years and it's a great learning experience. There's no cons about repairing electronics. Even if you aren't able to fix something, you still learn from it and have a better idea of how to go at the next thing you fix
It makes me feel really good to watch somebody who I feel is a professional at fixing game consoles and things like that who makes some of the same mistakes I would make. Gives me a push forward to not feeling like a failure when I do break something and see how to fix it. Thank you for what you do!
That's why I show those mistakes. Everybody makes them no matter how experienced they are.
Here is a handy tip. QUIT breaking things.
@@edwardmclaughlin719 if that was to happen, there wouldn’t be anything to fix! But yeah. I’m trying!
@@edwardmclaughlin719yeah we break stuff willingly and with intent. Thanks for reminding us
Well this connector wasn't meant to be opened once it was closed it seems. The plastic looks like it is made of thin hard candy.
That ribbon cable connector is a total pain. It's extremely fragile. I did the exact same mistake when reassembling my old PSP. Had to buy a new (used) one because I had no tools to fix it at the time. I kinda got "PTSD" from that and I'm constantly afraid to even disassemble a PSP anymore... Great video as always, Steve. I never get tired of your uploads. Keep up the great work!
true as much as i love to tinker psp , those little locks are so fragile @_@
@@phoenixdown1947 They really are
I think you could just solder it back together, probably I guess, or just resort to absolutely carefully prob with like some precise tool to take off the ribbon cables and hope they are not broken then absolutely carefully with a precise tool cut off the old ribbon cable things on the new display then solder the totally working ones onto it
@@dogeinator6164 Unfortunately I had no way of fixing it at the time. All I had was a screwdriver and nothing else. Besides the damage was on the board connector itself. I tried with another screen I had laying around but there was no saving that one. Well, at least not with the tools at my disposal hahah
The series 3000, a real nightmare, I work on these consoles since 7 years ago and still are a nightmare, what a great repair Steve!
Dude, those little locking tabs for the screens smaller ribbon cables are so delicate. I had a ton of trouble with those.
Yes! Normally I can work with them pretty well but this one got me good!
I really enjoy watching videos where the technician really takes care to, well, for one, repair it the right way, but putting it back together EXACTLY as it was originally designed. No missing screws or broken parts, connectors etc just rigged back together instead of fixing it correctly. Thanks Steve, a pleasure to watch your videos.
The Blue PSP was also sold here in New Zealand and Australia. Good to see the insides of the PSP, I have one myself and It's great. Thanks Steve 😄
For the second part. You can create a shim out of thin plastic and wedge it in to create presure against pins. Must be exact width as the ribbon cable. It must be very thin plastic just enough to shim in. And create a wedge and push ribbon toward pins, it works very well when locking tabs get broken off
Waiting for my soldering/hot air station to arrive and then I'm going to start trying to teach myself how to do repairs. I have plenty of dead Alienware laptop boards to play with. Watching your vids has inspired me to finally give it a go.
Your videos are like ASMR videos. I love your content! Nothing like watching something being repaired. Even if we aren't doing it, there's definitely satisfaction in watching you work! Added bonus is when it's fixed 😊
Just bought a junked PSP on ebay for my first handheld repair, love watching your vids for inspiration!
@TronicsFix I love it when you fix something until it's broken. Or just flat-out break something, lol. Makes for a good long video!
I wonder if the repair shop still charged the previous owner to mess the psp up more?
I don’t think I got that part of the story. I’m curious too.
You would hope not and that they would do the right thing but you never know unfortunately. Guess it depends on the store and who they dealt with. I’ve never dealt with a repair shop but From watching the channel it seems like it can be very hit or miss. On if they’re going to be honest or not and if they’re even able to do a repair at all.
My guess is you're paying for labor not guarentees. So probably. Just a guess.
You are thinking of NortridgeFix
That’s a good question for a screwup they did 🧐🧐🧐
That blue and silver looks real nice. I miss the days before everything became a black or white rectangle...
