Renault Scenic E-Tech (2024) First Drive Review: The Unconventional Electric Crossover
The all-new Renault Scenic E-Tech defies easy categorization. Is it a minivan? An SUV? Renault simply calls it a "car" and leaves it up to buyers to decide what to make of the unconventional electric model. After spending some time behind the wheel, we can say one thing for certain - the Scenic E-Tech is an interesting alternative to more traditional offerings.
With quirky styling that blends SUV cues with MPV versatility, the Scenic has presence. The interior is equally unique, with recycled and sustainable materials used throughout. Renault worked with composer Jean-Michel Jarre on the sounds and graphics, giving the cabin a distinct ambiance. Ergonomics are good, with plenty of space for passengers front and rear.
The Scenic E-Tech comes in two battery sizes - 60 kWh and 87 kWh. The larger pack offers an impressive 379-mile range on the WLTP cycle, besting many rivals. Performance is decent if not thrilling, with 0-62 mph taking 7.9 seconds in the 87 kWh model. Top speed is 106 mph.
Where the Scenic surprised us most was its driving dynamics. Thanks to a low center of gravity and well-tuned chassis, this tall crossover handles surprisingly well on twisty roads. The quick steering ratio takes some acclimation but helps the Scenic feel nimble around town too. Ride quality was generally good, though rougher surfaces did induce some unwanted motions.
We also appreciated the Scenic's user-friendly tech features. The available massage function and extended screens during charging add luxury cues. Safety is another strong suit, with Renault packing their latest driver aids into the Scenic.

The spacious interior, long range, and unexpected driving verve make it a compelling family hauler. It may not fit neatly into an established segment, but sometimes the unconventional path is the right one to take.