As usual there is a phenomenal video production presenting an above average repair by a likeable, affable guy that knows his stuff.... Knowing how the algorithm works and working a target audience with great vids makes for a nice channel with good content. Thanks for the time and effort (and rewards to you for doing the best job evah) that these vids taken man.
Your videos are the reason I bought IFIXIT tool kits for myself and both of my sons. Very entertaining and informative!
That's awesome! They're the best!
@@Tronicsfix Corsair, the PC product manufacturer has just released a Repair Kit... will it be as good as Ifixit? to test ;)
My gosh what a beauty!!!! As always you are the GOAT STEVE! Say hello to Mrs. TronicsFix, need her in another video soon 😌
Nice job Steve! Most people wouldn't have the patience to work on parts that tiny. You must have quite the collection of repaired devices that you have kept or are trying to resell.
That LCD connector is no joke! Great job!
Yeah, I should have been more careful with it but the repair turned out pretty good.
@@Tronicsfix no worries man, I would've done the same thing. You over redeemed yourself haha
Awesome work as always bummer that second piece broke but your good at what you do
Steve: I hope it wasn't just a ribbon cable issue, else this will be a short.... Also Steve - breaks the ribbon cable connector .... Careful what you wish for Steve 😁
Good work Steve. Patience of a saint!
Thanks 👍
The video i was waiting for soo long. Ready to repair that old psp with a broken screen.
Excellent work bud. Good job rescuing nostalgia bud. 🍻
15 years ago, I remember gluing the connection together for a friend. That connector is brittle
Hi Steve! First, love the channel and thank you for everything you do. My wife and I are mesmerized by every episode. I personally would love to see your collection, I think that would make a great video. I have no doubt you have a crazy amount of items that you cherish, which would be very cool. But I'd also love to see the "behind the scenes" with all the other "junk". In one of the videos on Restorish, there was a glimpse, but I'd love to see it all! Anyway, just my 0.02 . . . keep up the great work!
8:45 A soldering hot tweezers may be useful in this case.
your videos are awesome, you are awesome. you inspired me. I had no idea, now I'm repairing a lot of things. Greetings from Germany ❤
I was almost ready to yell that's mine. My blue psp got stolen but since it was already broken I didn't mind but I really wanted to fix it myself, then I saw this and was super excited thinking my psp somehow made its way to the internet but sadly no.
Keep up the great work TronicsFix :)
Nicely done Steve!
This is a beautiful system. Well done!
So glad you do the Due Diligence. Thanks to You for the knowledge
Abssolutely amazing pristine work mate, love your videos and your commitment to fixing items that would usually see the scrap heep. Keep up the great work!!!.
Nice fix i love the colour!
Awesome Video TronicsFix Awesome Repair TronicsFix🙂
I've been on a PSP rabbit hole today and I'm glad I got to this party early!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Nice! Glad you stopped by. PSP's are pretty cool handhelds!
@@Tronicsfix Definitely, didn't own one growing up but my cousin did have one. It literally blew my 10 year old brain out the back of my head when I saw it can run God of War. Now that I'm an adult I've got a PS Vita 1000, got a CFW in it and it can play everything the little kid in me wanted all those years, including PSP and PS1 games. This is my most prized possession right now. ❤️
and oh btw I've been coming back to your channel to watch repair videos but always forgot to sub. Well now I'm not forgetting!
I noticed you installed the front plate wrongly. You can see on the right side of the console that a plastic guide is sticking out. It was supposed to be on the inside, near the accent piece. Everything else was great!
I actually had a blue one here in the States. They were a Madden 09 PSP bundle. I sold it on ebay to a girl for $135 a very long time ago, over 10 years ago
77,000 view in 12 hours... Awesome video, awesome work Steve for what you doing your experience fix anything to resell is smart business
That color is gorgious. Looks like a show car paint job. Someone is gonna be real happy to own that if you sell it.
My PTSD flared up when the ribbon cable connector broke. I hate working on super tiny components.
Awesome video, now i wanna tinker on my old psp and try fix it. Thanks man.
This Edition was also able to buy in Europe. Nice vid! Greetings from Germany!
Sweet vid. Just got myself a 3000 this year.
Good stuff man looking for the next one 😊😊😊😊😊
I *just* did an IPS display replacement on my PSP 1000, and the ribbon cable clasp did exactly what yours did, right before it snapped in half. I ended up adding some more material between the screen and the PCB to keep the ribbon cable against the pins. It works, but I'm praying I never need to open it up again, in my naivety.
Uh, that reminds me of the PSP repair I did a few months ago. Screen didn't work correctly, ordered a new screen, that came broken (physically broken) and the shop didn't want to replace or refund it ("can't you try to install it and see if it works?" "it is cracked, dammit!"). Ordered a second screen from a different seller (but obviously from the same factory), and while this screen works (in the sense you get the image on the screen) there's a visible vertical line. But I don't have the nerves to spend money on another screen right now.
Screens can be hard to buy because of this.
Buy through somewhere with buyer protection, if they sell it as new, then you are entitled to a refund if it ends up broken. Still, really sucks though... Hate places like that.
Amazing vid, wondering if you have ever repaired a DJ Hero dongle, me and a lot of people would love to see it, as they are very scarce nowadays and repairing them would make a lot of people happy. Thanks 😊
I have not
it's always a worry when you check something and get one result, and then later check it again and get a different result! Makes it much trickier to fix things 😬
Nice work on this one
That's a beautiful console out there !
This is a 3004 vibrant blue model released in Europe (04 means EU) which makes it rare in other areas. I got this same model in its 9.5/10 pristine condition for $60. I was looking for disassembly videos so I can replace it with transparent shell. I guess i'll just buy a protective case to preserve the original blue shell. The Madden variant released in the US is metallic blue. Great video as always. 👍
Decreasing entropy since 2015 and going strong!
Beautiful console.. almost broken by a "repair shop". Glad you saved it.
Great video always informative & entertaining! Ever, fix a STEAM link?
Asks for a longer video and wish is granted. 😂
I gotta a 1000 Japanese blue model that I ordered from Japan I couple of years ago. I love it for it feels very resistant and cumbersome like a tank . It feels very premium too compared to the ones that came after it .😊
Great video. I do have to say, you breaking the connector made for a more interesting fix.
Great Video Steve
Thanks 👍
Yes! A Psp repair video!! I have a Black model 1001 b psp system that wont charge a battery; and wont turn on without a battery and connected to the power cable. Might you know what my issue is?? 🤔 Love your videos, Bro! Keep up the outstanding work 👏😎
wow small fuse that amazing Sir
just started watching and its such a pretty psp!!!! o my gosh i hope you are able to fix it!!!! i almost want to skip to the end to see!!! but i wont!! haha
Lol...don't skip! Yes, this a really nice looking PSP!
Who'd think solder is a suitable replacement for a fuse? If a repair shop actually done this, it's a serious concern to me.
Right, everyone knows that the proper replacement for a fuse is a bodge wire!
I use study electronics thing …but I work industrial engineering…see your video make me wanna leaning again electronica❤❤❤
Lovely blue PSP. 💙
The last time I needed to replace a fuse was on my refrigerator's PCB board. Or, more like solder a new fuse (same rating) in parallel with the blown fuse since the usual "fix" is to replace the PCB board ($200+).
Vibrant/Carnival blue. A moderately common Japanese color I have one. (Edit, I didn’t even know there was an American version.)
Can you make more videos fixing and selling with the profits? I love that ones!
We all know you tested it before putting it all together :P Great repair video.
Your video make me want to take everything apart, but knowing myself, I would break everything with a single touch.. Great videos tho! I have a broken PsP too, the back lid - disk reader broke, but I never get to try and fix it myself, I'm scared to touch it
Great video..I miss my psp
PSP's are great!
@@Tronicsfix I so want another one lol
When these connector taps get lose that hell man. Been there and its also not eassy to resolder a new one because its a long connector with many legs that is also from plastic.
Hey Steve! Love your channel. Quick question, if my TV stops loading movies, what part would I need to replace? It's a Samsung.
The day I firgured out how to put pron on this was a hell of a day. Back before smartphones. I took it everywhere I went lol
Thanks for sharing 👍
Love the vids ,your skills are amazing suprised u didn't just take the 1amp fuse off with iron rather than hot air gun as was always just gonna melt that plastic socket Also why would u fully screw back together without knowing if u fixed it
I see many time that the big "reveal" of whether the fix is working or not is done only after reassembling completely the device... but that is clearly not how it was done, you surely tested the fix before re-assembling the console (as you did while troubleshooting) - after so many fixes it would be a big gamble to fully reassemble the console w/o testing it. Why not showing the way it is ? It would not spoil the end and it would just be more realistic. Thanks for your great videos, I'm learning a lot!
I do that because the video gets significantly more views if I test it after I reassemble it. It makes a more satisfying video...according to the audience retention graph.
Steve fixing things until they’re broken again, lol.
Lol
Was a bit surprised you didn't solder the bit on the ribbon cable for the laser. Seems risky or is that risk overblown?
Nice work!! These things are hateful!
12:14 You wanted a longer video so now you got a longer video lol 😂 The PSP just wants us to learn and enjoy your repair videos longer 😂
I don't know in US, but I'm sure the vibrant blue one is also available in Europe, cause I have an identical one bought here in Italy.
We got mostly black ones because they refused to believe that the only people buying them were not just teenage boys.
yep, my cousin had a 3004 vibrant blue, we're from Italy
I EFFN HATE that ribbon cable lock for the screen! The amount of times has that turned a simple replacement job into me into a scrap project.
Psp and ps vita were truly beautiful consoles.
That's like my psp. Cheers from México.
Best system ever. If you know, you know. Really hope you can work your magic on this one because they are worth their weight in gold. Edit: HELL YEAH!! Now jailbreak that bad dog and put all the NES games on it!!!!
I never had it, but I've heard it can be pretty flexible if you soft-mod it
@@LagrangePoint0 I have had two and it's true. It's damn true. I bought a used PSP-1000 from GameStop and was fortunate enough to have a barely used one given to me to use as a backup in case the first on gave out. It finally did so recently I cracked the second one and holy smokes, is it way easier to do now. 👍
That plastic flap coming off of ribbon connectors is my biggest nightmare. I did that to my New 3DS XL and I had to get it sent off to a repair shop on eBay because I don’t have the experience to put a new connector on
I have that color too such a beauty console
Pretty psp. I have a white pearl psp I got from Canada. Twas a good deal.
Ooof the pain when that ribbon cable clip broke 😭
Not even gonna count how many of those little connector clips i've broken over the years with PSP's. Been fixing them for a hobby, tens if not hundred already. No matter how careful you are, those are fragile little btards and eventually it will happen with either the long screen ribbon connector, or the little backlight connector, or even with the one that connects power board etc. to motherboard itself. Usually you can jerry rig them somehow, but if that long black piece on screen connector cuts half, there's no way fixing it without replacing the whole thing.
8:03 what is the component right above the fuse they jumpered? Looks like capacitor but theres another lead at the side?
I'm not into sports at all. But back in the day when I saw the commercial for the blue Madden PSP I wanted it.
Don't blame you...these look so good!
The blue psp was sold in the US, it was packaged with one of the madden games
Wait, so was the cable at 4:30 connected or not? Was that the real problem with this one? Anyway, a great video as always
That was the analogue stick connector. I guess they forgot?
So will that 1A fuse need to be replaced with the correct 0.5A one at some point? Or will it be ok since it’s powering on fine?
It's always best to replace them with the same rating as they came with.
Lol. You always know it's been tested off camera when it gets put back together before testing to see if it's finally good. Just giving you grief Steve. Great job as always.
Ha, ha...I do test off camera sometimes but sometimes it's my first time testing (if I'm pretty sure it's fixed). If I test it before I assemble it then not as many people watch the reassembly. It seems to make for a more satisfying video that way.
Understandable. I’m guilty of that exact procedure myself.
That was awesome!
Glad you liked it!
